Tablet's are a "luxury product". You don't really need them, as phones offer more mobility, while more serious tasks are much better on a laptop.

I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 12.2 and love it. BTW the speakers on it are towards the top. In this instance use the hand cup method for the speakers. I'd like to see front firing speakers with orientation awareness.

For those who have the 8.4 inch version, how is it for reading ebooks and long articles? Would a 7 inch tablet be better like the Galaxy Tab 4 or is the 8.4 inch comfortable for reading? That high resolution screen on the 8.4 sounds like the text would look beautiful.

I have the Titanium Bronze 8.4" in 32GB and can't say enough about how good it is. Battery life is great, until you start games up but that is true with all all phones and tablets. The screen is incredible, love it and also the build quality and form factor of it is exceptional. It was expensive, however being the tight ass I am with spending money I have zero regrets about buying it, which to be honest when I realised that a while ago, it surprised me as I am hard to please and picky as hell.

Hey Jack, you should be most interested in the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, which should sufficiently beat this into submission for what you use it for, especially battery life.

Ive been using this for almost a month now. The screen is incredible and Ive been actually rewatching some of my favorite movies on it and i got a 55" Panasonic flagship plasma in my living room, its that good. The Exynoss processor is the weakest link in this tablet. It definitely lags when loading a little heavier sites and pushing all that 2560x1600 resolution a Snapdragon 805 would have been a much better choice. Its definitely an amazing for media consumption but lacks in processing power.

I have the galaxy tab 3 10.1" and I like it. The battery life could be a bit better and there are a couple of other minor gripes but I love it for watching videos without having to use a computer or kill my phone battery (which is why i bought it). I like the new tab S and if the price comes down a bit I'll definitely upgrade

I have a Samsung Tab 3 8.0. Very very good IMO for its price. Still super fast even with 94% of my 16GB used. If I had the chance and money, I would definitely get the S 8.4. Can't go wrong with Samsung IMO once again...

If you live in the US or Canada, I recommend hangouts dialer for your TAB S, which has free calling inside the US and Canada, so free phone! I don't know if you can add your phone number so that any calls can be answered on your TAB S, but it's still pretty cool.

i love my google nexus 7. i read all my comics on it. i even got a 10.1 inch tablet thinking it would be better to read on and its just to damn big(she never says that) but i do want an 8 inch tablet i was thinking about getting the Nvidia shield tablet

When I was looking for a tablet I was contemplating the nexus 7 but I went with the 8.3inch LG G Pad, It has a micro SD slot that supports up to 64GB, the screen in my opinion is the perfect size for comics/manga. It's also surprisingly cheap, I definitely recommend it

I'm replying to you on my shield tablet and watching this video on it as well and I love it. The size of the screen is perfect and so is the resolution, anything bigger and its not good. You should get it because its cheaper than an iPad which is a glorified iphone.

I personally need a large screen to read all of my books on, and a phone is just no replacement. I am not about to go with a kindle fire either, so this tablet is looking pretty good besides the speaker placement.

I have both Nexus 7s, I prefer the 2013 version, and I may get the nexus 8/9 (or whatever it'll be called) when it comes out. The Tab S is tempting, it looks like it has a nice screen, and actual extra storage... But I've found I have never once needed more storage than my nexus tablets provide. Maybe I will in the future. Sticking with my nexus 7 for now :)

Tablets where always to expensive for me but i managed to get me a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 for 50% less the price and my opinion of it is that it is GREAT!! Snappy, good looking and the screen is awesome. BTW say Linus hi from Poland Eh :)

I would love this tablet but it just doesn't match my budget as a student. I currently own a Galaxy Tab 3 which has been perfect. I mainly use my Tab 3 for media consumption. I have a surface RT for school. I do not play games on mobile at all.

I have the exact same opinion on tablets as you do Jack. If I'm going to carry a slate in my pocket, it might as well be a smartphone. Why carry something bigger than can only perform half the capabilities that a phone can? Having said that, I do have an Asus T100 and it doubles as a laptop. I will only buy a tablet if it's running a full OS like Windows and has a keyboard dock. Android tablets are out of the question. I can't justify using Android on anything other than a phone. If productivity is what I'm after, windows is what I'll use.

Well... Since i would be coming from my LG G pad 8.3, which is still packing the best 1920x1200 screen on a tablet ive seen, its build is nice with an aluminum back, and almost completely stock android experience along with LGs own pairing software, its hard to beat. If the samsung tablet used better materials and had a more near stock android experience, i would buy it in no time flat, otherwise Nvidias SHIELD tablet is more to my liking.

I don't think I would carry a tablet around. I have a 5.7 inch screen on my phone for that. I'm a die hard pc user so I don't think it would get a ton of use at home either. I don't see myself getting a tablet in the foreseeable future. Although that side sink feature is totally freakin awesome.

I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro, and it is definitely better at what it is for than my phone, a Lumia 925 (I'm kinda a fan of Windows 8). I only paid about $350 for it and a case, keyboard, and stylus, and it has real x86 Windows 8. So no, I wouldn't switch to the Samsung at that price, actually, I'm convinced that with Windows 8 there is no longer a place for Android tablets except the Shield; and using the stylus, any future tablet I buy will have to have a stylus, ruling out the iPads.

i had an ipad mini a year back and it only lasted me for a month or two. the only reason i sell it because its boring. premium feel and fluidity is nothing if it can only offers you limited apps. for me Android id the future of the tablet, customizability matters. tab S is only the beginning, not to mention Nexus 8 is just around the corner with almost half the price of ipads with a tons of power and great customization.

Only Android tablet worth looking at (in my opinion) is the Lg G Pad 8.3. Its cheap, very portable, decent specs (Snapdragon 600 and 2GB RAM), micro sd slot, 1080p screen. All for $279.99.

I still don't see any tablet being better than iPad Air. Don't get me wrong, some of the "specs" are better, like the SD slot. But it's never as fluid as the iPad. iPad Air lacks a lot of features that are standard in Android. Also, hardware does matter. I have the Samsung 12.2 Note Pro and it blows the iPad Air out of the water in terms of applications, productivity, power and customization options. The cable of the Apple iPad Air, like he says, is a rip off. Why couldn't Apple just use the standard? Answer: because they couldn't sell you an overpriced proprietary cable if they did that. I still cannot believe iPads have no expandable storage. Unbelievable.

***** I can't agree that the iPad ecosystem is amazing. I don't think it is. The OS is restrictive and the hardware isn't where it should be in 2014. Even the iPhone 6, which I thought might be the phone that makes me try Apple, is introducing features that I had on my HTC in 2012. Unfortunately, with Jobs gone it seems Apple no longer innovates like they once did.

As an 50% Android (BBOS10 for the other 50%) user on my phone and in the past tablet, I can only say that iOS is indeed a better option for tablets compared to Android. However, I have been using Android tablets for quite some time because I need file management. Btw, I'm using a Surface Pro now, and I consider Windows 8 to be superior to iOS for tablets. I don't really care about games. If you do, then iOS is indeed the way to go. Unless you need certain functionality that isn't included on iOS, which leaves Android as your only option... I'd love to buy a Samsung Tab S of Pro specced 8" tablet on Windows 8...

Seriously, I sometimes think Apple has a workforce of shamans and magicians that make some people believe fanatically that Apple's lower spec, more expensive stuff are better; or more "fluid", etc. Yeah, these people like you say stuff like: "complaining about cable? really?". Damn right you should complain about the cable where an apple cable is $25 where a normal USB cable is $5. It is supposed to be a "UNIVERSAL STANDARD" Bus, why do you think Apple sells their unique head version? Reflects the rest of Apple mentality perfectly: we ask for developers $100 just to be able to develop to iOS.. why? because we can. We have USB cables we sell for $25.. why? because some fanatics will buy no matter what we sell and even defend us. I have an original iPad mini, I would defiantly trade. The tab S has a better display, it is faster, has expandable storage and it's cheaper. Why Apple, why. Don't get caught in the Apple fantasy world as I did, there are many better devises out there. I love Samsung now after I have woken up
