Hi, nice video! It explains a lot. I have 2 questions: Since I dont have a Samsung device, is it possible to transfer all pictures and videos using a USB cable into a PC? Another question is: any chance to use underwater? Or maybe can be used inside a case from any other manufacturer? Thx

the easiest way to transfer the file is to take out the micro sd card and just copy it using a card reader.... i haven't seen any underwater cases yet but have seen some images online ... so not sure how good or how much they are.... an underwater case would be fantastic.. or just a tough case that can ease my mind as to scratching the lens would be good too...

it's still pretty much a point and click camera with very minimal manual controls... you can play with the exposure compensation a little bit but that's about it.... so you pretty much have to test out the light at the various ISO to see if it's ok....

unfortunately I highly doubt it..... Samsung is going much the same way as Apple in trying to lock their users in their eco-system, so even though other phones might be enough processing power to use the Gear 360 Manger app, Samsung is unlikely to open it up to them.... I'm hoping they do but I won't put money on it....

There's a mod version of the Gear 360 Manager app. People have been able to download and use it on other Android devices. You'll have to Google it to find it.

Mike4VR - you are correct... a few people have asked me to test it but unfortunately I haven't had a chance yet... it's great that there is a community to help make this camera accessible to nonSamsung phone users...

i suppose you can always fix the white balance and light exposure in post editing but i prefer to get as much right straight out from the camera as possible...

unfortunately not to what i can tell..... the photos do come out quite nice and clean and I've touched up a few in photoshop and they turn out quite nicely...

I have the same issue as Jeremy. When you hold down menu it brings up "Samsung Gear Manager" and with a second push it has "remote". Supposedly there should be a "Google Street View" menu which allows a hack to allow an iPhone to trigger the shutter, but only the gear manager/remote are selectable. Maybe I need an firmware update (which I can't do with an iPhone)?

ok... i get ya... on my gear 360 i do get the Google Street Mode after "Gear Manager" and "Remote" - this come up on the second press of the Menu button.... i do have the latest firmware so maybe you are right that it came with that..... unfortunately i don't know of anyway of updating the firmware without a samsung phone... some people have access updating the firmware with the custom ROM - but you still need an Android phone that can run it to connect to the camera...

I figured it out! A memory card has to be in the camera to see the Google Street View. Hope that helps others pulling their hair out. On a semi-related note, It doesnt like my Lexar card. Sandisk is ok. Thanks for the quick reply. Nice videos too btw. Cheers!

So the footage is stored un-stitched? Is that correct? So the camera doesn't stitch on the fly? My question is, without a compatible phone, can I use this camera to do a 1 button "record", then download a single stitched video file to my PC to edit and upload? If not, this is useless to me and I'll have to consider the Nikon.

you are right... the footage is not stitched on the fly in-camera. You can still record using the on-camera buttons without a compatible phone (however there are other options to use most phones as a camera trigger - just not for viewing, stitching and editing the 360 files)..... but you'll still need to stitch the image/videos separate when you download onto your PC.... the Nikon just stitch on the fly but that also mean that sometimes it is not as responsive and there is a little lag between the saving and stitching of each video..... i can see benefits in having the camera autostitch - but i think my preference is to have an option in camera to choose whether stitching should be done manually or automatically

Cool thanks for the reply. I've done some digging and note the desktop software does stitch for you so that's good. Annoyingly I'd still need the phone app to set video to be 4K. Clever Samsung :(

hi, my gear360 only records up to 8mins26seconds...then it stops and continues to record on a separate clip. Can i set it to records continuously til i stop the clip on my own?

Page 28 of Samsung Gear 360 manual stated that "Large files will be divided into 1.8 GB units and saved." So I don't think it will record continuously...

+hehehks I haven't actually tried uploading directly via my phone but that's mainly due to not having a lot of mobile data and or if I'm at home, I rather upload via an old computer so it doesn't stop me from using my phones for hours (slow internet!!)... I know other people have had success editing and uploading directly via the phone... I might have a tried with a small clip and see how I go...

+Bebendo Com Amigos the gear 360 footage is unstitched... the stitching can be fine by either action director or a Samsung compatible mobile phone running the gear 360 manager app... in fact the app is the preferred method for stitching over action director...

+overexpose 360 my one doesn't save settings it keeps defaulting back to 2560 x 1280 , camera mists up inside the lens , all in pretty poor camera in my opinion , I'm returning it

i 've encountered the same prob (set to 4K, and returned back to 2K when i press OK). but i eventually find a way to fix it. i chose the video size option and press OK one by one (chose the smaller size option and click OK first ), then finally i can chose the 4K option after pressing the OK button. FIX !! Hope it helps!!

i've just checked the official samsung gear 360 page (www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/gear-360/#!/spec) the s6 edge plus is definitely compatible to use the Samsung Gear 360 Manager app to connect with the Gear 360 camera... again the only issue that other S6 (not plus) user have noted that they can't stitch 4k videos - this is limited by the app that is install on their S6... so you may have the same issue...

we don't have the S6 Edge Plus here but I assume it is the same as the S6 Edge... the Samsung S6 Edge is officially compatible to be used with the Gear 360 but may have a limit of stitching 2k videos.... you can still shoot 4k videos on the gear 360 and have it stitched via your PC or using the custom modded Gear 360 manager app
