Correct, you will need to stick a couple screws (I used drywall) to wedge between the gap of the HD Pivot bracket to keep it from drooping. No drilling required, but obviously this is not a supported or recommended solution direct from Ergotron's support. They are aware of the issue with this large of a panel, but so far there is no ETA as to if/when a heavier duty HD pivot bracket will be released. This is information I obtained from their chat Support off their website 11/20/23.

It continues to blow my mind people expect in-built speakers to come with their premium monitor. If you've got $2500 for a monitor, you absolutely won't be satisfied with a tacky speaker add-on. The quality just won't match; as you said it's merely added expense, weight, and etc. that would be bypassed. I mean really, I'm >$6k into a simple 3.1 audio setup already, and my sub cost as much as this monitor. I could add another $6k worth of surround. I don't want tinny crap tacked on to a top-of-class monitor; nor does anyone want to pay an extra $1k for a soundbar-tier system to come with this monitor, which it would need in order to do it justice. Anything less would be egregious, so they made the right move to not put them in. That's why Paganis don't come with cheap plastic cups or some such, but rather hand-stitched premium leather luggage, and nothing less. Better nothing than cheap crap.

In the past hour, I watched ten-twelve so-called reviews of this monitor. This was the first time I watched a review for a monitor of any kind. Up until the point I watched yours, I was amazed at the stupidity of people to talk about the monitor while having their backs to it. You are the only SANE reviewer to actually work with the monitor, show the menus, the lights, PiP, scaling, and all those other stuff. Congrats sir.

As of today (11/19/2023), this is best review on this monitor. What I liked about this review is that he didn't saturate it with arguments to help people like or don't like the product; instead, he gave you "raw" data and allowed you to comfortably make an informed decision. This is how a review should be done, really appreciate it. There were no personal preferences in his review, just data/facts. I listened to a reviewer today reviewing this monitor and he spent so much time talking about the "matte finish" of the monitor. I don't mind him bringing it up, but that's a personal preference, state it in the review on move on. Not everyone uses a monitor in a lit room.

so, for those trying to get 120 Hz when in BPP mode and have an Nvidia card, you need to scroll down to the PC section in the resolution setting of the NVIDIA control panel. There, you will be able to change the refresh rate to 120 HZ. For some reason, there are two resolution sections, the top being ultra HD, HD, and SD, which only gives you 60Hz and lower, whereas the section called PC allows for 120 HZ. I have an RTX 4090 and use HDMI ports for my PC and work laptop

How can you run it at 240Hz?! Even with DP2.1 you do not have enough throughput for it right? DP2.1 is maxed out at 77.37 Gbps afaik At 10bit colour depth (3x10 because 3 colour channel): 7680 x 2160 x 3 x 10 x 240 bit bandwidth per second = 119.439... Gbps At 8bit colour depth: 7680 x 2160 x 3 x 8 x 240 = 95.551... Gbps Both are more than the cable can handle based on my understanding. Did I get anything wrong?

You can do 4k at 120hz in PbP, I have this monitor.
@DLAN-5
@DLAN-5 10 ай бұрын
What is your GPU? I'm curious for an Asus 4090 with two HDMI 2.1 ports. The GPU should support 240hz at 4k for each output, if PbP limits the output to 60hz it's a software limitation of the display or the cable used. Also the review shows when he was doing PbP for HDMI he was on HDMI 1 and 3, the configuration would require HDMI 2 and 3 based on the manual. The GPU should support 240hz on either DP or HDMI but HDMI 2.1 has a bit less DSC required with the increased throughput. There is only one DP output on the monitor so HDMI 2.1 (2 & 3) or DP + HDMI 2.1 (2 or 3) would be the only way to run the max throughput this monitor supports with the 4090 and subsiquently the max horizontal resolution. According to NVIDIA's website the vertical resolution could be a bit higher and that could allow for a small tablet or non standard monitor but would be technically difficult to test while maintaining gsync compatability and such. When I get my display in I plan to test PbP, it's not a deal breaker as I'm sure software updates will fix any limitation but if you or the reviewer can confirm 120 or 240hz works on these ports for either (DP + HDMI 2 or 3) or (HDMI 2 + 3) . Also the review may not have been using an 8k hdmi cable and that could have limited the frame rate. I have a Neo G8 outputting 4k 240hz off a single hdmi cable presently and have also been able to drive that resolution and frame rate from DP 1.4. Overall great and thorough review but nothings perfect.

Struggled to find a good review about this monitor and you did an outstanding job in delivering it. Specifically on very different aspects that are important for me to consider buying it. That gave me more confidence to reconsider the 49 OLED Odyssey which is worth it to not at least lose its aspects given certain conditions like how this one does. I'm using BenQ XR3501 since close to its release that's like 7-8 years ago, give or take. I've tried many monitors and I'm glad I got this one and still using it because it's worth every cent I've paid for it. But now it started giving me horizontal lines which I haven't yet checked if it's my graphic card or it just aged more than enough lol. 2 years I'm searching for a monitor and just couldn't find a better overall than this. The only thing its missing is some more speed to catch up with the current generation monitors, have 5120 x 2160 resolution or higher (adding more inches if that's even possible), and an HDR.

This isn't 8K. As a viewer, this constant reitteration of false information is a turn off. If you can't get simple facts correct, then what else is wrong in your descriptions or feedback? 8K = 4x4k. 4k =3840x2160, and 8k=7680 × 4320. This could be called Dual UHD (what Samsung says), Dual 4k (which is just UHD), or 1/2 8k. But facts are just not something you can change.

(3840*2160)/(5120*1440)=1.125 so the res you are calling 5k is more like 3.5k in terms of pixel count, no wonder the 4090 generates fewer frames at 4k. Also, the res you are calling 8k is not 8k but more like twice the pixel count of 4k whereas 8k is actually 4 times the pixel count of 4k. I know, it is stupid to call 7680*4320 res 8k, it should be called 16k (bc if 4k is 4 times the 1080p and 8k is 4 times the 4k then 8k should be 16k). EDIT: this is a really good review/video, appreciate it :)

Thank you for your support Patrick, it means a lot. I totally agree, Not having a suitable monitor arm for this size monitor can be very problematic. I contacted ergotron and they said that they might look into designing one in the future? And its not even the whole arm that needs to be designed, thats what gets me. The arm that I'm using is actually capable of holding the weight of the monitor without issue, its the cheap head that connects to the monitor thats the issue. All they would need to do is beef up the same head they use for the 49in and I would think it would work. There is no way the majority would be able to use this monitor with the stand that it comes with.

Would never buy something like this given my experience with other 49” monitors. The only way I can record with obs and get a 16:9 aspect ratio recording is if I change my display resolution to 1920x1080 which as you can guess is displayed the exact same size as a 27 inch monitor but on a 49” wide display. Drives me off the walls. if I really needed that much real estate I would get 2 32” 16:9 monitors and put them next to each other. I can’t believe I’m saying this but the only way this could be useful for content creation is if you use it as a second monitor for editing. Even then the mouse sensitivity required to operate one of these monitors drives me f*cking insane, 100% not optimized for gamers no matter how much they say it is 😂

Thx for this video, it is very entertaining and informativ! I was thinking to buy such a monitor but decided to stay on a multi-monitor-setup (as I do for almost 30 years). The pros were, that the monetary spending was massively lower but the solution much bigger / wider. Actually I have a setup with a center-40"- (UWQHD) and two framing 32" ((W)QHD)-monitor(s). I can use a mediocre expensive GPU (6900XT) with an overall resolution of 8560*1440 in 2D and 3440*1440 in 3D. The workflow (e.g. management of windows) is easy, I do not need any software for it. Of course, the immersion in games is not comparable with the one of a curved and huge monitor like the Samsung of this video, but it is existing for about 1500,-€ and without any problems. To use such a huge monitor like the mentioned Samsung and to play with it, you will need to buy a rtx 4900, if it will sufficent @all, perhaps a rtx 5900 will be adequat, with all the costs u have to spend.

The subtle "washing out" of the colors towards the bottom particularly for grey/black is due to the narrow viewing angles of the VA panel I believe. You not only need to be at the horizontal center, you also need to be at the vertical center of the monitor, which is not that ergonomic anymore (looking down on monitor than up is more ergonomic). That's what I'll trade for an IPS, given I only use this for productivity. I reckon even if I game, I won't really notice the inferior blacks on IPS without a point of comparison. The dream is an RGB QD-OLED of course, without the non-standard pixel arrangement causing text clarity issues.

Hello, regarding the mounting options stated @5:18, I actually went with the Atdec AWMS-BT51 for my monitor. It works great and holds my monitor well. However it's more of a set it and forget it type of mount, only allowing a single pole with clamp that would allow you to make adjustments. Assuming you do not need to move your monitor, this would work. It is however around $230-$250 so it may not be budget friendly.

Wow. Was searching for just this video for the port connections as even Samsung guys didn't have the information to which Mac or Samsung galaxy book can support what resolution at what refresh rates. I was highly confused whether a M3 or M3 pro could run the dual 4k at 240hz or atleast 120hz. If not whether it can atleast do dual QHD 5120 * 1440 at 240 hz Or simply 4k at 240hz. Can anyone tell me atleast if Mac M3 or M3 pro can run single 4k at 240 hz over display port ? If not then atleast 5120 * 1440 at 240 hz ?. As far as i know hdmi 2.1 can run 4k at 144 hz. Can it also do 4k at 240 hz or dual 4k at 120hz ?

I know it's late now, but I'll give it a shot anyway... You know if Samsung plans to "fix" the refresh rate limitation when using Picture by Picture mode? Or if there's any workarounds? I've scoured the internet for answers, but can't find anything really... In my case I'm looking at the OLED and not the Neo, but this limitations seems to be the way it's been for ALL G9s, so pretty sure the solution would be the same. I'm VERY interested in the G9 OLED, but it's partly to replace my two monitors with only one... So I'd have to use the Picture by Picture to keep my "second monitor" while playing games... Not having an extra screen besides my game is basically a no-go for me, so it's a make it or break it part of the whole G9 idea.

Best review of this monitor to date! Thank you, now I might upgrade my Samgung G9 OLED 49" to this model. Quick question, which soundbar is that on your desk below your monitor?

17:35 You keep referring to the monitor as 8k (and 5k for lower resolution) but it is neither. 8k is larger than this monitor (and 5k also vertically). Don't know if there is a name for this resolution but maybe double 4k | uhd (and the lower resolution that supports 240hz with dp 1.4 would be double 1440p | qhd?) Also it made it harer to understand what you mean when you say things like 43:08

i love my CH90 for the past 5 yrs it has been amazing and my real issue is not all games support 32:9, starfield still doesn't and elder ring probably never will. I would like to updrade to this once the CH90 dies, not sure if going from 105 PPI to 140 will make that big of a difference and i would need a 4090 to push it so hopefully by then there is something cheaper. My 4070ti runs 2K just fine even maxed RT in cyberpunk.

Hello, I have a question about this monitor, I have a 4090 will i be able to run it at 7,680 x 2,160 120Hz with a 1980 x 1080 60Hz and a 2560 x 1440 120Hz monitors? thanks

2x 4K is not 8K. 8K is 4x 4K. In other words 8K comes from doubling both width and height, so if you want 8K with G9 you need two of them stacked one on top of another. What your "hack" from 43:07 did is changing dual 4K display into two separate 4K displays - so not much really.

Hate to break it to you but pretty sure the display port on 4090 does not and cannot export an 8k signal over 60hz, and it's locked to 4K at 120hz. It can drive 8K at higher Hertz but because the display port is 1.2 it can't actually output it.

At last someone making an in-depth review of the monitor. Great video sir. I can tell you that the biggest deception of this monitor is that 240hz mode is not working with gsync, regardless of what nvidia control panel indicates. I have been trying and trying to no avail. I’m at firmware 1003, I would like to know what has been your experience with this. I am also running a RTX 4090 and I cannot make custom resolutions either. This is the monitor of monitors but Samsung quirks are astonishing. No other brand can shit on a product like Samsung can. We would probably need a North Korean monitor brand to match the number of bugs that this monitor has. The only problem is that it is indeed the pinnacle of monitors. Just the game brightness is enough to replace any oled. I wish that a proper company would make such gadgets but it is only Samsung that pushes boundaries apparently

Are you saying that 240 Hz does not work with Gsync? I’m currently playing RoboCop rogue city and the GS indicator is showing on the monitor suggesting that G sink is working. I’m on 51 20 x 14 40 resolution and on 240 Hz.
@joanhernandezciriza3797
@joanhernandezciriza3797 10 ай бұрын
@@HighTechCheckyes exactly. G sync is not working if any resolution/refresh rate is set on the 240hz monitor mode. You can quickly test this with the g sync pendulum demo. You will see tearing even though you toggle gsync on nvidia control panel. I’m pretty confident that you have the same problem and pretty much any one that bought this monitor. I caught this problem because I’m very sensitive to smoothness and I tried everything that this monitor has to offer. It would be great that you could put this to test and report back cause I predict a flood of complaints when customers get their hands on these monitors. It happens to the previous G9s according to forums. Thanks in advance and great video

@@joanhernandezciriza3797 I think the issue is with the rtx card. I read somewhere Nvidia is working with Samsung to solve the issue. This doesn't happen with an amd card using dp or hdmi.

@@tchlinyes could be the case but it is really strange that g sync works at the 120hz mode regardless de resolution and r refresh rate. In these modes I’m using the full connection bandwidth and gsync works, so definitely not a bandwidth limitation. It must be a bugg or just Samsung giving you the middle finger

So, the Mac Studio M1 doesn't fill the native resolution of this monitor, using one signal. Could it work if you use two cables as if the Mac Studio were handling two regular 4K monitors, and setup the monitor to show each signal as a different source?

FYI, 8K does not equal just the horizontal pixel count but also the vertical. 8K = 7,680 by 4,320 which this monitor does NOT support.

garbage, broke down after a couple of months. no image anymore. searched online for a solution. was not the only one with the issue. for the price you pay you should expect the provider to callback this device if there is such a recurring issue with a high end device. also the plastic enclosure on the back, cheap, breaks off when applying minor force to open it.
