+Flossy Carter Today is 4/14/16 and I'm still using the Note 4 on Sprint with the Marshmallow update. & I'm very impressed with it! I myself would usually have a new phone right about now but since there making the batteries inside the phones and taking away the IR blasters I have kind of been turned off on getting the newest of the new phones. The Note 4 is still hanging in there without even struggling.

I'd like to thank you for your reviews. (I stumbled across them while searching for a waterproof case for my future note 4.) Especially this one. I have a note 2 and love it. I also plan to upgrade to a note 4. I don't intend to go to the note 5 because I prefer to have a removable storage disk. I have learned a great deal about how to operate the Note 4. If Floss can bring a Note 4 to it's knees then we all know that he is a extreme power user. I've had my Verizon Note 4 for almost a week and I could not get my Note 4 to lag out like that. But I knew right off the bat that their stock launcher was slowing things down and it was swapped out for Nova; made a huge difference. I also turned off all the animations in the developer menu and the phone has been excellent even without root. And you bring up a good point about removing the battery. I just got the official removable battery pack from Bestbuy and I'm the type of person that swaps batteries everyday. Been doing that since the Note 2. I don't charge my phone via cable because it generates more wear and tear on the charging circuit and USB port. And like you said; rebooting does help.

Great review Flossy Carter . I just got the Note 4 today, and I do not have any issues with delay when hitting the multitask-button, seems fresh on my device. I do use Nova Launcher atm on top of the stock rom, been using it like crazy all day and no lag/stutter/app-crash so far. Been pushing it pretty hard, so pretty happy about that. Been watching your other videos to, you'r a GO man! Keep it up!

Especially if you would do something like LineageOS or a package uninstaller to get bloatware off, you could improve the speed of your Note 4 (I wouldn't do it because of certain risks). Which leads me to the question... Do you still have a working Note 4?? I have been reading about a widespread problem on inferior flash storage (which means, if you write the capacity over 300 times, the phone will die, on average within 2 years). Did you not get an MMC read failed error?

Once again, the actual user kills it again. Fuck all that frames per second review bullshit, we need to know what 99.9% of us think about, not the speed of the processor. Learned a lot in here too. E.g., I did NOT know that I could download ADDITIONAL modes for the camera. As soon as Flossy mentioned that I was online downloading ALL the modes Samsung has available. Sick!!!! Bonus Tip: Although Samsung has a "Paid Mode" category there are none. (Probably was a lousy seller.) The modes I downloaded were: Sports; Surround; Sound & Shot; Food; Animated Photo; and Sequence Shot. You get to the downloaded modes when in camera. Click "modes" and one of the options will be to click "Download." A few things for those who might want more tips and tricks. - OEM (original) Samsung battery covers are a paltry $7 on eBay. So don't worry about scratching up the back of your phone. When ready to sell your phone get a new battery cover and that part of the phone looks new. - Sellers have available different colors of the stock battery cover. So I bought one in gold and another in white. When I feel like it I swap out the color of my phone. I find that putting my phone face down lets me enjoy the gold color, for example. - To keep the edges of my phones like new I get a "bumper case" or "frame case" for the phone. Those cost about $5 on eBay. They are all made of metal and are tight fitting. I get the rounded ones because that looks best IMO and a flat gold bumper case, combined with the gold battery cover looks great. - For a variation I get the leather battery cover, in brown. That gives the phone a Coach look. - I have never used Touch Wiz launcher or shell. I use either the GO exe launcher shell, or the Line Launcher. (There's a lot of free shells on Play, but GO and LINE are the two launchers I like best.) Launchers or shells are basically a customization of your phone's interface, mainly how your Home page will graphically appear. With a shell or launcher program you can also download and use icons, wallpapers, and dramatically improve your phone's functionality to your liking. - Battery: I will NEVER get a new Samsung top line phone that no longer has a removable battery. That's a BIG deal to me and a no go. So it looks like the Note 4 is the last Samsung phone I will be getting (thank God this is a smoking phone. It is hard to imagine a phone getting better than my Note 4. After all, it is primarily a phone, not a computer). - In regards to batteries: Always buy a few spares. On eBay do NOT buy batteries from China. Odds are the low-priced batteries are FAKE. Those will crap out, not hold much power, overheat, catch fire, or even brick your phone. Only buy from U.S. sellers, who are selling genuine OEM Samsung batteries. The general rule, if a battery is $6 or less and from China, it is FAKE! A genuine Samsung battery should be from the U.S. and cost about $10 minimum. Warning: Batteries deplete and get worn out simply because they age. A battery loses about 10% of its life every years. What this means is that in 10 years a battery should be completely dead, where it won't hold a charge, or only for a few minutes. So even if an eBay seller advertised batteries as "new," that doesn't mean squat if the battery is three or more years old. A battery three years old has 70% power capacity remaining, meaning when charged 100% it will last as long as if it was charged to 70% Hope that helps. P.S. Remember what Flossy said, every morning after you wake up power your phone off, then on. That's the best way to refresh your phone and clean it out.. Whenever my friends call with phone troubles I ask "When did you reboot your phone. " They say "A week or longer ago. " I tell them to do the power off / on thing, 99% of the time the phone problem vanishes.

This amount of lag is unacceptable in a flagship phone which starts at such a high price. Samsung you should be ashamed, you should just bin Touchwiz and a start a fresh clearly something isn't working. Just bought a Tab S and already seriously regret the decision, coming from a Nexus I'm not used to this lag.

You do know that you can speed up your phone and your Tab S dramatically right? you can get rid of that Touchwiz Lag very easily. My TAB S and GN4 has been the fastest devices I've ever owned and are optimized to their full potential just by doing a few things, like Turning off the Animations, Uninstalling bloatware, and downloading apps like Clean Master and DU Speed Booster.

Joseph Zhang Yes it shouldn't, but it is, that's why people who want a Galaxy Phone or Tablet need to do their research and learn about the Animation Scales. That way they get a faster device by turning them off, or setting the Animations to .5x. All phones have some sort of lag to some degree, and I barely see at all with my Galaxy Note 2, because of of turning off the Animation scales. The Note 4 is even faster. Some people may be having problems with their device, but i'm not.

***** Yes i agree, that Samsung needs to address some of the issues with Touchwiz, but they aren't that much of a major deal. I've owned the GN2 and now the GN4, and I can say Touchwiz is far more improved than before. As for the Animation scales, when you turn them off, do you think your going to really miss them? I personally don't care for the Animations, and there for I have them turned off. I also turned off S-voice as I don't use very often. I've messed around with other phones like the HTC One m8, and the LG G3, and I got to say that my Note 4 was the best Upgrade from my Note 2. I love the S-pen, the Screen, and many of the other features. The only lag that I ever see is the recent app button, but it's only like a Second, if that bothers you, and sometimes the Camera, but 3 out of 10 times maybe, and it's not that bad at all, it still opens much faster than my GN2. Apps do open very quickly on my Note 4, so I can't complain too much about the speed. Sometimes if an app crashes, it's the app that is doing this, not the device. So you either have to uninstall and reinstall that app or just uninstall it completely.

***** I've seen some of the updates coming for the Note 4 and they are going to address some of the issues with Touchwiz, so i'm excited for those updates. Especially Android 5.0 lollipop. Even though I already have KK Launcher which gives you that vanilla Android feel.

I forgot how terrible Touchwiz was. I know it was a crappy thing with a bunch of lags. But I don`t remember it was that kind of ugly. Horrible!

The fuck? My Moto G doesn't even lag and it's a Low End-Mid Range device. This is a Flagship. This is the best of the best that Samsung has to offer. Why the fuck is it lagging more than a Moto G? I am so damned confused. Just wow.

Your Moto G has nowhere near the same number of features--no pen-support, no multi-window, no motion and gestures, no finger print scanner, no heart rate monitor, no screen mirroring, etc. Most, if not all, of these features require background tasks to be constantly running. The fact that there's occasional lag just means Dalvik has a shitty garbage collector. If you don't need any of these features, don't buy a phone like the Note 4 and enjoy your Spartan Motorola or Nexus device.

Yeah my Moto G is running Dalvik and I NEVER close out my apps. I always have at least 20 apps open at any given time. I have a Snapdragon 400 cpu and I never have lag. That is my point. I know it doesn't have all the gimmicks that Samsung includes but it sure does out perform it. That is sad.

Oh and the Moto G does have mirroring tech. If you have a Chromecast you can cast the screen.

Lucas Allen Your 20 little apps don't do shit when you're not interacting them. Services that are tied to actual hardware components always need to be able respond to interaction. They're always taking up RAM and CPU time. Outperform? LMAO! You're fucking delusional. Maybe you're phone doesn't appear to lag because it's always slow.

No it actually isn't slow. I don't think you know what a Moto G is if you think it is slow. It literally turned the low end smartphone market on end. I have a Google Nexus 7 (2013) and there is no noticeable difference. My boss (I work at Cricket) has the Note 3 and we compared and put them head to head playing riptide, Asphalt 8, Dead Trigger 2, and Nova 3 and the only thing my phone had an issue with was Nova 3. His Note 3 barely played Nova 3 but it played it. The Moto G can hold it's own.

Great review. Finally upgraded to this from an Epic 4G Touch (a galaxy s2) and it's been awesome, WAY better and faster than my GS2. Love your review too, you go into way more detail about the phone than I've seen from other reviewers and actually show features off rather than just talk about them.

Really appreciate your long in depth reviews! You highlight many things that are important to me too. I'm getting a Note 4 soon and I will tweak it without rooting it, making it faster and lag free. Also I'm not really an online warrior compared to you so I'm not so worried about lag. One comment about the fingerprint scanner (which is not a feature I care so much about), it's sort of a trade off, right? I mean a bigger button like the iPhone's would allow for just a tap instead of swipe but it would also require a bigger bezel. And since it's not even a feature I personally care about (you just have to be asleep or passed out for someone to unlock your phone) I prefer smaller bezels. But maybe I'm wrong, maybe it doesn't require a bigger button to allow for tap instead of swipe. Anyway, thanks again for another great, long review!

Just got the Note 4 on Thursday night. Thanks for the extensive tutorial and helping me understand all the awesome features. I'm one of those who will have to get used to using the Pen. I've been using android phones since the OG Droid. This is an amazing phone. Unfortunately it appears I can't root my Verizon Note 4. For the brief time I had the Galaxy S5 I was able to use Towel Root and hopefully we'll at least get something like that on the N4. Thanks again for the very helpful video.
