Here for the same exact reason. Wanted the features of the Note 7, so I got the S7 edge. But now I'm considering buying a used Note 5 until the next 'Note' is released. Waterproof, sd slot, camera are the biggest reasons holding me back. Sucks so much. Plus, I'll get to keep the Note if I buy it, whereas the edge I'll have to trade it in after paying off half of it. Assuming I don't break it.

i say go with s7 edge , honestly when you hold both of them in hands , its kinda hard to tell a difference in size , 5'5 vs 5'7 not a huge difference , either way both phones are excellent , you can't go wrong with either of the two .

I got the regular S7. I don't like curved screens. Anyway, these days I tend to prefere large phones, so I was considered to buy the Note 5 due to its larger size, but I ended up getting the S7 for its newer hardware and camera. Yes, the Edge variant may have a larger screen than the S7, regular model but it is out of consideration for me, since is a curved-edged, and for me, that it's not OK. I don't need a display that distorts graphics among the edges? Wha's the logic? S7 regular should had 5.5'' too.So, by far, for me, the Note 5 is best looking, nice bezels, not that rounded, nice proportions on upper and bottom sides.

I have one too. Beautiful phone but I have 1 problem with it. Because the sides are so thin due to the curved screen you tend to inadvertently press things that you dont want to press.

They're both awesome phones. I just purchased the Note 5 because of the S Pen. I also got the OtterBox Defender case and took out that cheap plastic screen protector. I have the Zagg Invisible Glass Shield for my screen protector. I love it!

I had a toughest time deciding. switching back and forth. Almost went with S7 edge because of camera, battery life, water proof, SD card, beautiful screen, and free gear VR. Finally went with note 5 64gb because of S-Pen. I am not a S-Pen heavy user but I really love the S-Pen functionality enough to let go of all the great things that come with S7 edge.

Well done. The difference for me comes down in VR. With the S7 Edge's being liquid cooled over heating does not appear to be an issue when viewing VR content. Samsung really hit the VR sweet spot with this phone and the Gear VR. Can you post a reviewing the S7 and the Gear VR?

They put a lot of emphasis on the way the phone feels in your hand, curved edges so it fits better, ergonomic grip and whatnot, gorgeous gorilla glass on the back.... and then I remember, I've had a case on my phone since day 1 and none of that matters in the slightest.

Great review & video. One thing not mentioned, however, is the issue mentioned elsewhere of the Edge's "edge" leading to unwanted contact and clicks especially with one-handing. Also, what about charging, and sound quality for actual phone conversations?

Hi Krystel, nice review! though I would advice you to keep the phones always on the same side and not switching them between left and right. This will make it a lot easier for the viewers to focus on the differences between the phones, because to start with, the differences are already hard to see at a glance.

Current Note 5 user, the S7 Edge is very tempting. I like the added SD slot, better camera module, larger battery and curved screen. I'm going to wait on the Note 6 though. Fingers crossed we get an even larger battery with the return of the SD card slot...

The S7 (edge) have system wide equaliser. When used correctly, the S7 Edge will sound louder than the Galaxy S6 (idk about Note 5), but with the same amount of detail and A LOT MORE bass.

I have a Note 5 and after watching this video, I think I'll stick with it. I don't take low light pictures and I transfer them to the laptop regularly so I don't need an SD card. I'm not someone who does heavy usage so my battery always lasts the entire day so it doesn't make much sense for me to switch. Thanks for the comparison between these phones. Although, I noticed you had a negative opinion about the speaker being on the bottom. I love that. It's why I stayed with Note 3 and never got a Note 4. When playing music, or more importantly at night when I play my white noise app... I like that I can lay the phone flat and still hear music clearly. When the speaker is on the back like with a Note 4 or S5, it has to be propped on something otherwise the sound is muffled.

eednarb I agree had the note 4. the speaker at the bottom was huge issue for me. S7 Edge Has lower brightness and lower speakers for power users. it just feels like every other phone while the note 5 feels like a note book. also note 5 lasts me a whole day at moderate usage. thats enough for me.

You said the Note 5 has a bigger sensor size. The sensor size is the same. But the Note 5 has more pixels on that same sized sensor. The S7 Edge has bigger sized, and less pixel sensors on that same sized sensor.

My Note 5 gets around 7 to 8 hours on screen time but that's because I tweaked it using package disabler pro and switched to Nova Launcher Prime. With the package disabler pro app I disable all bloat ware apps that I don't use and as a side note I don't use any app kindling apps or ram managers as Android 6.0.1 manages ram pretty good so far. My Note 5 also don't need to redraw apps as often as it did with Android 5.1.1 as it was pretty bad at ram management. Overall I like the new S7 lineup they're great devices but I love that S-Pen and bigger screen but with what they're doing with the S7 lineup I'm sure the Note 6 will be very promising and I can't wait I already want one.

You got to remember that you're comparing Android 5.1 on the Note 5 and Android 6.0 on the S7, so performance will matter and especially RAM management.

Thank you for this very informative video. I had two of the Note 7's (original and replacement) I had to trade back in for a new phone and went back to a Note 5 (what I had before the Note 7. I was going to go for the S7 edge...still have the option to turn back in as I haven't reached the 2 week period yet. I'm still wondering if I should get the s7 edge..the low light camera is a huge pull, but I'd miss my S pen. And, I think the S7 edge processor runs a lot smoother than the Note 5. I noticed a huge difference from my Note 7 going back to the Note 5. So disappointed to have to give back my Note 7. What should I do people??? Go back and trade to the S7 edge??? +drsnowmon Yep. Auto focus on the S7 Edge is so darn fast. It just so happend that at work, a colleague of mine and I tried to shoot pictures of another colleague. The iPhone 6S Plus he had, kept making blurry pictures, while my S7 Edge only made perfect sharp, in focus pictures (in-doors, poor lighting).

Lastly, I tested both cameras. It is the brightness settings...also if it is dark...use the flash. Strange how the majority of users prefer the Note 5....and reviewers prefer the S7. Wonder if they are sponsored?

I have the S7 Edge and recently bought my mother the Note 5. I'm really contemplating trading my phone for the Note 5. I think the S Pen and bump in screen size is much more usable than the curved screen which I find more annoying than anything. Unfortunately, the lack of SD card slot is likely going to be a deal breaker for me. Also it's nice to have the waterproof rating on the S7.

Hopefully that is what we will get later this year in the Note 6 with the same overall design, maybe with curved screens again, bigger battery, new camera et cetera.
