I bought mine in July 2022 for about £25, and there were no glue marks, and it ran perfectly like yours. However, the interior detailing isn't very visible because it's moulded in clear plastic. So after my purchase, I spent a couple of days detailing it up so the interior would be the right colour, as well as the wooden veranda floor and the white lamp irons and step edges.

Given how big an impact a few stray glue marks can have, I'm surprised the big manufacturers haven't looked into alternate adhesives. Some of them may come with worker health and safety concerns, which is fair enough, but CA isn't exactly fun to use to begin with. After a few bad experiences with plastic cement and CA glue, I now use plain white glue almost exclusively to attach detail parts, at least on models already painted. It requires more patience, but it's very forgiving and possible to do again if it does break. It also dries clear and has an extremely good price compared to other glues

I was actually talking to Simon Kohler on Hornby's stand when the HM stand 10 feet away put my name out over the PA to go over there. Lets see if I win anything this year, hehe As to the build quality it's definitely the factory throwing them along the production line. Not allowing time to remove excess glue. Don't think I've ever seen a BR blue brake van like that, it looks wrong, especially the all yellow ends. That said, it does look like quite a nice model. With regards to the glue marks, maybe Hornby were attempting to create some weathering haha. Nice review as always. Maybe this is a way Hornby can bring in some easy revenue by re-releasing rolling stock with different liveries at a "value" price.

Try a cotton bud with a small amount of IPA to wipe away the glue mist. Don't rub hard or long on the paint as it will start to come off, but depending on the glue Hornby used misting can come off. Actual glue stains (rather than the drying mist) probably won't come off so the window fingerprint is most likely there to stay. That said, a coating of clear gloss can improve the windows with glue by reducing the effect.

Hey Sam, I thought of an idea for an alternate coupling style you could use with your era 1 rolling stock. If you made a third intetchangable coupling with a small magnet embedded inside, you could connect the cars together with a real metal chain. They would be stronger than the 3D printed chains, and theoretically be easier to connect together.
