I never took a selfie and I never use a Foldable. After using the Flip5 a couple of days (without taking a selfie), I must say, that I love this little big phone. It's well-built, has beautiful displays, great power , decent cameras and it delivers a lot of fun and possibilties to use.

I owned the Z Flip 4, traded it in and received $900 credit towards the Z Flip 5, along with a $50 credit for signing up before the release, the new Z Fold 5 cost me $40 plus my older Z Flip 4. Samsung gives ridiculously great trade in values on previous models, which makes their foldables much more reasonable, once you purchase your 1st one. Not a bad deal at all! The phone does have it's flaws, but it's really a fantastic phone. Easy to carry around, takes reasonably decent photos and is just a fun phone to use. Give Samsung props for taking a chance on foldables. There are now numerous other companies releasing their version of a foldable phone!

Love Samsung foldables, especially the Flip. But I hope they upgrade it a bit more next year. P.s. does it make you wonder how much profit they are sacrificing to gain market share with $900 trade-in deals? Just food for thought…

46 year old male here. Have an S10+ and have not had any reason to upgrade it. The newer models don't have much that I need. The flips have intrigued me for a while (nostalgia) so I've taken the plunge and ordered the flip 5. With an older model trade in that has a cracked screen, it's not costing me anything other than tax, upgrade fee, and a 3 year risk...if it sucks I can always go back to my current one. I think I'll do most of my tasks on the front screen possibly lessening the opening and closing... We'll see. That's my .02

A couple thoughts...there are definitely some truths here (mid 40's buyer of this phone after switching from iPhone14 Pro.) Over the past couple weeks with this device I have found that my doom scrolling has actually decreased according to the weekly metrics...mainly due to the Flex Window where I can quickly review notifications and flick them away if I don't deem them worthy of taking the time to open the phone. It has only been almost a month but it's definitely improved my screen time habits. It also is a much more convenient phone size. Could the cameras be even better...sure...but in this form factor that's gonna push the price heavily. Is $1000 a lot for a phone....If you're young...yes...if your middle aged and had to shell out $1000 (equivalently) for the Palm Treo 650 back in 2003 which did way way less than this phone at launch...not at all. I think it's safe to say with each revision Samsung has made it more durable and at some point innovation matters. I like iPhones...they work great...and maybe when Apple has a foldable option..I will definitely take a look....but this is the form factor I want going forward.

I'm currently on a z flip 3, and I love it. Your point about the outer screen is just one of the reasons I am a fan. While I did wish it were bigger and to at least be able to make quick responses to txt without opening it, I enjoy not getting sucked in and spending too much time on my phone. Thankfully, Metro Pcs supports this phone, and the switch was crazy easy. Usually, I'd have to wait for a new Sim if I switched devices, but I was able to use the current Sim from my A51 5g phone. Huge improvement over my previous phone. You would expect the battery life to be much better on such an expensive device, but because I use my phone less, the battery lasts long enough for me before having to charge it again. The wireless charging is nice because I've never had a phone with that feature, and it's nice just setting it down not having to fumble looking for the wire. I'd say that for the average user looking for a nice phone, this is a great device. Having the flip feature oddly makes me feel like I'm moving forward in the cell phone market while also giving me that nostalgic feeling of when I was younger and flip phones were the hottest new thing in school. Luckily the price on this phone dropped significantly, and buying second had made it even cheaper. I am really satisfied with my device. I managed to snag a pristine device with no scratches, weird cracking crease, and still has the plastic protector on it. Pop a case on it and you're sure to have this device a long time. Their are so many cool features this phone offers, and for someone who couldn't really ever afford a flagship device, I feel like I'm one over on my friends now who still use slab phones or use apple products. I tried Apple once in my life, and I was disappointed with that experience. I didn't enjoy the platform or the way they specifically make their products exclusive to them, so in other words, if you buy apple you have to buy other expensive apple products i.e (watch, watch bands, ear buds). Not only that, but it seems they keep selling products separately, thus costing you more money long term. With Android, I've found I can buy a variety of less expensive products that connect perfectly with my phones that are not specifically galaxy products. I know to each is own, but I'll always be an android lover over apple.

But i agree it's not worth it for full price. PS: I am currently a S23u user which I like very much but i wanted to try zflip since version 3 but the awkward hinge gap stopped me & when i looked at flip5 in person at store with almost 0 hinge gap i was impressed immediately plus phone was light weight.

This channel has major potential. Honestly, as a 54 year old guy I understand the marketing strategy. They already have my demo for nostalgia, and switching young people to the brand is their only chance for long term growth. And I'd argue your point on the price. In the USA they're pretty competitive at $999 with massive trade in deals. I understand that's not the case in the UK and other markets. Pretty clearly Samsung wants these phones to move in the States and become a "thing". Only after that happens can they work on improving their margins. For now, it's growth at all costs in the USA as an attempt to slow the Apple monopoly. (Whose margins are massive)

Waiting for my Flip 5 to arrive. I think you missed a major point but you were in the neighborhood. Unless you're 10, everyone is on their 3rd or 8th phone at this point and have realized that they are no longer improving hardly at all and what they have now, which may be paid off, is basically the same as the new phones offered each year at ever higher prices. I'm a handful of years from retirement and have to carry a phone but hardly use one. I traded in my Pixel 6 Pro (so the Flip 5 is costing just $200) because if overheats and shuts down in 15 minutes in the summer, and I no longer want to dig a 6 inch+ phone out of my pocket because it made a sound. Also moved to a smart watch, Galaxy 6 Classic to match the phone UI, so I can use that for 90% of what I need a phone for.

interesting point of view but i do not agree on many things. I would like to reverse the questions? What do you expect about Flip conscious of the "at today" technology limitations? By my side we have the top class and energy saving proc. maybe (i have only since yesterday) same lasting of flip 4 but we have to consider the flex display. Flex display now is useful and me as many others are not a teennager and selfie fan (51 years) but maybe just even for the age, bigger display better readability :-) Hinge seems better but who knows we will see. Curge is close to impossible to do not have no one material that already exist can do that. Surely i hope that who buy this phone as me, is aware is not a rock and have to be nicely treated. So what's more keeping the same size and weight? I don't think much more. Sorry but i totally disagree about your comment on the flex display. Is gorilla glass ..i mean almost 99% of smartphone have non protected front glass and if we argue about this so even all candy bar phones are fragile it's a non sense by my point of view. Finally do i suggest to swap flip 4 with this? You can or not ..at this point is , as often, a matter of money and how much you like technology. By my side in Italy that is one of more expansive country with the discount and giving back my flip 4 i'm spending 649 Euro (500 for trade in) and maybe (i'm not fully sure) i will get a brand new bud2 pro ...if this will be true price could be appetizer to someone. But generally speaking for me the top reason to have it (it worths also for flip4) is having something i can put on my pocket instead of close to 7" brick to carry. For that i have iPad and laptop and desktop computers so why struggling with bricks when i'm on the move? :-P

I own both a Flip 5 and an S23. I love them both for two different reasons. The S23 is compact but has top of the line features in a smaller form factor. I hate giant phones that keep falling out of my pocket. Battery life is pretty good on the S23 for a compact phone. It also has BOTH dust and water resistance. The Flip 5 has water resistance but no dust resistance. If you are going to a dirty environment or the beach, leave the Flip 5 home and take the S23 instead. I love the form factor of the Flip 5. It just fits in my pocket so good. Cameras and battery life is better on the S23, but I haven't had an issue getting through the day on the Flip 5. It probably depends on your settings and how often you open it up to the main display. I downloaded the Good Lock app and don't have to open my Flip 5 all that much, so that helps with battery life. IMO, the S23 is the better phone but I love the portability of the Flip 5 and it's different from all the slabs out there.

Disagree on the "trend" of reducing smartphone usage. That is really irrelevant argument in my view. The very people who push for this argument are watching their post getting likes on the internet. I am glad Samsung does not cave in to this temporary trend. Towards the end, I also disagree about ur view of getting Flip 4 over Flip 5. Flip 5 is targeted at a mixed market, a userbase of Content Creators/Light Gaming. I think this is broad enough amongst the younger generation crowd. After all, Foldables phones as a archetype is relatively to the market. Whilst most other power-user Flagships has had 10 generations to improve on. It needs time, the steps taken right now are in the right direction but at a barely sufficient pace. That much, I will agree.
