Just an FYI for everyone... this repair is a TON easier if you tip the washer on its side... no need to remove the whole front of the washer. You can just remove the 3 screws holding the pump in place, disconnect the hoses, and remover/replace the pump. Super easy!

I want to thank you also!!! Saved me a couple hundred bucks as well! The 3 videos on this particular fix were spot on, easy to follow, and made it a really stress free project. One thing I found on my 6 year old machine.....the rubber back-flow preventer on my machine got old and wasn't tight fitting any longer....so when the hose is replaced, I needed to make sure the device was well seated and not moving out of place when reattaching the hose. (I learned that the hard way...but at least I learned). The best part of the whole process was I got to "bank" a lot of points with the wife by only having to buy the replacement pump motor! Now I have no excuse to not take her out to dinner!

+Mark Goldojarb I enjoy reading posts like this. I hope this gives curage to anyone who might be afriad to try fixing this themselves. I remember when I was afraid to work on stuff. Now the only thing I wouldn't work on is a home air conditioning system. I've fixed so much stuff it is really mind blowing. car clutch, water pump, fuel pump, dryer heater element, dish washer motor, tons of pool stuff , tons of lawn mower stuff, and huge amount not listed. I wish I started filming this stuff long ago.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I was quoted $300 with a three week wait time to repair my washer. I bought the part from Amazon for $29.00 and with a little borrowed muscle from my husband my washer was up and running in an hour and a half. Your step by step instruction was perfect. Thanks for taking the time to show how to do this step by step. In my case it turned out the problem was a loose impeller. The impeller is plastic and the socket on the back of the impeller contains a key to lock the impeller onto the motor rotor shaft, and the key was broken. I epoxied the impeller back on to the rotor shaft. I was able to do the entire repair, including undoing the hose connections and completely removing the motor, through the clean-out hatch on the front of the machine, and thus avoid taking the front panel off. One thing to be careful of, though - the circular stamped metal cutout that the cleanout goes through has sharp edges. After cutting myself twice, I put tape over the edge while I was doing the rest of the work.

Before you replace the pump, I suggest a diagnosis. I learned a lesson from my pump repair. I found that my pump runs if I hook it up directly to 12 VAC and then I realized that my control board did not output 120 VAC on demand. See my write-up: If you replaced the pump and the pump still does not move (no pump humming noise at the beginning) when you do a spin only cycle/run, your control board is not sending 120 VAC to the pump. Super easy to diagnose before any pump repair. Just take out the the front drain box/bezel/grey square plastic box where little drain tube is (just remove two screws, pry from left or right side). You will see the pump connector behind the bezel (for my Samsung WF218ANB/XAA washer). Unplug and use a multimeter to see whether the plug outputs 120 VAC when you do a spin only cycle. Everyone should do this before pump repair. In my case, pump still good after 9 years; control board not outputting 120 VAC to pump. Bought used board on eBay. It took less than 10 min to install. No need to remove the front aluminum control knob! Level 1/4 skill needed for board installation. Super easy.

Great video..! I just finished putting mine back together and everything works great. My problem wasn't the pump... I HIGHLY recommend that you take off all of the major hoses, even if they feel flexible and free from obstructions. I found a lens from a pair of reading glasses lodged in the white plastic 90 degree gizmo, just prior to the pump. I was prepared to order the pump and had actually already added it to my cart on Amazon. I'm glad I went back and checked the hoses.

Good video, followed step by step and replaced drain pump. Still didn't fix my drain problem, my problem was the drain hose going into the standpipe in wall was too far in. it must have worked it's way down, pulled it out and made sure only 6 inches went into the wall. It worked after that, so make sure you drain pipe didn't fall down the standpipe before opening up your machine. It still was a good video and my washer has a new drain pump and should last longer.

... no need to dismantle the whole washing machine ! Disconnect all water pipes and electric supply, pull the w-machine out, lay the washing machine on its back (watch those pipes! put a piece of wood so the W-machine will not crash the pipes) and presto you have access to everything .... without disconnecting everything !! I performed the same task in less time and taking out only the pump !!

MUCH easier to replace the pump by tipping the machine on its side as follows. Drain all water using the drain tube behind the access panel on the lower front of the washer. Lay washer on its right side. On lower front of the washer, unscrew the two screws and remove the gray plastic cover surrounding pump cleanout plug and drain tube. You can now reach inside the large hole on the bottom of the washer to push the gray plastic cover in from one side to get it to release and pop out the front of the machine. Two of three hoses connected to the pump housing can now be removed by pinching the clamps with your fingers and sliding the clamps back. Unclip the power plug from the pump. Reach inside the bottom of the washer and unbolt the two bolts securing the pump housing to the base of the washer. Pull out the pump/housing from the bottom of the machine while it is connected to the last (largest) of the hoses. The last hose can now be easily unclamped and removed by finger pressure. The pump can now be easily switched out of its housing on a workbench by removing 5 screws.

After tearing my washer apart three times, replacing the pump, checking all the hoses with no results, I discovered a pvc 90 towards the rear of the washer. You can access it from the front, removing two phillips screws. It contained a stubbornly stuck quarter! I recommend checking it first before pulling the pump if your pump still seems to be operating but you're getting only a trickle in the drain.

Great Video! (If your pump is turning, read this)Just wanted to add my experience. Water would drain out slowly through the clean out, but would only pump a small amount and would eventually "Code Out ND". Pump would run, everything was clean, even used a shop vac, still slow to drain. Put hot water in the washer tub to see if it would free up anything. Had the clean out open to drain into a bucket. Noticed it was slow from the tub to the drain, thought this was odd, but wrote it off as all the twist and turns the water had to make.Ordered a new pump, had it in hand and got into the washer. Taking off the rubber hoses to clean. Had the motor housing out, decided I would go ahead and take off the larger hose that comes off the bottom of the tub (last one to look at). This actually goes into a plastic part that makes a 90 degree turn. BAMM, inside that plastic 90 was two $1.00 bills and a quarter. The quarter was half way into the 90 where it actually tapers down. Cleaned everything up put all the plumbing back together, put water in the tub and it came straight through, SUCCESS! I did not change the pump! We're back in business, with a new pump on the shelf, just in case it goes south. Found it on eBay for under $40.00 delivered. My big question! How did the $2.25 get in there? I found NO ports that large, maybe not looking in the right place.

Thanks to the original poster for this video and part 3 if I'm not mistaken that showed how to put the rubber seal back on. Thanks! To the person who mentioned the slow draining I experienced the same thing. Had buildup and particles all at the housing that connected the hoses to the pump. Cleaned them all out and washer runs full cycle and quicker without the ND error. Thanks again!

So I pulled the pump from the back. It's tricky but can be done. Anywho, apparently the seals on the pump failed and the MOTOR filled with water. The odd thing is that the inside of the motor appears to be "sealed"; in that the magnet around the impeller shaft is enclosed in a separate "container" than the coils. The magnets basically sit in a sealed plastic tube. (I hope that made sense.) My point is: I am shocked that the seals failed so quickly (2 years). Also, I'd guess it has been waterlogged for a long time. There was very little lubrication in the motor. Great vid by the way!

Thanks for the video - our washer now works and all it took was a $25 part from Amazon! $100s saved. (subscribed and liked!). I took the suggestion of some of the other commenters and cleaned out some of the hoses while I was in there, so we have the added benefit that the washer no longer smells like a wet dog. Why do you suppose Samsung uses a hose with accordion folds which serve as places for muck to grow?

Thanks for making and sharing this video. I have sub'd your channel and I look ahead to watching all your DIY videos. I have almost the same washer but mine is the model# WF210ANW/XAA 01. Is this the same procedure for my WF210 model? I need to get the top and the front off. Right below the soap loading tray - water is leaking and there is some minor rust. I want to stop the rusting, prevent further leaks by repairing what I can by treating the area with with a rust inhibitor and then repaint the front with an appliance epoxy paint. Since I don't have a way to metal fab and weld a patch I need to get a bit creative with the repair. I need to get mine apart and do what I can without replacing the whole front of the washer. Please advise - we really can't afford to pay someone to fix this before it turns into a Real PITA and have bills we can't afford. Any advice and help is really appreciated!

Help! HELP!!! My washer will not drain in the waste drain. But it will drain in a bucket. I guess at a lower level. Is this a drain pump problem? I hear the motor running but water will not drain unless I take the hose out and lower in a bucket. When I raise the hose, the water stops draining. When I lower, it will drain in bucket.
@HeartandSoulApothecary

Dwight D. Kelly check to see if drainage hoses coming away from machine are too far inside pipes to drain away - it could be a gravity issue. But if its making whining noises, do the tipping it on its side and check for blockages in hoses attached to drainage motor. Then if those are clear, then reattached and it still doesn’t work, then its most likely the need to replace the drainage motor assembly. Yes available on Amazon, but there are some other great USA companies that will find the right part for your specific machine. Mine cost just $45 and was originally on amazon for $80, just saying.. ;)
