Rob, you have just confirmed what I have been suspecting is the mistakes that my Samsung Gear S2 have been making these past couple of years I have been wearing it. Thank you so much!!! It is consistently slightly undercounting my steps whenever I compare it to manually counting a few hundred steps. My heart rate also was many times off compared to manual counting it. yet I was not capable of testing and plotting it so precisely and brilliantly as you have. sleep also never seemed right to me but I had no way of testing it. How I can see that it is making the same mistakes as your Samsung wearable. You are brilliant and publishing on this KZbin channel such greatly needed work! Thank you again, and keep up your great work! 👍👏👏👏

I'm waiting for the "OH MY GOD...this is the best fitness watch ever! It's exceptional! Everything was within 98% accuracy. Buy it NOW!" review. Sadly, that will never happen. Every watch no matter the price has its shortcomings. We are many many years away from serious contenders. To be expected as we're in the infancy stage of smart watches.

Sheesh. I wish you already had tested this 3 months ago when I bought one for my gf. This device is actually pretty good as a light version of a smart watch, since it is pretty good with notifications and detects when you exercise. The Samsung app also has some pretty good training programs. But the measurements accuracy is pretty bad. Thanks a lot, and I like your step by step approach. It's just like you are presenting a scientific article in a congress. I can learn about the devices and learn about presenting methods. Wish you lots of success

Hey Rob, what are your thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy Fit 3 watch that was launched recently?
3 жыл бұрын
Great review. I am also not satisfied with it, mostly due to software (un)friendliness with iOS. However, I did notices that HR heavily depends on the position on the hand. The more it is closer to the wrist it is better. Also, the sensor it uses for HR is completely different then most of other wristbands, due to which it has measurement inertia, and all other issues that come with it. Try repeat some of these tests with the band closer to the wrist. Additionally, even if it can be easily removed from the band, it performs poorly when it is in the pocket, e.g. as a step counter.

I have a Samsung Active 2 and can confirm that it shows me way more awake time than I have. There are nights in which I barely wake up and it gives me like 1h and something of awake. And usually way less deep than I surely have.

this video is on the Fit 2, not the Active 2. Did you mean fit 2? if not, how did you do your tests on the Active 2? I just ordered the Active 2 and now I'm worried if I should have gotten something else.
@sergiutelbisz19553 жыл бұрын
True. What I was saying is that I think the Active 2 is not very different from this Samsung product. I think basicaly they have the same sensors. My results are purely subjective, from the day to day data I saw being registered and how my body felt. Indeed I do hope Robb tests it. From what I can tell, sleepwise is that it is very good in predicting when I sleep and when I wake up but also it shows many small awake moments during night time that sometimes add up to even 1 h. And the fact is I hardly wake up during the night. I really have no sleep problems. Also sometimes I think it shows too little deep sleep. I have periods when I sleep without any movement at 49-50 heart rate and no deep sleep whatsoever. Usually it only shows like 20 ish minutes. REM wise I think it is ok. I mean in the morning if I felt that I had a really rough dream night it does indeed show more REM than usuall. I think it is a good Samsung product especially if you have a Samsung phone. I use it every day since May 2020. It is just regarding sleep that I have my doubts. I thing the algorithm might be the problem. Usually after an update it appears to shift the results a little. But hey, hope you enjoy yours and report back if you had good results. And Robb, please please test it.
@MrBogdan9983 жыл бұрын
@@sergiutelbisz1955 I have a Galaxy Watch3 and I can confirm that, in comparison to Mi Band 5, which I had before Watch3, it tracks sleep poorly regarding awake time and deep sleep time. Of course I cannot say for sure about light sleep and REM because I have no way of testing it. When ti comes to steps, I would say that the Watch3 tracks a little bit more accurately since it shows every step that i make when walking, unlike Mi Band 5 which delays step counting for several seconds and then adds 20, 30 or 50 steps to the tally which is harder to track in my opinion. That could be due to the built-in GPS in the Watch3, whereas Mi Band 5 is using your phone GPS, but I'm definately not sure about that. I am trying to be as active as possible since I was diagnosed with anxiety and panic attacks and I go for walks/runs every night before sleep, and both devices show distinct change in heart rate when I start jogging or running with the HR going from 100-110 to 160-170 bpm, so I'm not sure how accurate it is regarding the actual heart rate, but I can confirm that both show general accuracy. *A note to Mi Band 5 - there were two occasions when I would stop running and begin walking, expecting the HR to go down, but it continued going up all the way to 196 bpm which was insane, I didn't even think my heart can go that much, so there were two inaccuracies in 3 months of using. None so far with the Watch3.

I used the Samsung Galaxy fit 2 specifically for my heart rate measurement. (And it was set up to be continues.) Not sure why but that part of the watch for me was completely accurate. I tested the watch with different devices. From a hospital device (that measures saturation and heartbeat) to the people from the ambulances who had their own measurement tools. Even manually, the Galaxy fit 2 was very accurate. I believe i had 2 or 3 times where it had a couple of heartbeats wrong. But the point for me is that, let's say the watch displays 155, and it's 5 beats off, i know there is something wrong. I've had leukemia in 2009 and been through a lot already when it comes to my medical path and i know my body pretty well (after more than 15yrs. in and out of the hospital.) So i would say, if you are looking for a "cheap" watch for heartbeat/rate measuring, i think you will be good with the Galaxy Fit 2. I can't say anything about the sleep because i don't really use that feature and if your measurements show inconsistencies about REM sleep i completely believe you! 🙂 I'm going to watch a couple more of your video's. Very enjoyable to watch!

Do you have any idea why the apple watch is significantly better at tracking heart rate than other bands - even in case of high intensity workouts? Or what prevents the cheaper alternatives from reading the correct values when bpm shoots up quickly? I'm trying to understand if it's really technically hard to do or just manufacturers cheaping out. From what I've seen in your channel, even the costlier Garmin watches have abysmal hr tracking when it comes to hiit workouts. One more question: how do you export data from these apps? Thanks for doing all of this.
