5:07 remember to download and use Windows HDR Calibration, Windows itself doesn't matter if you're using HDR... it's mostly for video and games. I also set my SDR content balance to 0 when playing HDR in games, because it seems way brighter when doing so and HDR pops more on this monitor. Having it half way is a decent compromise, but if you're not playing HDR content, turn it off until you are.

I got this monitor last week. I have a similar PC setup as you. I was having all the same issues as you. I was able to fix the flashing white boxes and black screens with a high speed DisplayPort cable.... My 2 main compaints are, if any TV or monitor I've ever owned (I'm in my late 40's, so, it's a lot), this one, BY FAR, has required the most tinkering with the settings. After a week, things still aren't great (but it's getting there).. Aparently, I have a stripped down version of the 49in G9 Odyssey (without the remote or "smart tv" features). The menu button on the back is pretty bad. I have to push it pretty hard for it to do anything, and the menus are pretty slow to respond... I watched a lot of review of this monitor, and this one is the most accurate one (at least in my experience) that I've seen.... Oh, and I'm also connecting it to a Macbook Pro (in addition to my PC), so I have to have a KVM switch. Getting it to look at all decent on the Mac was a chore.

I got this monitor in september of 2024 and I have the firmware version 2000. I had similar amounts of confusion with the monitor like you have initially. The blackscreen issue is something that persists at 32x9 with hdr and GSYNC and I found the root of the issue is displayport. I since switched to HDMI 2.1 and the problem completely went away. Overall a much more seamless experience. The burn-in preventative maintenance is automatic and there is no manual option for it. It is called screen optimization, will run for 10 minutes and, it will trigger on its own. The Default color settings are trash and it looks stunning when properly calibrated. Turn off contrast enhancer and when using gaming mode keep HDR and HDR 10+ settings at basic. I don't have to change the screen aspect ratio from the monitor when gaming like you had to. I am able to play starfield in 32x9 natively I guess there was an update. Most games I play seem to take no issue with the aspect ratio, with the exception of Black myth wukong, eldenring, and diablo 4.

One of the only honest reviews on these screens. Its funny that these monitors are mostly marketed as gaming monitors because it is especially in productivity that they are valuable: video editing, project management, product design etc. I´m certainly in the market to replace my current 21:9 IF my Thinkpad can drive it as a second screen, not sure how that will work.

I run a 27+34+27 right now and the center 34 is 21:9 but without being able to do "surround gaming" due to mismatched monitors I am looking to upgrade. The Neo G9 49" and OLED are so hard to choose between. At the end of the day I do much more work than gaming/media consumption so lots of static things (burn in) and text (clarity) so even though I LOVE OLED and wish I could have those super dark perfect blacks, and I prefer a dim screen over a really bright one (my current monitor only 30% brightness) I decided to go with the 57" Neo so I can finally upgrade for 1440P to 4K, and I just hope that it looks good when doing stuff that cant support 32:9 I do not think I would have been really happy replacing 3 monitors with a single 1440 I would lose screen restate that I am used to using every day. I can barely fit the 3 monitors i have now so could not just upgrade the 34" to a 49", but replacing all 3 with a high res 57" that can work... I'll actually get some extra desk space and yet still have more pixels. A couple more generations when they change the pixel arrangement for text clarity and have some kind of pixel saver feature built in that works, then I will have to change to OLED.

Setup took 5 mins and I have an Iphone, would have been easier if I had a samsung. Not had any of these issues, I use a fibre optic HDMI cable on my pc and a usb c to display port from my mac. I just turned it to gaming mode and set hdr to advanced and everything has been amazing! A really fun game for 32:9 with all bells and whistles is Doom eternal. I'm using a 7900xtx (tuf). This monitor is breathtaking. I use auto hdr in windows, world of warcraft is incredible on this. Also the 0.03 ms response time is the 1st time I have felt like i'm on a crt for response time I had no idea it would be so noticable, just amazing. Oh and it's 10% less pixels than 4k so you can judge how well a game will run in 32:9.

I think the random black screens are due to power issues, or inconsistencies.. i just got an alienware qd oled ultrawide and it does it too, but it only does it when my AC unit experiences some power regulations or something, because they're perfectly in sync. The image returns fast and it also happened once when my AC unit was turned off. So try and look into that, see if you can plug the monitor into a free outlet and your pc into a different power outlet. Hope it helps.
@lilpain1997 Жыл бұрын
it could be that tbh but Samsung are known to have awful QC so it also wouldn't be surprising if its just an issue with the monitor. I know of far to many people who have had to send back the G9, Neo G9 ( heck even the G7, 8 and their neo counter parts ) multiple times before either giving up or getting one that isn't a piece of trash. Its a huge reason I wont buy them at the very high end, they 1) don't offer anything over anyone else and 2) they have the worst QC possible.

it actually has pixel refresh iirc, when the monitor has clocked 4 hours on time ( example: you have the screen turned on for 5 hours of gaming and then turn it off) when you turn it off it will automatically run a pixel refresh to clear charges in the panel. unfortunately its not an option to manually run it. but it's happening when you don't use the screen (if it's turned off and plugged in) when it has clocked 4 hours of screen on time.

I used to have the flickering issue when I had multi monitor setup with two different resolutions (4KTV + 1440p Monitor, both 16:9), ended up making them exclusive rather than extend (but this solution doesn't work for all use cases since mine was either/or for the TV comfy gaming vs upright productivity). First two things I looked up before making a decision was (1) how to play split screen to preserve 16:9 for most games (answer: Power Toys > Fancy Zones with games in Borderless; this allows the black borders to be used as other apps instead) and (2) which games support 32:9 anyway (enough that I would play). With that in mind (my use case), I made the decision. So new buyers, make sure to ask the relevant questions for your research and if not, hope these two of mine helped raise those questions and answer them too. Wanted to share these since they were a couple of the main issues presented in this video. :) My use case though, was that I needed two monitors for work, but can only use one cable on my desk space the way I've got my studio set up. So my current setup is similar to what I describe above, but I replaced the 1440p monitor with the G9. :)

I've just bought the G93 version of that monitor and not the G95 that is in this video. And for two days I was also thinking to bring it back to store. Main difference is between the type, that G93 comes without the smart functions and remote, but have the same panel as G95. But for that you get G93 cheaper. And here comes my problem with the monitor. Without the remote you have to use that little jog button at the back of the panel, which is a piece of shit. There are a lot of discussions on the internet about it, that I was not aware before. The button in not responsive and slow. First, I couldn't get to the menu, then I thought display port is not working, I couldn’t switch between HDMI and dp sources. Now, after 5 days using it, I think the whole problem was that cheap button. With more force and patience, I am now able to use it in 80% of cases… Also, worth to mention that I takes up to 2-3 sec to switch between 2 sources. It seems a bit slow for me.
@chettystudios Жыл бұрын
Glad to hear some feedback on the G93, originally this is the one I would have bought since the "smart features" seem to be kind of redundant on a monitor that will be connected to a PC, but at the time of purchase it was actually more expensive than G95. Do you think the jog wheel issues are worth the money saved for anybody looking to choose between the two?
@balazstoth1460 Жыл бұрын
@@chettystudios 2 weeks after purchase I can tell that I got used to the jog. My only issue is, that also the menu of the G93 is different, so the settings provided by display guy on the G95 can not be adjusted 100% on the G93 :)

As someone who has been running 32:9 for the past 2 years, most games I have played run perfect with 32:9 so I’m not sure how you’ve found that not many games run that aspect ratio?
@chettystudios Жыл бұрын
I should have said most games I've tried, not most games in general. Starfield, Overwatch, Little Nightmares, Hollow Knight, and Ori and the Blind Forest were the games I had download and was playing at the time of the video and none worked natively with 32:9. Everybody plays different games and its always best to just check the compatibility. My point was that usually when buying a monitor, you don't have to check to make sure the games you play are supported, with this you should factor that in.

What cable should I use to connect to MacBook Pro for this monitor?

I think there's a difference between the output of m1 and m2 and depending on which model you have you'll either need DisplayPort or HDMI to USB-C, but I would double check just to make sure

I have a 2019 Macbook Pro. I used the highest speed DisplayPort to USB-C cable I could find (I think I paid like $20 on Amazon). It makes a world of difference. Using HDMI to USB-C at the highest resolution was FUZZY/BLURRY. With the DisplayPort to USB-C, it was MUCH better.

@paleofolk surprisingly it went away by itself, i dont know if the screen had to reset or what but one day after i had turned off for the day I came back, turned it on and it was back to normal. @Chettystudios I have a question that I think you are well suited to answer. I am looking for a monitor to maximize my monitor real estate, but virtually all of the use would be for productivity. I oversee research and often need 4-6 windows open at once in order to be maximally efficient. Whereas I can say money is no object, spending senselessly is a waste. For instance, I don’t need to 240hz refresh. But, in addition to the 49” screen size, the larger curve is great, especially as I get older (my current monitor makes me stretch to see the ends of the monitor clearly) and I see this monitor may have the most pronounced curve for 49”. I am moderately comfortable with tech and can change settings easily, but don’t have a spare week to spend dozens of hours to get this running. Any thoughts you have on the application of this monitor to my needs would be greatly appreciated. I won’t hold anything against you for anything that goes different for me! Many thanks. I should not that I am using a MacBook Pro M3 with an Echo 20 Thunderbolt 4 Superdock.
@chettystudios9 ай бұрын
@@Dr_Cole I would say this is probably not the best option considering, as you stated, a lot of what you're paying for is the high refresh rate and "gaming" features so I would rather look into some non-oled ultra wides (especially for productivity work, OLED can be a bit of an eye strain for some due to the subpixel layout causing text fringing). LG has quite a solid reputation for quality and a great productivity lineup such as their LG 40WP95C-W for example. There aren't a ton of ultrawides with the 1800r curve out there unfortunately, but with something like the 40in by LG previously mentioned, it isn't as wide, but its taller, so you wouldn't have to move your head side to side as much since there would be more vertical screen real-estate. That one also is marketed as having great compatibility with thunderbolt, although some of the reviews on the LG website state otherwise, so I would definitely check out some KZbin reviews and see how it fairs in the hands of somebody with hands on experience.

So the flickering problem I've experienced in the past (not with this monitor) and the culprit was the display driver needed to be updated. In my case it was an Intel driver.
@chettystudios Жыл бұрын
I’ve double checked the drivers and unfortunately it’s not that, for some odd reason if I turn the monitor on, game until it happens, then turn it off for a minute it goes away for the rest of the night so only thing I can chalk it up to is maybe it’s trying to do a pixel refresh of some sort and turning it off gives it a chance to do its thing

I think more games will patch in 32:9 but Samsung needs to clean up some of the OS issues. I have had OLED Pannels since they release, and I am not responsible at all, and I never had burn in. @drunkhusband6257 Жыл бұрын
When I had the original G9, 32:9 support wasn't the issue. The issue is that basically every 3d game stretches the image on the edge of the screen. Lowering the FOV slightly helps, but there is just no way around it. 21:9 even had higher fovs does not have this problem. I honestly doubt this will ever get fixed by game developers due to the niche audience of 32:9 displays.
@kleinfeicht Жыл бұрын

Either will work, HDMI 2.1 will allow you to use 240hz it’s the older HDMI’s that limit to 120, but with a 4090 you will be fine.
