just to be clear, in clip studio theres almost no lag, the reason why it appears to have lag on your video is because you have "Stabilization" ON, that makes your draw slower but more perfect. if you turn off this feature, you will see how smooth clip studio works on the galaxy tab s8 ultra.

Small note on Krita - you can disable touch drawing and this is what you probably should do if you consider using Krita seriously. I personally disable touch rotation as well but that's preference. As for using the tab as a drawing tablet for windows - I would strongly suggest looking into SuperDisplay - this has been something that I have mentioned in Brad's comment section a few times (I think) - it is what Astropad is in comparison to SideCar - cable has no latency, wifi is just better, the drivers for pen and touch input are fantastic!

I know for Krita you can turn of touch drawing on a Windows PC Tablet and imho is this the most important tablet feature of a drawing app. Do I understand your comment correctly that this is also possible in the Android Version? That would be for me THE argument to buy it, wouldn't like to use a "palm suppression" which is not working 100.00%.

As you showed, it will attach at other places along the top edge, but it only gets a strong hold in that one spot. For some reason :s I'm glad it's there though, it's more convenient than the rear magnet for frequent use.

Hey Brad 😁 thanks for this review, once I heard about the ultra I began anticipating your video. It is a nice tablet, but I am still in love with my S6 lite. I actually don't like the size of the ultra - I lean more towards 'traditional' on paper/canvas when I'm creating so I only use my S6 to rough draft or draw once or twice a week. You're right, this tablet is for some but not for me at this time is my art journey. I cannot thank you enough for this review bc I feel most consumers are 'apple heads' when it comes to tablets and often miss what Android has to offer. Great content as always!!!

I have an S6 and an S7+ and there's a very clear divide between them in that I bring the S6 with me a lot - drawing at the coffee shop or whatever - but the S7+ is my current substitute for a pen display and mainly sits at home. I think in the case of the latter this one is a no-brainer upgrade, but for on the go stuff I definitely think it would be too much of a hassle.

I bought an S6 Lite because of Brad's reviews as well and think the size is just perfect. Maybe a bigger screen would be better if that's your only drawing device but I already have a PC at home for that and the S6 Lite is something I use to draw at work/when I don't have access to my PC. 1000% didn't regret buying this tablet, especially with how CSP works great with it!

Originally, all I was looking for was a portable monitor that I can use with my laptop for work purposes at locations other than my home. I'm a 3D animator. Then I came across monitors with touchscreen and thought might as well add an extra feature. Then I saw one that you can draw on with a stylus (not a dedicated drawing tablet). So I thought of getting a drawing tablet that will double as a 2nd monitor. This is when I also started watching your videos for reviews. And finally I saw the S8 Tab Ultra which can do all of the above but close to the size I wanted as a 2nd monitor. Originally, I wanted a 15.6". So I decided to preorder it since Samsung also has a 0% installment plan. I know it's waaay more expensive than a drawing tablet but at the same time, it's more compact than the drawing ones as they have thicker bezels and buttons, AND the S8 is stand alone. When I travel, I can bring this out at the airport or on the plane instead of my laptop as it's smaller and lighter, not to mention, if I feel like drawing something I can with this, versus my laptop.

Hi, what are the softwares you are using for your drawing routine? How is the machine works with you after 8 months now? I am iPad mini 5 user with Apple Pencil. I spent quite many approaches to adapt my desktop photoshop workflow into it. I still couldn’t get comfortable with it. The most I have patience was Sketching in black n’ white only. I am looking at this S8 which potentially could bring over my desktop photoshop workflow into this larger screen tablet. Procreate is not really making me happy to draw. Standby time us FANTASTIC. This guy can go about a week on standby and be just fine. The screen is massive so the longer you have the screen on, brightness especially, it will effect battery life. I am very happy with it though!One thing that I didn't consider is that since the screen resolution is so high, viewing ticktocks/ reading webtoons can be slightly blurry. There is no way to turn down resolution either, so it just be like that.Would still judge this bad boi at 10/10 for my first tablet. Finally, this was the review of this tablet I was looking for. I saw a bunch of reviews on this tablet but all of them were from the perspective of people who only use it for things like watching videos, social media and regular productivity apps. As someone who uses my tablet to draw, make 2d animations, and videos, it feels like there is a much greater value to the tablet than to an average user. This review covered a lot of the things I wanted to know like differences in drawing apps and how smoothly they run, s pen latency while drawing, the 2nd Screen feature with windows, etc. I want this tablet sooo bad now.

I really really love how Samsung's s pen doesn't need to be charged to be used. The review I've been waiting for! Seen a bunch of reviews already (and already preordered), but yours is the opinion I respect most, especially for what I want to use this for - most other reviewers focus on tech specs and gaming. Super excited for your Second Screen video, would love to know if this can replace my Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (late 2019). I think its about an inch smaller screen size than my Kamvas, but it would take up significantly less space overall and be a lot quicker and easier to set-up and tear down, and space is at a premium with my current setup.

Great review! I've had a love-hate relationship with Samsung tablets for years now, specifically with the S-Pen. What I concluded recently is exactly what you've said in this video: the tip of the pen is so small, and such a small portion of it stays in contact with the screen at any given time, it's almost impossible to get a truly fluid drawing experience because you need to compensate for pressure, tilt, angle, and drag if you're doing anything other than linear straight-line type work. For example: ghosting in lightly and then drawing an ellipse rapidly always results in the line weight (and sometimes the line, period) having no natural taper and balance. With that said, I think the S-pen tip, design, and ergonomics are far better than the Apple Pencil. However, the Apple Pencil still gives a more natural drawing experience. If Samsung tweaked a few things with their pen experience, I don't think at this price point there would be a reason to buy an Ipad Pro for any creative professional.
@rewanji2 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ. I’ve never used any Android or Samsung tablet but I can clearly see what you mean regarding the pressure, tilt, angle, drag and pen tip issues and for me, it’s a no-no. Also for those that are used to a full Apple ecosystem the integration factor it’s, definitely, a decisive point, along with a more consistent user interface experience. Of course, the absence of real optimized apps, such as Procreate compromises, it’s pro orientation. It’s size also might affect battery longevity and performance (not adressed in this review).
@mikepelosi98772 жыл бұрын
@@rewanji I agree with your points. There is more than the pen that needs to be optimized, but that's a good start. I'm also talking about the 14.6" screen which is really nice to have. The 12.4" models are blah if you want to actually draw anything with proportional vertical and horizontal mass. Maybe I should say that, if the pen experience was optimized, then the differences between getting an Ipad Pro 12.9 and Samsung S8 Ultra 14.6 would come down to app usage (and then personal factors that may or may not weigh the decision). I think that Infinite Painter is awesome and I like it better than Procreate...but only on the Ipad Pro. Even an app that was marketed as an Android alternative to Procreate initially is still better developed for Apple. Of course, if Apple comes out with a 14-15" screen, the S8 ultra falls way behind for creative professionals. Ultimately, if I could have a Samsung S-Pen drawing experience that was similar to the Apple Pencil, I'd choose the S-Pen. But I don't think Samsung has yet embraced its devices as a choice for creatives.
@DavZell2 жыл бұрын
@@rewanji As soon as you say you've never used never one of the two things you're comparing, you should stop. Reconsider writing it before taking time adequately experience both. A lot of people have opinions based on outdated information regarding either platform, but especially Android/Samsung. The strides that have been made regarding integration between phone, tablet, and PC by Samsung in the past few years are significant. Just as examples, many aren't aware that you can you can call/text across devices using your phone's number, that clipboards can be shared, that tablets can be extensions of your PC desktop, that there is DEX which is a whole Window/Mac-like UI available from the tablets AND phones, that you can continue working in some apps exactly at the same place between phone and tablet, that some apps support using the phone as an extension of their UI for things like formatting, palette, and tools, and that cloud sharing/storage of data is easily accommodated as easily as local through multiple services. You have a point about app consistency, but didn't seem to acknowledge the potential benefits of allowing unique and creative approaches to interface and app design, nor the limitations of restrictions like the primary interface between apps being forced through the share sheet. I'm not saying this blindly, BTW, as I have both the iPad Pro 12.9 and the TabS8 Ultra. I've had multiple iPhone and Samsung phones, as well. Basically, I'm trying to express the idea that we should experience, or at least educate ourselves on, the things we are comparing and passing judgment on so we personally can benefit from knowing the current state of the options before us.
@rewanji2 жыл бұрын
@@DavZell David, actually I’m not comparing or reviewing anything, just referring my comments to someone ( the previous comentador and the author of the blog) that actually seem to have used the product. Of course the last word on choosing any piece of hardware, specially in the creativity niche, is up to the end user. As a longtime Apple user i can only abide by my personal experience and (fair) competition is always good for everyone. Cheers

Personally Id compare the s pen to a skinny Wacom stylus, that being said, if the form factor is what you don't like, don't get it? Staedler has a Wacom emr stylus that's more pencil like if you fancy that tho, not sure if it's actually compatible, but I remember a tech reviewer saying something Abt it, dunno Abt the price tho
@jinyoon72442 жыл бұрын
I feel you should mention that it's fairly easy and inexpensive to get an alternative stylus for these tablets - particularly the one staedtler makes. Even more so when you start go into pros/cons vs ipads for drawing. In regards to the huion app, they apparently took it off saying they want to improve features. I'm left wondering if the real reason they did so because some of their features were very similar to other apps (procreate in particular) or if it became popular enough they wanted to consider charging for it.

Hey Brad! Amazing review! Just one thing - I think you need to mention in the title and the thumbnail that you are reviewing it from an illustrator's/artist's POV. If someone is searching for good android tablets to draw on, you need to make it easier for the algorithm to put your video on the top, instead of lumping it in with the rest of the reviews for this tablet. Also, when you review the sidecar feature on this tablet, if possible please compare it with the SuperDisplay app which I use on my S6 Lite. It's really good, and I'd like to know if this feature makes that app redundant.

The only problem i find with easy canvas is I don't know how to extend my display on ipad, for example i want to use art software on my ipad, which is on laptop, and use some other software on my laptop. I think this is drawback of easycanvas
@calistonroddaniele.54222 жыл бұрын
Brad, quick tip, if you are gonna do some second screen feature, download the Second Screen App first on the Microsoft Store so the tablet will take advantage of the whole screen when extending

I have had Tab S7+ for 6 months now and NEVER had any issues with palm rejection while working on ClipStudio or Krita. If you disable hand-drawing on these apps there's literally no way you'll get palm marks because they'll only respond to the S-Pen

Thank you for the detailed review. 👍 Regarding the soft nip of S Pen it has that you mentioned in the video, if you purchase extra S Pen nips from Samsung directly, there will be 2 types of nips: soft nips (black ones) and hard nips (grey ones). I heard that the hard nips are better for drawing while soft ones are for taking notes, so I think the hard ones would be better for you. 😊 Looking forward to your new videos.

15:18 I dunno if the trackpad I was using just sucked, but from what i understand the reason that it was done this way is because the tap to click function is super sensitive. i actually just refused to use my trackpad and opted for the touchscreen purely because of accidental touch.

Palm rejection is good because apparently there is no "palm rejection" dedicated "software/gimmick/whateveriscalled". I think that the wacom EMR sensor beneath the glass of the tab s8 rejects all touch inputs when the pen is detected, and this is true since the first galaxy note. It's not a bad idea: you can't do a gesture when the pen is near the screen but you can easily move the pen some millimeters away from the screen and the job is done.

This is the video I was waiting for :) I have a S7+ which I only got roughly a year ago. I love the larger and wider display for more drawing space. Plus the AMOLED is awesome. The only thing bothered me is the palm rejection. I have to download an app (touch rejection) to manually deactivate touch. But now S8 Ultra comes out, plus the upcoming March event for Apple. I wonder should I upgrade mine to the Ultra or should I save up for an iPad Pro??
@RajShekhar-jy2zi2 жыл бұрын
How is palm rejection a problem. The screen automatically rejects any input when the pen is near ? Just put the pen near the screen first and then put the palm . The palm rejection is unbeatable that way
@fwng0012 жыл бұрын
@@RajShekhar-jy2zi it is not that the tablet don't have palm rejection. But from time to time you still get palm marks, the canvas move around and zoom, which can get annoying when you are doing lineart or even just taking notes.

Favorite ball of tape. Very funny and another excellent review. I'm still using my old Samsung but there's a teeny tiny spot in the screen that's sorta off so I keep my eye on what's next. Because I cannot imagine not being able to draw cartoons. So fun. Thank you for the time you put into these videos. Happy Drawing. Cheers, Ivy.

I wish Samsung would pay this much attention to their x86 devices. The first Galaxy Book line was great for a first generation. But they switched it to Arm and then abandoned it. And it only really needed a few tweaks.

It can do display out, so it can do display in as well, but for display in you need some third party app like TwoMon USB.

There is a way to hide the knock on some of your applications, so it won't overlap the app while using it, I let you find the way to do it.
@mrbobo862 жыл бұрын
If you want to use twitter or facebook app on the tablet, just put it on the edge slider panel, and then drag it to the center of the screen to open it as a pop-up window. Then resize the window to whatever you want. If you want the full screen experience, without it looking like a large phone, just use the Samsung Browser in desktop mode for Facebook/Twitter. I don't know why people complain about the aspect ratio of these apps, when they are perfectly fine on a browser app.
