Most people do not understand how innovative the S-Pen is and Samsung flagship phones are. Remember Apple's best stylus is called the "Apple Pencil" and it actually needs to be charged up to work, but the S-Pen is powered by a special "field" above the screen so that you can hover select etc. People also don't know that with Samsung phones you can use Samsung Pay (using MST or Magnetic Secure Transmission technology) to pay on almost ANY credit card scanner without support for NFC payments. There are many more innovations that you get with Samsung phones that you just don't get with other phones.

I was willing to wait for the note 8 so I decided to get a note 5 temporarily... little did I know that they would offer up to 480 for my note 5 for trade in for the note 8. As well as throw in a choice between Samsung 360 cam or wireless charger and 128 gb sd card. Thank you Samsung!!!! I've had my note 8 since yesterday and I already am in love with it!!!

Not at all! People who buy the s8 can also afford the note8. Believe me, a lot of average people buy the note and never use most of its features.
@kevampatel54057 жыл бұрын
"This piece of plastic" I HOPE you weren't serious with that one. It's not JUST a piece of plastic. S Pen software is exclusive to the Note series and if you EVER used a Note, you'd know that the software alone is enough for anyone to buy the Note8. It's a completely different experience than using a normal phone with a stylus, it's not just for touch and type.
@user-dibribhsvj36d7 жыл бұрын
Kevam Patel 90% of people dont use s pen after playing with it for week or two. Seriously ive never seen people using s pen in public.
@masonjerkins59187 жыл бұрын
jun park Yeah, it's more of a niche feature. Like my aunt is a fashion designer and loved her Note 7 because it was just like a notebook, and she could realistically draw things with pressure sensitivity. The Spen was never meant to just be used casually for things you can just use your finger for, just like the apple pencil.
@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power7 жыл бұрын
Kevam Patel of course he was serious. he's not about that note life.

The S-Pen technology is NOT exclusive to the Note phone series. Samsung's had it on their tablets for awhile and now they're also making 2-in-1 laptops and Chromebooks with built in S-Pens. In fact, you can make a very good case that the Samsung Chromebook Pro is basically a giant Note with a 12.3 inch QHD screen, Android apps, a built in keyboard, 5 years of software updates ... for half the price of the Note 8.

Only downside is battery. It is not horrible but I guess I use more than others, I watch allot, surface net allot and AKG headphones are so confy but using note8 with the galaxy watch and every other device is battery draining. Other than that you all made a fantastic phone and pls keep up the good work.I will be seriously interested in a NoteX!!!

@Mizzoumike0007 жыл бұрын
Azzurro X I want the V30 badly but a few of my trusted tech sites are reporting already the panel is starting to show the same issues the gflex line had with the display . Dirty looking spots when viewing content with a light colored background, and visible lines across the display . I don't think that can be fixed at this point in production and never got fixed in the last gflex
@janskitech99667 жыл бұрын
Mizzoumike000 If I were you, I simply would wait until it's release and give it a test for yourself. I was biased in not buying the S8+ due to some reviewers. I went myself in my free time from where I buy my gadgets, tested it myself and tried more than one in the shop. They all worked perfectly, bought it and serves me well. I'm very happy and having a lot of fun with it. Give the LG V30 a try and Judge for yourself as that is the best thing imho. Hope you will be satisfied with it. Have a nice day.

I don't know i have had the S8+ since launch and have the Note 8 and i see a huge performance difference enough so that i switched to the note 8 as my main device and back-seated the S8+ as my work or secondary phone. I love both as they are great phones but over all for me and my use case the day to day use of the Note 8 seems way more fluid and less laggy. I do use the S-Pen not as much as Samsung would like certainly but to me that is not the only difference between them. I can also noticeably see the difference in brightness (the note 8 is slightly brighter than the S8+) the biggest difference for me is the size.

Great phone, just don't drop it. I'll have a look at the LG V30 before I consider the Note 8.

Is that a screen under the phone on some of the B-roll? If so, I really liked the use of it(for highlighting info and such)!

I was so happy to get my note 8 today. Then I saw a small piece of dirt under the glass. After speaking with someone in tech support I was directed to the sales department that was closed. The Samsung rep. Advised me that because I didn't buy the product directly through them I had to go through my wireless carrier. Needless to say I wasn't happy that I had to do this. I had to return it to Verizon and it's to late for them to preorder it. So I have to wait for it to contour in the store and hope I get one.

I just tried out a Note 8. It demolishes the S8+. The Note 8 feels much more secure in hand. The camera launches faster when double clicking the power button. It feels much less likely you'll smudge the camera lens when using the fingerprint sensor. It feels like the proper step up in size from an S8.

Sabahat Khan Some of us can afford more premium devices. I for one can't wait to pick my Note 8 up after work on September 15th.

that's why they're called "flagship", not budget.
@yummyhershey59027 жыл бұрын
Sabahat Khan, it's not like because these phones are selling more, that all phones are going to get expensive because there could be a lot of causes for that. If all phones for more expensive, then that would probably be due to inflation, which I think is the reason for phones getting more expensive these days. There's always going to be a budget option though, so don't freak out.

Honestly, I can't say I'm a fan of the way these reviews from The Verge are going. Don't get me wrong, Dan did a great job with this review! I just think the videos themselves are going in the wrong direction. The music is loud and distracting and made me stop paying attention to what Dan was saying. Then the purple color scheme is just kind of weird to me. I get that that's The Verge's color scheme and all, but it's just another thing to distract me from the actual review. I keep going back to your Google Pixel review which is just Dieter sitting on a chair all casually and talking, while we see some nice camera shots of the phone. I just think that's a better, more engaging way to review. It doesn't feel like a some sort of performance. It doesn't feel fake. But again, thanks for the review Dan. Your conclusion was interesting.

The S8s doesn't have a digitizer on its display so it can't register the S-pen when used on it. So calling Note8 an 'S8+ with a stylus' is technically incorrect

The Galaxy Note 8 lasts longer than the Galaxy S8+, even though it has a smaller battery. I really don't know how it's true, but it is. The screen is more efficient by far, but idk.
@darthlaan25386 жыл бұрын
Sabry Jesmy I've had the note 8 for almost a week, and been using it the entire time. The lowest the battery has been by evening for me is 50%. Of course I did disable things I don't need, about five apps, and I also dialed back the screen resolution to HD, which is more than enough for me even with my glasses on. All in all, the battery life is superb. (By the way, one thing they forgot to mention, which many reviewers do, is that the telephoto lens on the iPhone 8+ does not have optical image stabilization, while that of the note 8 does.)
@darthlaan25386 жыл бұрын
Oh, and I also have to throw in the fact that I never charge my phone over 90%. It's good for the battery.
@pilotavery6 жыл бұрын
Sabry Jesmy Still lasts longer.

Hi Verge! This is Fred. I've been posting the same concern in other reviews. I just got my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 today. And upon careful inspection at home one night, I think I have what people online are saying as "light bleeding." There's this light coming through where the glass meets metal, on the entire length of the left side. I originally thought it was normal, but the right side of the phone only had this light emanating from the upper-right corner. Have you noticed this issue with your device? For a phone this costly, I feel like this is unnacceptable. Or is this just normal and does not compromise the water-resistance of the phone? Should I return this to the store for replacement? I hope I can hear your thoughts on this.
