Samsung Gear 360 workaround for other Android devices (like Nexus, Sony Xperia, ...)

This video shows howto connect and use the Samsung Gear 360 camera on officially unsupported devices such as for instance the Google Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Galaxy S4/S5, Sony Xperia, HTC 10, Xiaomi Mi, Huawei Mate S, OnePlus. The workaround requires Android 5 or later.

This worked for me on a Huawei P30. It took a few tries getting the permissions set up correctly and the wifi to connect but now have my Gear 360 2016 in use again. Great work! Many thanks!

Thanks, it worked on my Xiaomi Mi A3 phone, which is running the latest version of android, android 10. I am very happy and can access all my old 360 photos and see the live view to take photos. I used the Xiaomi file explorer because I couldn't find the one in the KZbin video. I got a bit stuck on the final stage with connecting to Wifi. You have to confirm that you want to connect to the camera's Wifi network and then confirm again that you want to connect to a Wifi network with no internet, otherwise it reconnects to the Wifi network with internet.

Hey it appears there is an issue trying to get this to work on the Galaxy S5 with android 6.0.1 marshmallow. When you try to enter live view the screen turns black and the app freezes. If anyone knows a workaround or a link to a video fix please let us know!

I use a Moto G5 Plus as my daily driver right now. Not much hope that i'm going to get this camera working on it, but I have hope. I want to get my hands on an S6 and then I won't have to worry anymore, but I do have an S5 and Note 3 kicking around that I'll try it on. Not sure what version they are running though.... Hopefully I didn't just waste my money buying this camera, but I got a good deal, so I can always flip it I guess.

Unfortunately it has not worked. Could Porgramm install on S5. It has also connected to the Gear. The update was not transferred to the cam and the live image of the Cam did not appear.

On a Moto X first generation, don't work, when i select the camera, the app was stopped... =( For take a photos, i used the app Street view, they conect whith the gear 360, i take the photo, and with the app Visualizador LG 360, i share the photos!

Tried with my Xiaomi Note 3 Pro. THe application installed and connected to the cam with no prob. I could take the pic and it even stitched two into one (sometimes it freezes) . But the moment the picture is done and I press the button 360o in the middle to be able to edit photo (make it sphere or other) the app crashes. also there are some issues with recording movies. I returned mine to the store. WHen the MOD APP will work as it should, then i can always buy it again. For now - don't waste youur money unless you want to be limited to take panoramas only.

me also have xiaomi redmi note 3 pro, and try taking some photos its working without problem, but when I try to take videos (the videos around 1 minute), and importing from gear 360 to phone it takes longer and never finish I think (tried to wait for more than 10 minutes), I also tried to import sample video for 7 second and still same, takes longer time to stitching/ importing to phone any idea everyone?

The method described here uses Android software. Due to some technical reasons it is in general not possible to use the Gear 360 with iOS (except the Street view mode).

Hi. With my Nexus 5 (not 5X) Gear 360 manager connects the camera but when I click over does'nt works. I've installed 4k apk version, now I try 2k version if something different... Someone of you with Nexus 5 go fine?

Sometimes it seems to be tricky to get the "thing" working. My stable setup is as follows: 1.) Start the Gear Manager. 2.) Turn on the Gear 360 camera. The app should now automatically detect the Gear 360. If not, then press the connect button in the app. If the app crashes then I usually have to reboot my Nexus.

Nothing Crash. Camera connects easly with Gear manager and Nexus 5, but when I try to do something nothing works. When I click "Gear 360" or the camera icon in the right lower corner of app ... Gear 360 manager display "loading.." (in italian "caricamento...") and nothing goes on :-(

Update: with 2k version of apk when I click the camera icon on the bottom right corner of app something happens, it shows the icons of settings but then it gives me black screen. something more, ...but not enough :-(

The 360 Manager seems to be picky. I got it working on an old Galaxy S4 but it crashes often. On my Nexus 5X it works almost as well as on the Galaxy S7 (only starting the preview is a bit slower).

The photos are automatically stitched on the Theta, but videos are unstitched. The Gear 360 provides unstitched photos and videos. But the stitching of the Theta is fairly good compared to the stitchting provided by the Gear 360.

I think Android 7.x is the problem. I have just updated to Android 7 and the Gear 360 Manager starts but does not allow any control of the Gear 360 camera anymore.

You need Android 5 or later. And you must also use the download links from the video description because the Google Play Store will tell you that your device is not supported.

The WiFi password is shown when you enter the "Streetview" mode on the Gear 360.

The Wifi password is different between cameras (it is negotiated over Bluetooth). But you can find out the Wifi password by switching the Gear 360 into "Google Streetview" mode.

The password is different on every camera, the password is an 8-digit number. 1) Hold down the menu button, it will say "Gear 360 manager" 2) Click the menu button twice, it will say "Google Street View" 3) Click the OK button on the top of the camera, it says "Waiting to connect", then it says Gear360(97:CE), which is the name of the Wifi network and on the next line it says an 8-digit number, the 8-digit number on the display is the Wifi password.

Same here with my Nexus 6P (Android 7.0) and Gear 360 (firmware C200GLU0APE4). When I try to tap on "Live View mode button" or on "Gear 360" tab the phone tries to connect and suddenly it shows the message "Internet connection not active". If I go to wifi settings on the phone I can see an "AP_Gear 360(CC:C6:2A)" with just below wrote "No Internet Access Detected, won't automatically reconnect". Then if I tap over it, press forget and press again it asks for a password...
