Each year, Samsung releases two smartphones separated by roughly six months: one a mainstream flagship, the other an overpowered phablet. These are the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note, respectively, and though they target materially different types of consumer, we nonetheless directly compare them every single year. That's because there's a significant amount of bleedover interest when you get to this level of features and cost: people who don't really like large phones may nonetheless consider the Note 4 for its added features, just as those who really don't like compromise may find themselves drawn to the smaller Galaxy S6 for its reduced footprint. (And to those who say that it's somehow unfair to compare the two due to the six-month release pacing -that we should really be comparing the S6 with the forthcoming Galaxy Note 5- not to worry: we'll get to that eventually, just like we always do.)
This year's comparison -Galaxy S6 vs Galaxy Note 4- is a little easier thanks to amplified similarities and disparities across these latest models. While the cameras and displays on this year's handsets are quite similar in terms of resolution and day-to-day performance, there's a vast technical gulf lying between them. While a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor powers our version of the Galaxy Note 4, the newer Galaxy S6 features Samsung's own Exynos 7420. That doesn't have much bearing on real-world usage (which is why we barely mention it in the comparison narration), but the expandable memory and removable battery on the Note 4 gives it a pronounced edge over the sealed-up Galaxy S6. And then, of course, there's the S Pen stylus.

***** I found 4 reasons why s6 is lower grade to fit the masses less the tech savvy. Bigger 1440p removeable battery. Sd support ..2tb I believe is something I don't want to pass on. And I'll add OTG is again something I hear people try to validate with said loss on s6 and that's you'll be carrying battery pack (external) so who want to carry all that extra stuff? Lol. Especially since the reason of putting glass on is a waste while most cover the phone with case. So most won't know your phone is glass and assume it's just an s5 or s4 unless you yell "hey look I have an s6 with a case on it" another reason is battery life. It should increase with each model not decrease. That it did. S5 outlasts it. Lol. The processor is nice but overkill. Considering lollipop relies on way less recourse. Hell mid ranges in real world use are working just as well ..hmmm. even iPhone with dual. Anyway I can really go on and on. Most that already bought the s6 are going to whine about it. It's all good. I don't argue or respond so take this and form your own opinion. 2 years you'll have this. I chose to stick with note 4. I'll buy the lg g4 and maybe note 5 if they don't drop the ball like s6..cheers bro. Enjoy whatever you choose.

Agreed! My wife has the S5, so too does my mother in law. They're absolutely brilliant. I had the utterly brilliant and ever versatile Note 3 until today, replacing it with the Note 4, obviously. I beg Samsung to continue to make the Note as they currently do, only next time could we have a water/dust resistant Note, as with the excellent S5. What Samsung did with the S6 was turn the Swiss Army knife into just a penknife by removing the SD card, removable battery and water resistant features. Samsung owner's love Samsung for their productivity not their looks!

Mostly people will prefer Galaxy S6 but the normal things like a bigger and user replaceable batter, SD card expansion and more screen real state is your thing, Note 4 is the best buy out there!

I must say that I just switched from a note 3 and passed on the 4 for the s6 edge. Absolutely no regrets. I actually run an eBay business and i find the functions of the s6 edge so much more useful. Understand I am on the go a lot and often use my phone one handed so the smaller screen is beneficial to my needs. I also need speed to research items faster amd the fingerprint log in is amazing. Now I loved the idea of the s-pen but found myself never using it however I also receive a ton of notifications and find the edge side bar a blessing as I can check offers and especially te time without having to fully turn the screen on. The S6 edge is a beast for people who are very active and don't have time to sit and play with the s-pen. Just thought I would share my opinion.

My son has my Note 4, I have an s6 edge, I prefer the edge, he prefers what I gave him because of the s pen. I want a phone with a beautiful screen, good display and nfc, wireless charge. We're both happy. There is a lot of choice today. I'm old enough to remember the Motorola c350 phones nearly 20 years ago! We've come a long way since then...thank god.

Usama Muhammad really fast phone! Samsung tone down touchwiz skin so it dosen't have any lag! Probably one of the best cameras i used on a smartphone. Feels good in your hand . The battery life is alright and it gets me through the day and it charges really fast! It doesn't last as long as the Note 4 but it's good enough. Overall, its one of the best phones i ever bought

I am a phablet junkie. Currently I'm rocking the att note 3 and love it especially with the lollipop update. I do have to say that the updates in the s6 are VERY attractive: finger print sensor, "scaled back TouchWiz", theme engine, and build quality. I think personally I will wait for the note 5.

Note 4 is sick Battery + Charger works like a Charm I use a AKG Y45BT for my Note 4 to React on Calls while on the Bicycle.(or Music) It even helps saving extra Energy of the Battery. I need only 5% for Music & everything for the whole Day. + The Charger takes only 5 Mins to recharge 15% of the Battery. You dont even FEEL the the loss of Energy anymore. And you always have 5 mins left, even if your about to get a Train/Bus/Flight. Or you just find a Energy Source for only 5 Minutes.

The Tree I have to agree with the others. I already have a tablet; I want something I can use with one hand. The s6 is perfect for me. The only things I can complain about are the battery life, the glass back (like the Nexus 4, it slips off everything), and whatever Touchwiz they did leave on it. I'm coming from a Nexus 5, though, so the battery life is manageable for me; I'm not a 'road warrior', whatever that means.

Also the S-Fitness and the Pedometer are the most accurate I have used. I have tested it many times by counting my steps myself and the pedometer is always spot on. The new S-Fitness features are nice too with the addition of the leaderboards and daily average with all time highs as well.

In my life I used several phones...I used samsung galaxy s4,s3,lg g3,Iphone 4s,Iphone 5 and now I bought note 4.Well one thing that I can say surely is that the NOTE 4 owned all of them...I'm completely proud with my choice of a phone...Buy Note 4 and you will never make mistake.

The Note 4 is optimized for LTE speeds. I live in western PA close to Pittsburgh and I get 28.5 mb/s down and 13 mb/s up on the basic LTE speeds. I can watch youtube, Netflix and stream music through google plus music all day with no buffering. Definitely the high point of the phone for me. I could make a long list of the other features that make me a Note 4 fanatic but if your someone who has a Note 4 you know what I mean. Until the Note 5.....

It costs about 350 online, so it is kinda worth it. Though you could get a moto x pure for the same money. If you really care a bout a fingerprint sensor and a removable battery, then go for the note. If you want better performance, design/build quality, and battery life, go for the moto.

Freddie Morales Hace 2 minutos I love the Note line but I give a try to the S6 and I'm completly happy with it. I used to be a Note owner and at first used the S Pen. Then I never used again. The bigger screen is awesome but when you get the S6, is not a dealer breaker bc the S6 screen is fabulous. Another thing move me to choose the S6 is the non-bloatware Touchwiz. Wao! Is amazing how thing go better with a simple UI with the necesary stuff you need and download the ones you want. Personally my S6 battery is not as good as a Note 4 but it works for me. And with an adaptaer, I got my expandeble memory in my keychain. You won't be wrong with either phones. Personally I hate Qualcomm's CPU and I really loves the Exyno's CPU in my GS6.

I was gonna buy the S6 but when I was at the store the guy from there told me the Note 4 and s6 specifications and basically we come to the conclusion that the Note 4 has more advantages than the s6, so I bought the Note 4 and I'm loving it! I would highly suggest S6 ! Look dude , i know it doesnt have a SD card slot neither a removable battery but if you are that much serious keep an OTG cable and a sd card reader! For the Battery get a power bank ! But believe me , the camera and the interface and Touchwiz is far more superior on S6 than the Note 4 ! Dont forget the Insane display on S6 !

The reason i bought the edge is due desing just beautiful period. For content and productivity hands down the note, for style comfort the S6 .I agree the choise its about your use. The lag on my Note 4 used to wind me up, don't get those issues on the edge. Note 4 was a cracking phone but enjoying the size of the 6 edge better. Will sell my Note 4 on now. Only have to look at that speed test video on here to see, the note 4 was over 22 seconds slower overall. I tried it myself reset my note 4 so it was clean and it just bogs down and can't keep up.

I love my Note 3 and the only reason I didn't go for the Note 4 is because I'm hoping the Note 5 will have carry-overs from the S6 like the enhanced fingerprint scanner, Exynos chip and wireless charging. Even if it's essentially an S6 with a bigger screen and S Pen, I'll be happy.

Let's be real. If you're a tech guy that's willing to pay to play, you'll upgrade to the s6, and still have the note 4 (maybe). The note 4 is a great device, but the s6 is irresistible because it is the best phone out right now. The whole I'll wait for the Note 5 or S7 is BS, just because you don't want to drop the green, or can't, shouldn't matter.

I'm getting the Note 4 and damn the size difference. I'll get a holster case and wear it on my belt. I don't want a phone in my pocket regardless of its size. The Note is not as big as it looks in this video due to the close ups needed for the review. It's more practical and I don't like not being able to add storage. Out of the box, both of my note 4 units lagged constantly AFTER turning off over 50 apps. Facebook lags when scrolling badly. Same with the Google Play store. Load issues. Keyboard lag. Etc. I've owned every Galaxy S and Note series smartphone/Phablet. My S6 is the best Samsung has ever done in terms of smoothness and performance. That's a fact.

actually I find the action memo and smart select features extremely useful, for action memo my use is very basic, just to write a name down(I'm not particularly good with those) or something short, Smart select I got used to using a lot, most times I take regular screen shots I don't want to show the whole page and before owning the note 4 I would go through the trouble of cropping them through the edit feature, smart select saves me a lot of time with such matters.

I don't see where everyone agrees that the note 4's battery life is great. I had a note 4 and the battery lasts 4 hours the most when I'm really using the device, and that's only at 50% brightness. I always carried three battery packs, the battery charger, and a power bank whenever I took my phone out somewhere. I sold the note 4 for the s6 and what an improvement in software. I felt cluttered with the note 4, as if I wanted more room for all the s pen features even though the phone is already so big and hard to handle. The s6 is the best smartphone I've had so far, and though the battery can only compare with the note 4, it really all comes down to practicality. And speaking of practicality, I don't think that anyone will be using the Samsung touch wiz themes anytime soon. Most likely a launcher, but definitely not a theme with what they give you.

I was really torn by the two but I had decided to buy the S6 Edge. I like the S6 not because of its new look but has the new chip. But I like the Note even more because of its Note taking capability is beyond anything. Im buying the S6 next week and when the Note 5 come (with better chip) I will sell my S6. :)

Nexus 6 : 5 inch display on Nexus 5 (sweet spot for device display size) , just because it was going to be called nexus 6 they didn't have to bump it to 6 inches , could have tried an apple like strategy. Nexus 9 : Its an HTC device in name only, the disappointment of not having HTC's USP of premium designed hardware with a higher price point that did it in.

x360NoVaZz I think it's great. Sometimes the big screen gets annoying as I often needs assistance from my other hand to click somehting that my thumb can't reach. But ostly it's great, I like big screens, and I haven't had any technical problems with it except it sometimes say it can't find my sim card, but it may be my sim card itself that is stupid, not the phone (new sim card as well).

CosminKit 25 HD C'mon man, I have the use of a Note4 at my disposal all the time. Why is it when someone had something or is a fanboys of a product they don't admit the truth? I owned the Note2, and Note3 so I have plenty experience with Samsung. I'll admit the Note4 is much better than they were, but it still has LAG, it still stutters, and I know this as fact. I quit buying Samsung because of the horrible experience I had with the Note2 & 3. And it was immediate I saw signs of that in the Note4. Obvious those things are not that important to many people and that's fine. For me, that's the very most important thing when it comes to my phone. The Note4 has many things better than my M8. But what's most important it does not. My M8 is super smooth and fast, I love the more clean professional look to the M8. I'm not trying to be a jerk, just my opinion, but the look of Samsung devices look childish in many ways. Talking about icons, and built in apps. You're happy with you're choice, I'm happy with mine, and that's all that matters. I do want a bigger screen, as I'm used to having 2 phones. So I am looking forward to see what LG does with the G4 or Samsung does with the Note5.

I love my note 4, got it a few weeks after it came out, had the note 2 before, I pray they don't make the note 5 like the S6 I need my extra storage, and replacement battery. It's very light, I fear glass will be heavy, I use a case so don't want even more weight, back is easy to remove, and it's still fast for me, tho if playing a lot of games it does slow down a bit, I restart it and it's fast again, I restart it about twice a month (just because) even with a case it's super light. Had to use a case because it weighed to lottle, forgot it was in my pocket multiple times!

Just sold my Note 4. Amazing phone. But iPhone is more consistent in every day use. Note 4 is to bulky to carry around, on a day off if I'm lounging about the house it's fine but if I was out and about its just annoying. Pocket ability and 1 handed use is more important to me. (Everyone is different) Likes iPhone 6: size, consistent performance, Siri, lightning charger, EarPods, look and feel in hand, Camera, Text Prediction, App performance (Not at the moment mind you). Fingerprint Sensor, Mute Switch, Slow Mo Video, IOS in general. Reachability, Samsung Galaxy Note 4: Screen, removable Battery and battery life, memory card expansion, stylus, Look of handset, Rear Camera, Downloading Movies, Lollipop Update, Fast Charging, Watching Media is really nice, Front Facing Camera. Verdict: Samsung could be so much better, the software lets them down, Samsung has better specs on paper but my experience with the iPhone 6 and The Note 4 proves otherwise. The iPhone 6 is a solid performer over the Note 4 apart from some app crashes since 8.3. Both very good handsets. Which 1 you prefer will be your choice and your opinion. For me it has to be the iPhone. I just don't like lag, the Note 4 doesn't do it a lot but it does do it. As for the iPhone I've been noticing a lot , and I mean a lot of crashes (apps) since 8.3 update. This should be hopefully addressed with 8.4 (fingers crossed)

Battery life on my note 4 is outstanding. I last a whole day on heavy use and gaming. Not to mention expandable battery and storage. Note 4 ftw
