Wow. Personal preference really plays a role here. I much preferred the Samsung shots in almost all of the samples shown. For me, "natural colors and lighting" are only preferrable in the real world where our eyes are processing the whole scene. A small cutout, or "square" of something needs a little help to make it interesting and not dull. I like my photos to pop and make the viewer say "wow, that's beautiful!" Only a photographer would look at a photo and say it has too much color, is oversaturated, or even notice a slight amount of noise. The rest of the population wants to be wowed by the picture. Take postcards for instance. How many do you think would sell if they all looked "natural." People take the ones off the rack that wow them with color and spectacularism. When I look at pictures of the places I've been and share them with others, if it was a dreary day I don't want it to replicate the dreariness of the day accurately. I want the camera to somehow cut through that and make it pop and look beautiful and enticing. And Samsung does a good job of that. Even if it is somewhat artificial, I still prefer it. I want my memories to be enjoyed by myself and others like a sweet bowl of candy that they can't get enough of. That's just my preference and that's why I would pick the Samsung hands down.
@ThroughJermainesLens8 ай бұрын
Yeah that is why I always say that with comparisons, preference is important! You can like something that I don't perfectly fine, I will mostly talk about things I have noticed and what my preferences are. But not shutting down someone's own preference. And I I get that there are people out that that want that POP in the shot, nothing wrong with that :D

@@ThroughJermainesLens You deserve praise. It's great to see someone doing brilliant reviews about the phones cameras. Cameras have become such a selling point over the last few years, but most reviews mostly bang on about all sorts of stuff and not the camera, in particular the stills. I'm not bothered about video, most will deliver something acceptable to me, if not I'll get a better visit video camera. Phones are about having an accessible camera to hand when required. I shoot full frame, APS-C, and micro 4/3. The latter gets the most (almost exclusive) use simply because of weight and portability. A great camera in a small size with larger sensor format like the latest phones such as the ultra 14 opens up the opportunity to capture reasonable/great shots with what I have in my pocket. I'll never give up using a camera, too flexible, too many creative opportunities and better quality, but being able to shoot great pics with what I have to hand is a game changer. I'm sure I'm not alone in appreciating a like minded individual taking the time to show us what we need to know and see. Hats off to you sir. 👍👍👍
@ThroughJermainesLens8 ай бұрын
@@fundamentallymartin9656 Yeah they are really becoming 1 of the key things on a phone for me as well, you can easily use phones on a daily with older chips, but improvements on the camera is where it currently is at! And talking about micro 4/3 I have heard a rumor that Xiaomi might think about that for the 16 (ultra i assume only? but of course still a rumor!) And if Xiaomi does it, I think Vivo will follow as well! Imagine that!!! And I do shoot fullframe as well if I don't forget to take it with me... which I may or may not have done when I was driving to switzerland..... yikes hahahaha And like you said, it is the flexibility of photography that is nice when it comes to a phone that has it sorted. Now again Xiaomi has things that they need to sort out! That is just where they are at currently where I don't feel like they are getting the best out of the hardware they use on it! And next to it, of course thank you VERY much for the compliments, I do really appriciate that!!!
@fundamentallymartin96568 ай бұрын
Ooh micro 4/3 on a phone would be awesome! Also heard the same rumour, that will ( potentially ) be a game changer. Companies have pushed to make the camera quality the key selling point, well they should embrace that and give us what the tech can deliver. It's a balance of what the consumer wants. For someone wanting excellent photography and acceptable performance on other things is where I am at. There is a chance for manufacturers to see there is a market for us photo fans that will accept compromises elsewhere. Of course there aren't enough of us to create a viable and visible market at the moment ( that said, they are already trying to do this manipulation to increase sales with camera performance without giving us what we really want), but channels and philosophies like yours make this more visible and more marketable. Whilst I do love the look and feel of full frame, carrying around over 2kg of kit (and the expense of quality glass) is a problem... 4/3 is acceptable for most circumstances, better than I expected, it brought back the fun in photography for me as it's truly walkabout rather than drag about. 😂 Keep up the great work Jermaine, others out there get what you give. Ignore the Samsung fans, had them, used them and moved on due to the same oversaturated images they put out and that was many years ago, they haven't changed their approach. Thank God there are alternatives, otherwise we will have an over saturated and over sharpened concept in our heads of real life from social media that has no bearing on reality... Bravo sir. 👏👏👏

@ThroughJermainesLens8 ай бұрын

Xiaomi is superb in general, just the oversharpening bit in Zoom pics is really uncalled for and not welcome! Amazing job as usual Jermaine! 😊

Yeah, shadows for me are key for a good shot, it creates depth, but Samsung... it dislikes that! BUT both need work! I do think the Xiaomi has a far better base to work on, then Samsung. And thank you of course!
@alijan2k98 ай бұрын
@@ThroughJermainesLens Totally agree with you... Yes depth feeling is what I like most in Xiaomi, which comes from not over-brightening the shadows and keeping them... However, with Xiaomi 14 Ultra, I see that sometimes shadows are even too dark; darker than those of Xiaomi 13 Ultra...plus that oversharpening: which can't be removed easily, but can be added in a second if we need!

@@ThroughJermainesLens Cool. Noted. Let's hope for some fix there... I have been using Xiaomi 13 Ultra for about 10-11 months, but I don't remember getting any Camera update... Only 1 ROM update!

The Xiaomi has an incredible camera, like incredible, the photos just tend to have a sense of depth without trying top hard! The only problems I have with it is that, it's unavailable in my country, skin tones and textures can 'off', and video performance is still tekateking. Samsung has a good camera, it's no secret they've struggled with noise in the camera, especially at night, their interpretation of the sky at night can be weird, but their 'natural' skin tones have really surprised me this year, and their saturated colours don't bother me, they've kinda toned that down a bit, but I know people who only post their photos in vivid, they have IPhones BTW, only in the vivid filter, including videos, it just looks like a unicorn threw up, but it's their preference, they like it that way
@ThroughJermainesLens3 ай бұрын
yeah I can never judge someone's preference, so I always try to look at the fact, and state what my preference is. But yeah the samsung is just weak with the weird look it creates for me, with noise even in daytime photography, that shouldn't be a thing... The xiaomi did fix a lot of the issues that I had with it, but still has some work to do for sure!

Wanna see how the Xperia 1 V performs against the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, i'm sure the Xperia will loose but still, wanna see how true to life the colors are and such. Image quality isn't always about "everything needs to be in hdr", looking at you Samsung and apple.... I think that is the Xperia is used properly even in basic mode you can achieve dynamic photos. Also in video, test s-cinetone (on/off) sdr/hdr and compare to the Xiaomi. And on when to use what or not.

I had the S24 Ultra and now the Xiamoi 14 Ultra. The Xiamoi takes much better photos and is not as dark as in the video. You should actually take a look at the phone when making comparisons.
@ThroughJermainesLens6 ай бұрын
for a fair comparison you have to look on 1 display, but without a doubt the S24 Ultra is easily losing to the 14 Ultra, BUT the 14 Ultra has parts it needs to work on. Heck the S24 Ultra loses against the Xiaomi 13 pro and Mi11 Ultra. HECK in some cases against mid-rangers like the Vivo V30 and v30 pro

OK. What I'm about to write is based on viewing the video on my phone (so I can't actually see any noise for example): I think Samsung actually crushed the Xiaomi here. With some very few exceptions, Samsung's results looked much better. I do *not* like excessive contrast in daylight photos and Xiaomi always delivered much darker photos with far too strong shadows. Yeah, sometimes that's a good thing, but I prefer the other approach: give me brighter shadows. If I want them darker, it's easier to darken shadows than lighten them up. Samsung's biggest issue here is the usual yellowish tint and oversaturation. They clearly use the "we'll give you an already edited photo for Instagram" results and that's not always the best thing to have. As you know, I would never buy either phone. But if I had, based on THIS video... I'd have sold the Xiaomi, not the Samsung 😅
@ThroughJermainesLens8 ай бұрын
Honestly when it comes to preference you can never argue over that, if you like a brighter shot or less contrast, then that is your preference and perfectly fine haha, I am here to show the difference haha. For the effect on Samsung, yeah probably best way to describe it. Instagram shots, and I don't like that haha, I like natural more contrasty cinematic shots ^^

Photos are better on Xiaomi but a bit too dark for my liking. I'd prefer it to be a bit brighter. The saturation reverses on video. Samsung is better here. Xiaomi's video has the Samsung look with colours similar to Samsung's photos and overbright video. Your skin colour in particular looked way different than usual on the Xiaomi video. Personally, wasn't overly impressed by either. Would prefer something in between for photos
@ThroughJermainesLens8 ай бұрын
Honestly i van understand that:) good thing is that via EV adjustment which is just straight there you can adjust it, and for more saturation and less dark shadow vibrant is a great option^^

@@ThroughJermainesLens Thanks. For me i think I'll probably settle for an entry level flagship instead. Maybe something like the Nubia z60 ultra, oneplus 12, Xiaomi 14, Oppo find x7 or Vivo x100 or I might wait for the next generation of these models in October/November. The more I see of these ultra phones the less I feel like they are worth the extra cash over the entry level ones especially with the entry level models improving their zoom this year. Maybe with the exception of the Xiaomi 14 (which is a bit weaker for long range zoom) even the others I mentioned have quite good zoom up to at least 6-7x now with the OV64b periscope.

I think xiaomi looks too cinematic/ contrasty with too dark parts in photos and i dont like it when it does that and i prefer the lightened shots from Samsung but i dont like the sharpening on the Samsung but i would still pick Samsung idk.. the photos look more pleasant to me .. on xiaomi i struggle to see all parts of the photo because it looks too dark.. And about the noise in daytime shots with the Samsung i really couldn't see the noise in the photo u showed when u were talking about it If theres a critical mistake Samsung does i think its the bokeh effect.. it cuts the object in a way it looks cuted bu hand and sometimes it cuts big parts near the main subject and blurs them out and they get lost in the bokeh.. , it didn't happen in the shots in this video but I've seen it a lot in othet s24u shots.
