There's a custom Rom port for Android 9 with one UI, and is a great update, it brings the phone new life and it works very good, you should try and update

I just bought one brand new in 2022 for $50 from marketplace & I must say the phone is beautiful! I love the old home button & light up back & recent apps button it really gives that nostalgic feel & full screen real estate! Sure it ain't getting android 11 or 12 but I must say for $50 bucks brand new I am loving it, I highly recommend for anyone who can find it for cheap! Reminds me of my S4/S5 days! 😇

My Samsung A5 2017 will be 3 and a half years old soon and still works just fine. Battery still last a day, it used to last me 2 days at the beginning but I use it so much more now . I wanted to buy another one but I'm still happy with it so I'll keep it another year at least.😁 Phones are quite expensive nowadays and this phone had nice features for that price back in the day.

If your gonna get this get the A8 instead it was much better Just a heads up- when using these older Oreo phones use "high contrast theme II" from the theme store to get a dark mode style- it.doesn't cover EVERY app but it.makes a huge difference when using settings menus

I still have this phone. It doesn't work as good as it did back in 2018 when I bought it, but I am still very satisfied with it. And about the dark mode...I feel you. I wish it had, but there is kind of a solution for it, which is downloading a black theme and most apps have their own dark mode, so with these two things you get like 60 or 70% dark mode on the phone. Also, thanks for the review, it feels good for this phone to be mentioned again.

About a year ago, I upgraded from A5 2017 to A70 and I have to say that A5 was slightly better, because it felt like I was holding iPhone X in my hands. And it also had some features that A70 doesn't have, like IP68 water/dust resistant. Well I mean A70 has better battery, storage and RAM, but it still doesn't really feel as premium as my previous phone.

Bought this phone new off of Ebay almost 3 years ago. I've dropped this thing over 30 times and the screen only has slight cracks and scratches. Still pretty fast. Video Recording is not overly good.. But the pictures I can take with this thing are fantastic looking. Best 300 bucks I've ever spent.

I remember this device when my friend bought it back in 2017.. during that time I had bought the Moto G5 plus (also released in the same year) and at first I kinda regretted not getting the A5 for its waay better display quality and for its similar specs and price range. But fast forward now, I think it was a better decision to stick with the Moto instead my friend later had to throw his A5 away due to poor battery longevity and performance issues. Gotta say, Samsung has come a long way in terms of making solid mid-range phones and it was good see someone revisiting their old phones. Keep up the good work! 👍

@Viktor Daněk Also I hate modern phones. Because, Modern phone are not good for long-lasting. My A5 16 mp camera capture more detail still now than 48mp modern camera. (48/4=12mp). I got last update just 1 week ago. Still I got update on last of 2020. Without any issue, standard size, Super AMOLED display, Glass primiem back, Brand value, Still Its a great phone. I am not gamer. But sometime I play pubg light, freefire. Otheroise social media user. (Sorry for my bad english)

i have to say.. i own the a5 2017 for about 2 1/2 years now and it is absolutely usable. But I bought an iphone 11 recently and you can't deny.. compared to smartphones nowaday it is kinda slow. It stutters, needs a tremendous amount of time to open or close apps and it lacks the support of samsung. It runs still on android 8. I wouldnt recommend to buy a new a5 2017, cause it costs about the same as new Samsung series A types with better hardware and the newest Android. in 2017 it was the best viable option you could have. Good price, here in germany for about 230€, oled screen and a nice size. but for today it's an absolute no, if you don't own one.

I still own a samsung galaxy a5 which i bought in 2017. It was used as a backup phone because i got a samsung galaxy a90 5g on contract The samsung a90 lasted just over a year befpre it completely died i ha e no insurence and ive still got 1 year left on my contract. So until either my contract is cheap enough to pay off or i can get a new phone. Ill have to go back using the samsung galaxy a5 i know back in 2017 i was impressed with the phone. But the big question does it still hold up today .

Thank you so much for posting this! Samsung just killed the motherboard on my S7. They are killing them off one by one..it's all over reddit and I have confirmed with multiple Verizon reps. I was DEVASTED. I'm now relieved to see there is a sister phone that's a year newer and Samsung will more than likely leave alone since it is a not a main phone of their line up that they're trying to get you to upgrade. I got this phone in march 2018 but is was the exynos version(I live in Canada) and after 1 year and a half it started lagging and restarting by itself. So I replaced it with the google pixel 3, which is better in every way

Sadly the CAMERA is very bad to use which is why I am switching. Even though it has the ability to take great pictures in optimal lighting conditions there is no optical image stabilisation and the camera software does not tweak this. This means that while you can take good pictures, 95% of the time you don't. They loose a lot of detail and look very soft and out of focus. My much older Oneplus 2 took better pictures even though the hardware was worse. Check message boards: this is a common issue. To get a good selfie you need to hold it close to your face due to the fixed depth autofocus, have good lighting, use flash anyway and hold your hand absolutely still. Otherwise they will look too blurry even to use on fb or instagram. Terrible call microphone placement that you naturally cover with a finger and mute when you use. Not a bad phone otherwise, love the size, nice crispy screen and once I updated it the battery (which was draining fully in 3 hours) can get a good 8+ hours of heavy use and constant screen on time incl taking photos. So should be enough for the average user to last a day. If you aren't fussed about perfect insta pics and can get this for a bargain second hand like I did (bought it in pristine condition in the box in mid 2019 for £80 - bargain then)

I've bought 2 A5 (2017) last year. The phones hold up very well. Their decently fast, good battery, and good build. The thing it's lacking it software support though as it's past the 3 year mark but there are many custom roms and I have one on one of my A5 (2017). The other one is starting to show signs that the charging port is breaking meaning if I replace it, I lose IP68. The headphone jack is huge for me, I bought a Note 9 when it came out and I use those earbuds for my backup A5's. I got both for about $80 CAD. Good bang for the buck

Have a look if there is dust in the charging port. Had the same problem and got half a sheep out of it and it worked great again! :) but dont use any metal objects to collect it. Use a wooden toothpick or something like that to not short-circuit the port.

@@SebVFX I have. I used a needle to clean the USB C and even that didn't work. I used water and tried cleaning it (didn't use soap) and still that didn't fix it. I used 7 different chargers and bricks and only 2 of them work at an angle. Now it can't even fast charge. I would go in and fix it but the charging port is soldered on
