You should've definitely compared a few shots with scene optimizer turned on, it doesn't simply boost the saturation, it does improve overall dynamics depending on the scene.

Nice comparison Danny. In India, the price difference between iPhone 13 and S21 FE is huge (Rs. 24K ~ USD 322) so clear choice for most users would be S21 FE with bigger n better display, telephoto camera and USD 322 in bank account. Camera quality difference is not huge so an average consumer in India would go for Samsung unless he/she likes iOS.

Given that some times one camera produces darker (or brighter results), It would be very interesting to see exposure details on some of the shot comparisons. Knowing what are the shutter speed and aperture settings that were chosen by each system would bring further understanding of the results.

I would say that the scene optimizer on Samsung phones is necessary as it is on by default and most people wouldn’t think to turn it off. Also the galaxy’s really ramp up their hdr capabilities with the scene optimizer, you might have crippled the fe a bit.

Unfortunate about the noise though , and it seems a bit common in samsung camera shots , and too much night mode making some night look like day , pixels too have been a bit guilty of that last complaint too iirc. I’d rather have night look like night than a bright summers day.

This is a great work Danny. What I most appreciated is the you are one of the few content creaters who brings great unbiased content. I have no interest of these phones but it looks like S21FE needs some optimization during night still and video capture departments. With OneUI 4 the on Note20 Ultra I see noticeble improvement regarding noise on video. I hope samsung will keep up and improve night video furthermore.

S21FE photos look better, more detailed. I would never have thought that iphone13 would lag behind. But it looks like there are lots of mixed opinions, which shows we have gone quite far in camera quality and it's now more a matter of personal preferences.

Danny, love your camera comparisons. One thing -- I was a commercial, industrial, and advertising shooter for many years and we never used the term "clipping" like you do, we would say the highlights "blocked up". Happens a lot with Samsung processing, unfortunately.

I think most of us dislike over saturation and def not something I ever use on my S20U. With it on I suspect the S21FE would do less well as just too many people do not want cartoonish photos. Flat with detail and we can play around in post to change it up if needbe. The scene optimiser is just doing what we do in post on the fly.

@@andyH_England First Samsung smartphones need better focus on their cameras, and in particular in video modes. ...Including the S21 FE specially, and last year's S20 FE. Those are no Fan fones. Fans like focused cameras, like on the iPhone 13 Series. The iPhone 13 you can call a Sweet Special Fan Edition, and the Pixel 6. Looking towards next month to see if we have real competition camera and price wise.

After watching this video, I have some thoughts. 1. Galaxy S21 FE's microphone is apparently better than iPhone 13's. 2. There is not much difference between both phones in daytime photos and videos. 3. In low light situations, the iPhone is just slightly better. 4. Galaxy S21 FE's zooming capability is a clear winner. 5. When it comes to sunset photos (3:59), I wouldn't just look at the clouds. Instead, I'd look at the whole picture. The main subject, namely the boat and the stairs, looks clearer and sharper on the S21 FE, whereas the iPhone looks mushy. So although the iPhone could be said to have a better dynamic range, its overall picture quality is not great.

*photos wise both are great but iPhone has better dynamic range in photos and blanced output ,,4:02 *in Video reading its not the same as you Said in any way just look at the dynamic range diff and highlights details in his wife jacket 7:23 and kids face and cloth 7:08 ,, etc and in nighttime Video its not even comparable to iPhone Samsung is a noisy mess... (any way both are great....as you said Samsung clearly wins in zoom)

The iPhone is better but the difference is not a deal breaker for the average consumer which is where this phone is aimed at. Pro photographers will not be buying either of these so the small differences are not gonna matter as much. If you do a lot of video then the iPhone is the clear choice. I would be fine with either of these.

Comprehensive as usual and I agree with your prelude that camera-wise, the main lens, in daylight most mid range to flagships are great. So if photos during the day are mostly what you do, the rest of the package will be the decider. These are base-flagship pricing so I feel most users buying these are not pro camera users or photographers and would pay the extra for the pro models if the camera was the driver. I would be happy with either of these but in a couple of months the S21FE will be under £500 in the UK so if price is a variable then I would buy this. Of course, in Europe there are other phones in this price range that I would favour over the s21FE even at £500, eg the OP9Pro is now £550 so I would not have the S21FE on my Top 5 in that regard.

After these comparisons, I do prefer Samsung more. After using apple ecosystem for almost ten years, it just feel boring now and apple products are more and more expensive, but Samsung gives you more at the same price or even cheaper. I think that, even if iPhone's cameras are not labeled with AI, they are pretty intelligent. Galaxy usually have better dynamic range but then, we all love the sunsets and guess which phone gives you the best shot with better dynamic range? iPhone. The same for faces, there is a frames at 7:20 where the iPhone perfectly record the face of your kid but his tshirt is overexposed. Whiles Samsung, yes, the face is blown out but the t-shirt have better exposition. Btw, I love your camera comparatives, are the best. Hundreds of samples, under a lot of circumstances, using all the lenses (and the digital zoom too) and completely unbiased. Thumbs up

Iphone tones up the colors which make it look cooler, but not necessarily realistic and people love that. Samsung a little brighter in most cases and a little bit washed, but sometimes beats the iphone badly. Hard choice, but people probably will choose the phone which tones up the colors.

To turn off the scene optimizer in the Samsung is questionable. Most people will use them automatically and than the results will probably differ. Ultimately, something is done to the photos with software on all devices, Samsung also does that with the scene optimizer, for example.

In flash mode when I tap to focus, the flash doesn't blink at all in this samsung mobile. While on the any other brand whenever I tap to focus, the flash blinks for a short time to show where I am trying to focus.

In my country S21 FE 128 is 700$ and Iphone 13 128 is 936$, so not really comparable. Iphone 12 128 is 845$. The closest in price to S21 FE is Iphone 11 128gb for 693$ and that's just... wow.

4:10 iPhone dynamic range on clouds good but the samsung dynamic range on trees and grass is good, is it really the dynamic range? its becasue samsung creates a brighter image on its default thats why when you look on bright areas like the clouds its a bit over exposed and looses details but when you look on darker areas its brighter and detailed.

practically speaking- whatever phone people use..most of them gonna use their photos for insta, facebook and keep their photos inside the phone or save in laptop/mac. only very few develop these photos in frame and put on the wall. so one can choose any phone between these two unless he develops the photo on paper

I think iphone doesnt crush the shadow details, samsung has some noise too in shadow area (it's just brighter), if you go to edit and increase the shadow in iphone, I think you will get the same result. Imo blown highlights cant be saved, thats why iphone opt for darker images. But, that being said, phone nowadays have pixel look (extreme auto hdr computation, even on the default setting) idk if it's a good thing or not, you can really tell nowadays if a picture is taken from a phone, which despite all the details, ironically kinda go backwards in tech, no? Idk.
