The screen's actually pretty bad because OLED has less subpixels than LCD. In fact, if you're viewing content where there's only red or blue colors on screen with no green, then the "1080p" display is exactly 720p, far lower than even the iPhone XR/11's 828p. You're only getting a 1080p resolution when the content on screen utilizes the green subpixels. On average with most content, the A50/A51 are displaying between 820p-860p; this isn't a "dynamic resolution" display, but a limitation of the diamond pentile OLED pixel array utilized by most OLED phones that only have a blue+green subpixel or red+green subpixel per pixel, unlike LCDs that have red+blue+green in every pixel, pictured here: OLED: cnet2.cbsistatic.com/img/-zHAQyZwrzF0sFxRI-HHqcjDdPs=/940x0/2018/01/03/c9214789-8bf1-4997-aaf4-9a4d8ca30acc/iphone-diamond-subpixel.jpg LCD: c.stocksy.com/a/rSF500/z9/1251089.jpg?1575375557 For an OLED phone to truly be 1080p+, they'd need to be 1440p or higher like the Note and Galaxy S phones

I wanted the Sharp Aquos Crystal more than any other phone back in 2015, and I still to this day defend the Aquos Crystal's 720p LCD over the Galaxy S6's 1080p+ OLED because of how much worse things like burn-in, jelly motion, color issues, and PWM headaches were in 2015 OLED panels. Granted, OLEDs are greatly improved in 2020 compared to where they were in 2015, but they still have issues that LCDs like those in the iPhone XR/11 are immune to. Worse yet is that the A50/A51, thanks to a crappy diamond pentile pixel array, can fall below the iPhone XR/11's 828p resolution, all the way down to 720p at times. And unlike the 2015 Sharp Aquos, with its 720p coming in crisp on a small 5.0" panel, the A50/A51 look muddy compared to the Aquos when falling down to 720p due to their beefier 6.4"/6.5" panels, especially muddy compared to the XR/11's 828p on 6.1" panels.

I have had A51 three days thus far and is an upgrade from my S8. I can actually see the screen in broad daylight very easily. A step up from 5.8 to 6.5 inch diagonal size and is still an easy one handed phone. Yeah a single bottom firing speaker is what my S8 had so no real difference here. If you have a screen protector the fingerprint sensor won't work, but rear fingerprint on S8 was problematic most times so pattern unlock works just fine and is what I am already use to. The fast charge is as fast as on S8 so that's good too. The day long use is great because S8 needs charged at least once if not twice a day with heavy use after 3 years. Overall this is a great upgrade for me this time around. S20 5G at $1000 this time around was not in the cards, so A51 was a perfect match for me this time!

The Fingerprint Sensor in the always on display is a major plus for me. I miss "Ye Olde" Home Buttons on the front of phones where you could open straight to the Home Screen with 1 touch. No need to pick the phone up! That's one of the reasons I currently own a Sony, as the side mounted Scanner does the same trick!! 😉👍

Mike Hurt there's a reason why. Some Poeple do prefer a smaller screen which is why the iPhone SE was popular combined with its cheap price. This is exactly why Apple have gone for the second gen. I personally would buy it if I could.

I recently bought this phone. Great camera, Great battery life, Great screen and don't forget how loud the sound can be!!! I had an iphone 6 before this one and if this is considered nothing special I can say with no regrets that I'm glad I switched back to Samsung.

Hi Shane, I just watched your review - and you are spot on - I have had my A51 for over a year now and it does everything you said it does. The only thing it doesent have is wireless charging - but the phone charges so fast you don't needed it - during the week when I'm at work I go 2 days before it gets down to 10% I'm still working out how to use the camara to the max, but I think thats more about the user that the phone, but I have taken some great shots. All in all - this thing is great value and when my contract is finished I don't feel the need to upgrade any time soon. My A51 does me fine :-)

The two biggest knocks I've found for the average user is that it has plastic backing and no wireless charging. Two things I personally find useless. $270 bucks and it feels like a major upgrade from the S8 I've had forever.

I have the Samsung Galaxy A50 and it was most probably the best purchase I made for 2019. Once you start using it, you realize that you don't need an expensive flagship to have a great phone experience. The A51 is even nicer than the A50, so it's a major major go in my books.
