Samsung Gear 360 (2017) Review

Samsung's back to the drawing board with a new Gear 360. Is this revised camera a step in the right direction? Has Samsung fixed some of the issues we had with the first-gen Gear 360?

Can you please post examples of photos with and without the "Landscape HDR" feature? Both indoors and out. Outdoor and indoor shots are just not satisfactory with the old 360 cam. I'm hoping the new Landscape HDR feature makes a big improvement, even if it requires using a tripod, since I believe it takes multiple shots. Thank you!

Apparently Samsung's QC is very lacking. I just got a Note 8 with a bonus Gear 360 2017. The darn thing was DOA, have spent many hours on Samsung's customer support before finally getting the message it will be some time before it is replaced, there is an epidemic of this problem. Funny when I told one of the several tech support people I spoke with it was DOA, he said what does that mean!

As much as I still love my Gear 360, footage in low light is pretty much unusable. It is way too dark and loses any detail

Much prefer the old one because it's easier to mount on my motorcycle, rc aircraft and quadcopter. That built-in handle on this new one will be a royal pain in the ass.

I've bought this camera here in Poland and accidentally it felt to its side and I got some scratches on its lens, unfortunately I am not able to get support here. I've got in touch to the samsung center on internet and they provided me a repair center but on this place they tell that they don't repair such device. So I really recommend to avoid buy this equipment as they do not provide proper support!

Pionel tapinessi I'd personally say get the camera, reason being you can sell it off it you don't want it and at $299.99 You can get at least half maybe 75% if your lucky. The micro SD card is only 128GB and charging pad are ok if you'll use them, but if your like me and got the 256GB card from the Note 4 way back or already have a fast wireless charging pad (that I barely use) just go for the camera and use it as a dash cam if you don't want to sell it.

Okay, you can watch your raw material, clip by clip, that is stil on your phone. But if you made e short movie with actionediter, the 360 video-editer from Samsung, can you watch it without (!) youtube ? Relode the finished movie directly back to my phone ? no cloud-storage for me ! So far, my pc recognise my phone, but I can not copy to the same folder, where the raw material still is.

Read before you buy: If you break or scratch the exterior lens, you will need to buy a new one. This camera has no reparation!

@@SeanDIY use a tiny bit of Blue Magic plastic polish on a piece toilet paper or microfiber towel. Take your time and polish the whole outer lens evenly. Works like a charm.

I just got my New Gear 360 (2017) a few days ago, and I'm returning it asap! IMO it's horrible compared to the old (2016) one. The photo quality is just plainly bad, really bad. All of the photos come out soft. There are no points in the picture that are sharp. I've tested it in perfect lighting condition, and it's still not sharp. The video suffers from the same soft mess. The stitching of the photos in absolutely horrid. The 2016 managed it in a few pixels, yeah sometimes it was a little off, but it was ok. The 2017 model widens the stitching over a large area and blurs everything. It's very noticeable and looks really bad. Also the quality of the lenses on the 2017 seem worse than the 2016. Way more distortion and softness on the edges. This might be why the the stitching looks so bad too. For some reason my model doesn't have live streaming! It's on the box, but the neither the camera, nor the app has the feature. I assume this'll be fixed via software update, but it's slap in the face of the consumer, who buys it thinking they'll be able to live stream right out of the box. I'm really disappointed with the camera, I expected to be better, or just as good, as the 2016 model, but it is noticeably worse. Of course it's way cheaper, but if you are looking for quality, get the 2016 model. The form of it is nice if you have tiny hands, otherwise just by holding it naturally, you'll be touching the lens and smudging it. The 2016 model's handle is way more comfortable. Also it turns into a fairly stable tripod. The 2017 has a rubber ring to do this, but it's a joke. I'm always afraid when setting down the camera, that it'll fall over. There are some good things about the 2017 one. It's faster than the old one, and the size makes it more portable. The video resolution is better on paper, but higher resolution won't do you any good if the image is bad from the start, and it is bad. All in all DON'T GET THE 2017 GEAR 360! Get the 2016 model it's way better, and it'll probably come down in price eventually.

the main concerns for me are : A: Any lens fog issues B: Overheat cut out These tow factors stopped me buying the original. Plus are stills really worse - I know lower megapixels in cameras dont always equate to worse images (Look at the Galaxy S7 & S8 vs the S6) but surely a 10 Mp drop over a 360 area is a huge redeuction in definition?

You and me seem to ber thinking along the same lines, I may just go for the original one asd I do like its "action camera" versatility and that the batteries are removable? I was just worried about overheating as I need to use one at a wedding in a few weeks time plus when I go abroad later this year its hopefully going to be very hot. Cant find many side by side examples yet of old vs new in relation to quality and still images to help me decide.

alot of reviews say the pictures are garbage on the new one compared to the old, and the video is supposedly higher quality, but the new video being in 24fps? no thanks. i cant say iv had mine in abroad heat, but i have had it out for sunny days. and i cant say iv noticed, any change in heat from the unit. hope this helps you :D i was really worried putting alot of money into this product, but i can safely say it was 100% worth every penny. its been a great little camera if u can get the opportunities for it, if you dont go exploring, this is amiss, but i travel alot, and this is great to have with me :D its a must with a professional selfy stick, :D holding in your hand isnt as great when ur hand is in every shot, but each to our own i guess. and yes the removable battery is so handy, i can charge one in the car while the other is in use while on the go :D the stunning single lens videos are amazing i use 1080p 60 alot the camera will reduce the fisheye effect, and make some great quality videos, a brilliant small camcorder wow, but i fear this will also be a letdown, with the halfed quality lenses in the new one/,

I am looking for help getting Samsung Support. They have had my Gear 360 2017 since June 14, 2017. Every time I call they say it will be ready next week. Three weeks in a row they have told me the same thing. I authorized the repair June 28th with my credit card. It has a small scratch on one lens cover. I need my camera back. I have spent over three hours on the phone with Samsung Support. It appears they don't have anyone that can repair the 360 cameras. They told me they have seven of the cameras and are waiting on upper management to make a decision. Please pass this along to your contacts at Samsung.
