Thank you very much for the excellent video. I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which is almost 5 years old and it's tiem to upgrade to a newer Samsung. My faithful Galaxy Note 9 has an S-Pen, the functionality of a Secure Folder (where I store all my banking apps and sensitive notes) and most importantly an external Micro SD card slot. The intrinsic memory of my Galaxy Note 9 is just 128 GB but I use an external memory card that gives me an additional 786 GB of extra space. The Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy S23 Ultra both have a S-Pen (a discrete S-Pen in Z Fold 5 is the biggest disadvantage I think, mainly because I tend to misplace small things). Could you please tell me which phone, the Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy S23 Ultra has Secure Folder and a slot to accommodate an external Micro SD Card to enhance the storage capacity? Thanks so much!

I have a S23 Ultra which I'm going to keep instead of switching to the Fold 5. They're both terrific premium devices! Technically the S23 Ultra has the better specs, but you can get done whatever you need to with either phone for the most part. At the end of the day I would recommend getting whichever one that you like best. You can't go wrong either way.

It's obvious they're doing it because of the foldable design. Although, for the price they should find a way to make a slot for the Spen & make the specs equal to the S series.

But the issue is that with the current size, the new 208mp camera just CANT fit inside the thin phone, so it would need to be thicker

I switched from the S22 ultra to the Fold 4 for my first fold experience. I was more than ready to switch back to the S23 ultra when it was available - the Fold never lived to my expectations and the gains weren't worth the losses for my needs. Doesn't look like there was much of a change for the 5 so I'm sticking with the S23U. I'd likely choose the pixel fold if i had to go to a fold at this point because of the better form factor, in my opinion

Everyone has been saying S23 Ultra is the best Flagship out of all the phones on the market. Whether or not that's the case, I'm completely satisfied with my S23 Ultra and don't want anything else. The screen quality is amazing, I notice a difference compared to my Note 9, and Note 10+. This latest generation of Note now rebranded to S Ultra series is the best experience I've ever had and I'm completely amazed at its battery life and smoothness. Being able to be a power user and still get better battery life than the same 5000 mA battery on my old Samsung A53u. Samsung really is the best phone manufacturer ever. I've always gone with Samsung as my go too. Even above my old Sony flagship. And One phone

After having the Z Fold 3 and 4 both fail on me due to the interior screen defects I have lost faith in the Fold Line. I went back to the S23Ultra Line and Ive been very happy. I do miss the larger screen and the multi tasking ability on the fold but to satisfy my need I purchased a Tab S8+ that I carry with me.

Yeah, 100% agree. Had Fold 3 and 4 and I'm done, until they fix the screen protector lifting after a few months. Always had to send my phone in for week to replace it, because there is no proper Samsung Center around, and even that went wrong one time.

I wirelessly run Dex to the monitor and get my multifunction needs taken care of. It's also nice to have the keyboard/mouse. Dex is highly under reviewed in my opinion.

I'm changing to the Fold 5 after having the S23Ultra for only 5 months. I'm hooked on these folding phones but I keep going back to the S models from fear of the folder breaking. Hinges and screens change every model but I have yet to find one that I would keep for more than a year. The S23 ultra was very hard to trade in I must say.

If I am being honest, you should use any flagship phone for at least 2 years to actually get your money's worth out of it. But the Fold 5 is very exciting, I must agree. The 6th Fold will have the IP 68 dust and water resistance, which the current Folds don't have (just the water resistance, IP X8, no dust resistance).

In my opinion the outside screen is too small for normal use, and the inner screen is amazing, but too big for regular use and there is big unused gaps when watching videos unless you zoom in, which will make you miss lots from the videos. The ultra was a better fit for me, still has a huge screen, always have the pen on hand, way better cameras, better battery life and never have the need to have 3 apps open

I imagine the drawing experience is still better on the S23 Ultra. Drawing a straight line across the middle dip would be very annoying and lead you to drawing mostly on either side thus losing the benefit of a larger canvas.

Considering no movies are in the 4:3 aspect ratio, I'm assuming the images we are watching on full screen without the black bars are cut on the sides since they were likely originally in the 16:9 format. This means when you watch a movie (in the 21:9 format) or a youtube video (16:9) you will end up having the exact same movie/YTvideo real-estate area you get on the S23 ultra (perhaps even less seeing as S23 ultra is actually marginally longer than the fold), which is unfortunate for Fold users considering so much new screen area is mostly going unused for what actually matters most in terms of screen size (movies/series and videos). For reading general website browsing, news articles and drawing, the fold is better however, since the additional screen area outside of those 16:9 is actually being used

Like - "I bought it so now I have to really believe it's great in every single way". Not that this fold phone is an unpractical gimmick. It's not. The new vertical area can definitely be used for other things but it's definitely not a change for the best in experience from the multimedia standpoint :)

Why I won't purchase a Samsung Fold 5. I'm too rough on these phones. A solid phone does not break like the Fold. Eventually the Fold causes problems with the wiring. My last fold lost it's Bluetooth setting.

I upgraded from the S22 ultra to the S23 Ultra 6 weeks ago because the trade in deal was so good, cost me $250 out of pocket. And I just upgraded again to the Z Fold 5. I made the mistake of being cheap and got the 256mb S23U and I can really tell a difference dropping down to 8gb of ram vs the 12gb my S22U had, so I'll be happy to have 12gb again with the ZF5

Me too. I use it as a secondary phone to my iPhone 14 Pro Max, I really love the S23 Ultra's form factor, battery life, and cameras. That blur, front facing camera, etc are all top notch. People thought I took some pics on my Canon R6 DSLR, and the thing with smart phones is. I prefer the colors that they produce with their chips. Looks so clean. Absolutely wild but I miss the Fold 4 and I can sacrifice a little battery if I got over the camera aspect.

Great comparations video. I'm using Note20ultra since the releasing day. It's still fast (for me), and with 512GB micro SD, it meets all my needs for work and home. But should I pick one of these 2 phones, It will be the S23ultra, it's because of 1st: Most movies today are either 16:9 or 21:9 format... the ""square display tablet size" of Zfold5 will not benefit much in term of bigger screen when watching movies, and 2nd: The weight, the thickness, smaller battery size, and no S-pen built-in of Zfold5 will disappoint me. The only thing that I like about the Zfold5 is the front camera locate under the screen. I wish the next S24ultra will have that technology. That's being said, my Note20ultra is so far so good as I'm typing this comment right now :D Thank you Saki, love your channel as always.

I'm thinking the same thing. The only two disadvantages of the S23Ultra are the curved edge screen. I absolutely hate that on my Note 20 Ultra. And, as you mentioned, the camera cutout. I wish it were an under screen camera but I'm used to the camera being visible and it doesn't really bother me. But the curved edge of the screen pisses me off on my Note20. When I go to tap the screen, my palm brushes up against the screen and either clicks a link I didn't want to click, or makes the screen unresponsive since it's detecting two touch points and doesn't know which to respond to. I preordered the Fold5 for the larger screen so I can watch movies when I'm on trips, but when I actually saw one of them in a store, the screen just isn't large enough to make that worthwhile since, as you said, the aspect ratio with movies and most TV shows will make half the screen unused anyway. I'm seriously considering taking advantage of the Samsung Swap thing once I get my Fold5. I checked the prices of both and with all the discounts they're doing, the Fold5 is $50 cheaper than the S23U and they're offering to switch them for only $1 more. So basically, I can get the S23U for $49 less than I could have if bought outright. I'm also going to be pretty paranoid about the Fold screen breaking, and much much less paranoid about the S23u breaking. My Note20U has survived quite a few drops that I'm sure would break the Fold5 and the S23U is much more durable than the Note20U.

A few years ago I switched from the Galaxy S21 Ultra to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. A years ago I switched to the 13 Pro Max. This time around I’m going back to Droid. I waited and am going to buy the Fold 5 tomorrow. I’m tired of Apple’s BS more than anything. That said, my 13 Pro Max does have several issues which a year old phone shouldn’t have. 1) the battery is already saying its maximum charge is 80% 2) more and more lately the phone isn’t recognizing the charge cable 3) it has been getting very hot under load, the strange thing is that using the same apps hasn’t caused it to heat up until now 4) notifications no longer work properly, I don’t get alerts for texts at all now

I had a z fold 4 and changed it with s23 ultra. It was fine but a) i hated the narrow front screen especially while texting, bear in mind I swipe and b) not being able to use the S pen on the front screen was a hassle as i use it for the most part of my day. It wasnt always practical to unfold and write.

As someone that use the calculator/date/time/excel… having a large portable pocket sized screen is definitely handy… the large screen looks great for retro-gaming/gaming as well 🔥 Ain’t gonna lie, I started as an apple fan, and throughout the years I’ve become a Samsung fanboy I still think Apple is a great overall company… but they OD rely on their iPhone for sales and they’re running out of ideas for it since you hardly see anything new in phones. I think this is why Samsung merged their Galaxy and Note series into one & they made the Flip and Z folds to attract some form of innovation in a market that’s over saturated/run out of ideas at this point

Picked S23, the main considerations are the superior camera, more durable, water resistance and Price. I wanted Fold5 because I also frequently read ebooks or comics but I figured its still a bit cheaper if I buy a S23 and a mid range Samsung tablet than a brandnew Fold 5.

Hey Saki! Great review! I'm typing on my ZFold 3. Now, this fablet beast doesn't slow down, and updates have increased battery life during the day. The Fold5 would be a much needed radio antennas and internals upgrade since 5G has moved out of infancy. 🎉

The Fold5 isn't a tablet, it's just a slightly bigger smartphone. And there stops everything. You can now buy easily the S23 Ultra for less than 1000€ depending on what storage capacity you want, and from my POV 256GB it's good enough for a smartphone, but for 70-80€ you're not gonna miss the 512GB one. Also, the price of the Fold5 will not go down too soon, so for 1800€ you can afford to buy a S23 Ultra with 512GB or even 1TB storage capacity, the newest S Tablet and even a Galaxy 6 Classic watch

The Fold is an intriguing device, but I already have a Tab S8. I think I'll upgrade from my Note 10+ to the S23 Ultra while it's on sale, the Fold is still expensive after the discount. I just wish that both phones had expandable storage like my Note.

Sakitech, great review, two different animals but the fablet battery life is my greatest concern. Fold4 vs Fold5. Noticed in your video, Fold 5 showing 2 days left and full charge 4 days 4 hours. What would your Fold 4 battery screen show in comparison?

Go for zfold 5, im also a medical student and im going for fold 5 as it will be much more productive for me and it will be also helpful for making notes on the go.

Should I upgrade from my Fold 3 to Fold 5? I just use it for everyday phone with most activities on Whatsapp, emails, KZbin, sometimes Netflix & Spotify and occasionally gaming (COD) and taking photos (just regular photos, not zooming). My Fold 3 battery usually will die down from full charge at 7am to around 7pm (need to top up with powerbanks).

I already have the S Tab 6 tablet, 2nd generation Galaxy watch, and the Galaxy Go Book 5G, so my Samsung eco system is set up. After watching several KZbinrs reviews on the Z Fold 5, I'm beginning to think I might be wasting my $$$$ upgrading to the Z5. Bigger question is does the SG23U have DeX?

I returned ZF4 for S22U and is now waiting for S24U. Unless you really could get some serious benefit out of that unfolded screen, S23U is always the better choice. Convenience is key advantage of mobile devices, and Folds aren't nearly as convenient with many compromises and extra steps. So that screen better be worth it.

Basically, if you really need bigger display for multimedia and work, the fold 5 is better. If you care more about everything else the S23 Ultra is better. They are equally awesome phones, you just need to know your priorities.

Can you show extended example in which internal display is used for web browsing? I have noticed that almost no reviewer in their reviews of foldable phones show examples of web browsing. I would like to see comparison between normal phone and foldable phone in that regard. I am curious how well internal screens of foldable phones are optimized to show more text, more content of web pages. I have a feeling there is the same amount of text shown just bigger and that oversized pictures are dominating the web pages making the experience less than ideal.

I was a Sprint customer and now finally have switch over to T-mobile which I am on the essential plan so in order for me to per-order the z fold 5 to qualify for the $1000 off a t mobile rep has told me I also need to upgrade my plan to the 5g plus plan which I believe cost more then the plan I already have don't know why I need to change my plan to order this phone?

Thank you very much for the excellent video. I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which is almost 5 years old and it's tiem to upgrade to a newer Samsung. My faithful Galaxy Note 9 has an S-Pen, the functionality of a Secure Folder (where I store all my banking apps and sensitive notes) and most importantly an external Micro SD card slot. The intrinsic memory of my Galaxy Note 9 is just 128 GB but I use an external memory card that gives me an additional 786 GB of extra space. The Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy S23 Ultra both have a S-Pen (a discrete S-Pen in Z Fold 5 is the biggest disadvantage I think, mainly because I tend to misplace small things). Could you please tell me which phone, the Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy S23 Ultra has Secure Folder and a slot to accommodate an external Micro SD Card to enhance the storage capacity? Thanks so much!

After have the fold 4, I can honestly say it was not worth the money. I ended up going to the 23 ultra. The fold was fun and interesting at first but I found it was just cumbersome and it did not make much sense. When the phone was closed you had a smaller display with a thicker feeling phone, and when it was open, the inner screen was not able to give you a proper aspect ratio for playing games or watching movies. I ended up going to the ultra because the screen made more sense. Sometime going for the best of both could also mean you went for the worst of both as well. Google did better with the outside screen for using your phone in a casual way but they did poor on the inner screen bezel.

My 2 cents, do not upgrade. The Z fold is almost identical to the last generation and even the one before. Definitely not enough different to warrant its extremely hefty price tag. S ultra series is still my go to, and many Samsung users I know.

Excellent video! As informative as it was, I'm still unsure of my decision. I'm leaning Z fold 5 just because of the technology. The other downside to both products is protecting them. I use Otterbox Defender on all my phones and tabs. They're expensive. I'm sure you already know that. But I haven't come across a protective case for the fold 5 that i'm comfortable with. I'm going to Verizon this evening to upgrade. Thanks again for the vid.

With all due respect, as a S23 Ultra owner.. man... the Fold 5 is straight DOWNGRADE in comparison. Samsung has to work very hard to convince me to get a fordable. Maybe adopting a more sensible form factor for the outer screen and adding a s-pen in the device, would be a good start.

And upgrading the battery.... i work 12hr shifts and spend a lot of time on my phone, my S22Ultra makes it about 10-11 hours. 23ultra wouldn't require a charge, but the fold5 will. Battery life and camera competitiveness is what I was waiting to hear about on the fold 5 before upgrading to the 23 Ultra

@@0351marinemike When I'm in need of extended battery life on my S23 ultra, I've set up my power save mode to default the screen refresh rate at 60hz and disable 5G. Also limiting the CPU to 70% takes no significant toll, the flagship snapdragon chips are beasts with power to spare. Anyhow, I'm getting 2+ days battery life with 10+ hours of screen on time. Try it, and thank me later.

Not really. I used to own the note series, and if you have never owned a foldable, you will not understand. Try multitasking with your S23U. You just can't compared it to the Z fold 4. For multi-tasking/multimedia and business/productivity, go for Z fold series. For camera and normal phone day to day use go for the S series. It's as simple as that. Don't be childish. Both phones are marketed for different people. One is not better than the other. They are two completely different form factors. It's like saying a laptop is better than a PC!!!

I completely agree with the watch 6, I got the watch 5 pro and the s23 ultra through insurance since my zf3 has a part broken and they could fix it, and my watch 4 classic just stopped working after they did work on it for the warranty. I'm honestly not happy with the watch 5 pro because of the missing rotating bezel, and I wish I could've gotten my fold 3 fixed rather than getting the s23u. I love the cameras, but in the cases of using the zoom and 200mp, it's more of a gimmick, and I will get similar looking pics with the zf5
