This video was TREMENDOUSLY helpful. Thank You! The only other thing I'd mention is that the battery is affixed to that outer board with 3M double-sided type. You have to be super careful using a non-conductive prybar to get it off and then use the remaining glue/tape that didn't come off to stick the new battery on before reconnecting.

If anyone is having trouble with the tri-wing screws, check if your driver has a flat or pointed tip. The screws have a shallow groove, so you'll want to have a flat tipped tri-wing screwdriver. You can file the tip a little at a time until it sits properly.

Thank you VERY much for the walk-through. Just a small note, the battery WILL be rubberized glued to the case and require a little finesse to release it. The watch back will also be stuck on pretty hard and require CAREFUL working apart if you've used the watch as a daily driver for any amount of time. All-in-all, though, great guide and 15-20 minutes of realistic work for a first-timer

Very help. My S3 is a couple of years older so the following tricks helped. 1. Used better tools than came with the battery kit. Battery kit tools would not have cut it. 2. A very fine metal blade to get the case started to separate and then 2nd set of hands with 2-plastic pry bars to get the case open. 3. The point about disconnecting the battery cable is spot on. 4. My battery was really glued in place. Had to gently pry it off with metal spatula. 5. Tooth pick or plastic fine point tool (non-conducting) helpful to hold connectors out of the way when reassembling. 6. Patience and taking time.

I have to agree with quite a few of the posts about this video. While the instructions about how to open and get to the battery were in themselves excellent, there is NO doubt that this was done many times before with the same watch. There's no way you got the back off that easy on the 1st time around, let alone let the battery flop out as easy as it did. That being said, the instructions were great and allowed me to completely replace the battery in my S3 Frontier (SM-R760) watch. So, thank you VERY much for the video. Next time though you might want to include the issues you had the first time you disassembled the watch. AKA the incredibly hard to crack backside, as well as the glued on battery. I too had to go through several tools to find one that would work, and not tear up the watch in the process.
@DiegoMina4 жыл бұрын
It's likely he's opened the same watch several times. However, there is also a revision of the watch where they no longer use the adhesive type of seal. From what I've read, later revisions of the watch have a rubber gasket, not an adhesive one. For the battery, using a plastic pry tool helps. YMMV.

To begin, I had a completely dead watch. After that whole 3.0.0.1 debacle and 4-5 hour battery drain, it finally went back to normal, watch worked great, had an all day charge (I have everything on, charge it every night). Last week, I woke up to the charger flashing red. Took the watch off - totally dead (it wasn't the night before). Tried recharging it several times, just got red, then within minutes, flashing red. Bought a new charger (OEM) - nope, same thing. Saw a forum that the battery could be changed, ordered one on Amazon and the tool kit. I was SO certain this would work. I followed the video exactly - had to pause and rewind a LOT. I would say that this particular watch in the video has been taken apart once before, minimum everything just came right apart. Wasn't quite that easy for me. I got the screws out - though getting them out all the way wasn't easy but I did, didn't lose any. Had a Hell of a time getting the case open. Tried several types of flat pry type tools - really chewed up the watch rim trying to get anything to crack it open. Finally did, removed the philips screws, undid the 3 connectors, that was all super easy. Then trying to pry the circuit board off - another story completely. Every slight pull with a fingernail started bending the board. Kept at it and FINALLY got it loose. Getting the battery out was a nightmare. It's GLUED in place, was NOT possible to just POP it out as done in the video. I had to get a scalpel-type tool and carefully slide it under the battery until it finally came free. Replacing everything went well enough - oh, the old battery ? It was literally bloated to twice the thickness of the new one, the foil side (with all the glue on it) was all puckered, puffy, wrinkled - looks to me like acid must have started leaking? Maybe that's why it had been getting so hot over the past 2 weeks on the charger? Once it was all back together, I held the power button down and - OMG! - I got the Samsung Galaxy Frontier light! I was excited that it must have worked - as I wasn't even getting that before - but that was as far as it got. Put it on the charger - got no charging indicator on the watch. The charge light on the cradle came on solid red but within minutes it started blinking, just as before. Tried pushing some buttons but nothing this time. Oh well, that was $110 down the drain ($40 for new cradle, $40 for battery, $25 for tools). When I have time, I'll go through the entire procedure again, just to see. Ryan The Cell Phone Doctor, thanks for the video and guidance. It would be nice if you included that parts about hard to crack casings and glued in batteries. In the meantime, I've read from some posters that their battery also was bloated. I'm curious, for those that had bloated batteries, how many of you actually were able to make this work? That whole Update 3.0.0.1 update sounded like one big cluster-fu** to me and it's just beyond coincidental that I never had ANY problems with my watch before this. I'd like to hear from you!

A few important tips that might help!! 1. When prying off the back plate, get a sharp Stanley knife blade and pry near each of the 4 screws between the back plate and the part where the band clips into (you get more leverage this way) 2. The battery is glued to the back plate in some models, I slowly pryed it out using the Stanley blade making sure not to put any strain on that little connector in the corner 3. When putting the back plate on again, I got some silicone and used the tip of a very small screw driver to apply it around the seal of the back plate. Once I screwed it in I wiped the excess off, I don't know if this will allow it to be waterproof again but better than nothing

This may have taken 15 minutes but it felt like 30 minutes 😆 Plugging the connections back in only requires you to have (may the force be with you) a light touch until you feel it snug into place, then press down. I cut the glue strands and the foil battery covering in order to remove the battery. Then I just peeled the foil from the sticky pad. The battery connection didn't seem to "plug in", but more like it snaps on place on the little peg with the cover kind of just hovering in place. Great video and thanks for saving me and thousands of others.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. My watch, too, has been totally USELESS since the firmware "upgrade," so what did I have to lose? I had trouble with the Y00 screws - I found that a Y0 screwdriver worked better. Maybe because mine is a CLASSIC instead of FRONTIER? The 4 case screws had blue Loctite on them. Everything came apart fine. The old battery did NOT have adhesive of any kind, and was not bloated at all that I could tell. HOWEVER, I did notice a little plastic guide post underneath the battery connector was bent over sideways preventing the new battery connector from seating properly. AHA! Workmanship issue. I tried prying it back up and naturally it broke off. Good riddance. The new battery (which came with adhesive) is now firmly in place. All went well on the reassembly, and now the watch is charging away happily. Fingers crossed.

I just replaced battery today. I bought it from Amazon uk 3 months ago and all of a sudden I found it hot after charging. It then went from 3 days battery life to 8 hours. I tried to return it but Samsung said it was a none EU model so wouldn't do anything. So I bought a battery and replaced it using this video advice. So far so good. 4 hours after charging and it is 98% still. I have the bezel and gesture wake up turned off. Some tool tips for the UK. I used a 2.00 Y screwdriver for the back screws. To lever the back open I used the flat end bit from the bottle opener blade on a Swiss army knife. It was easy after trying other tools. Hopefully it will last, but there is a major issue for a battery to fail after 3 months and with Amazon selling non EU devices from a company calling itself "Samsung Mobile UK". Thanks for the vid, mate.

Thanks for the video, it was vital. I watched it multiple times before getting started, and once mid process. But I just got done changing out the battery and it works. I found it easier to remove the whole black plastic carrier from the watch. The large ribbon cable and the smaller one next to it can slide through the plastic carrier - they connect to the LCD - and the whole assembly is free of the bezel. Then you can push the battery and top circuit board out from behind. One pain is the battery ribbon cable has a small hole to orient it and secure it. The hole on my replacement battery wasn't punched through all the way. I used a pin to open it up. So if you are doing this, make sure the battery cable stays in place when you put it back together. Mine moved on my first attempt, that is when I found the hole wasn't working. And if you buy a kit from eBay where they supply the Y screwdriver, the one I got didn't fit right. The tip is too long. I used a file to grind off a tiny bit of the tip and it fit much better. I had to apply a lot of force to keep the screwdriver from spinning and stripping the Y slots. Good luck, this is doable, really!

If you are doing a gear sport which is loosely based on the s3 I believe you need to release the motherboard from the battery holder go super careful though it will release after a while and you can fold it over this reveals the battery connector and the motherboard ribbon cable tear this and you have had it. bought replacement battery from amazon, as my s3 frontier was only holding charge for a few hours at best (3-5), swapped out battery per this video, was EXTREMELY careful with the battery pry off, (got it but took me about 10 mins of very gently prying with plastic wide blade spludge tool, was very careful as I saw that the mobo of the watch is VERY thin and possible to crack or break this pcb, but got it with no visible or audible damage to this pcb/mobo. put in new batt, and made sure that the small ribbon cable (fcc) from batt to where it is supposed to rest/be pushed/snapped into to hold in place, has 2 brass or brass looking contact plates/areas on it, that when returning pcb/mobo down into place, should make contact with. re-seated the 3 other (disconnected during teardown phase), ribbon/fcc cables to their respective connection points, gently aligned and pushed gently will finger till i felt an click or seat of sorts. then finished re-assembly and put on charger.... NOT CHARGING. did I miss anything? (also, made sure to be VERY gentle with the OTHER FCC/ribbon cable on other side of pcb, to not damage or tear this. BATTERY I PURCHASED is a 580mah batt, the original one is a 380mah batt, would this be a prob? for the charger.. not sure... also of note, while researching this (to replace batt) and afterwards, about finish of swap, found 1 person who had posted about if battery at 0% (zero percent), may not charge and his solution, (hold down power on button (while watch is in charger) for a good while, not sure if more than a minute or so, and it worked for him, screen flashed and then appeared to charge. I tried this and have not had any luck yet.... looking for other solutions to try. thanks in advance.

Does it maintain it's water resistance after you open it up that way so long as you put it back together correctly or do you have to treat it as a non water resistant watch after that?

Most water resistant technology have a sealant to prevent leakage. You either have to replace that sealant or don't let it near water.
