I got a defective Samsung Flip (not the phone...) electronic flipchart WM55H with a broken touch interface. Here is how I repaired it... using my thermal camera.

That's a very impressive product. For tracing these kinds of faults without a thermal camera, the slightly lower tech way is to use a vapourizer pen which is loaded with pine rosin flux. The rosin evaporates and condenses into a white film of crystals which coat the parts to be tested. If a capacitor is internally shorted, the white film of flux will melt and point out the shorted component like a sore thumb. The other essential tool of this method is a 0.5 volt power supply which provides power for heating but is too low in voltage to flow beyond the short in almost all cases.

Isopropyl alcohol in a syringe will boil aggressively on a hot component also

Fantastic! I wish thermal cameras weren't that expensive, I'd totally get one! Thank you for the video! We use tons of those Samsung Flip devices at work. It's great until it isn't. For such an expensive product and with all the great technology like having external input as a window appearing over your writing area there is also severe limitations: Somehow, Samsung forgot to include even the simplest features of MS Paint like drawing straight lines or simple shapes, meaning you have to use old black-board utilities to draw those and risk scratching the screen. Also, the processing power of those boards is (especially the larger version, not the smaller one you have) reaches it's limit when using the onboard web browser! Have a nice day!

There are USB thermal cameras that you can plug into your phone, they're relatively cheap.I have a Topdon TC-001 and it's really useful.

That's a great acquisition for the cost of a bit of troubleshooting and 2 inexpensive components.

Think of all the chalk you could buy for €2000! Very neat though, good repair work.

It is 2k lines and 4k dots. Obviously the higher number counts.

They sell a vapor rosin pen that smokes rosin onto the parts when u see the rosin melt thats the short around 8 bucks got one today for my ssd drive cool board

I have seen that. It's a clever tool but if you have a thermal camera.... nothing beats that. :-)

nice device! cooler then the ones from Cisco, apparently.

Interesting, just saw a new 75" for €2230. We have similar touchscreens here at school, some with integrated i5 PC's and "75 size but somehow the Samsung one seems way more responsive when writing.

Nice fix! Where do you get these things? I’m scouting Ricardo but the prices are often ridiculous there and a lot of it just gets dumped to the “recycler” by offices. Also, where do you get individual semi conductors from? China is a gamble but distrelec etc charge 18-20 CHF for shipping when I only need a 1.- capacitor. Would love your input. And thanks for the videos, I enjoy watching them :)

Since repairing things is our business, we don't buy only one or two components, we usually buy 50 or 100 or we try to combine orders. Usually shipping cost is free when you order 50+ SFr. In this case I took a capacitor that I salvaged from an old server board. I collect small SMD components from waste. The Samsung Flip came from one of our own offices.

IMHO, like my Samsung flat screen TV (about 3 years old) - both are spoilt by inferior SM Caps or placed too near hot things or somewhere flexible, otherwise superb product.

I believe these things were close to 4,000 CHF new and were only sold directly by Samsung and not through resellers. Mind you anything close to this just ten years ago could cost you as much as a nice compact car.

Actually, 3840x2160 *is* 4K
@PlaywithJunk8 ай бұрын
Yeah I was confused because they switched from counting lines (1080) to counting dots per line. Up to 1080 it was vertical resolution and then it became horizontal resolution.
@bok..8 ай бұрын
It is 4k! If its 3840 x 2160 pixel then thats 4k. 2560x1440 would be 2k :)

4:13 "3840 × 2160 (4K UHD) is the dominant 4K standard" nope that is indeed 4K. There's a few 4K standards. edit: oops, few people already said this. sorry

Well done :-D i guess it was not cheap. Those smd capacitors ( Craps ) :-D are always failing. Laptop computers are not safe either. I suspect that capacitors are poor quality to fail early, force people to buy new devces. ill shut up now.
