Great Video. Thanks for sharing. I was able to revive my Samsung S3 Frontier to its brand-new status once again. I had issues before replacing the battery, where it would be fully charged, and not able to last a full day. The day before I replaced the battery, it wouldn't even turn on. After 6 years, I guess the batteries life is complete. If I recharged it every night, that's over 2000 charges. I felt sad to part with the watch since it was still very functional. So glad that a simple battery replacement restored this watch to its original state. I suggest to follow the instruction very carefully. The pieces are extremely delicate, and you will need the right tools for the job. Thanks again for sharing this vide.

Thanks for the tutorial. I bought a used S3 Classic off of eBay for $20, got a new battery for < $10, and the battery life is like new. I like these watches because of the MST feature that the new ones don't have.

I know it's an old watch, but this video, helped me salvage a watch that a recently replaced for my wife. So she has a brand new latest model and I get a refurbished old model (but it's NEW to me and only cost me $15 for a new battery and a bit of frustration opening the case). THANK YOU SIR!!!

Thanks, great video. Just replaced my battery with no issues. Didn't realise how bad my old battery was. Lasted a couple of hours, then when put on charge shows approx 80% charge left. New battery fitted about 6hrs ago, and charge indicator hardly moved. Thanks again.

I can't see that you have mentioned the best screwdrivers to use. The kit I was supplied with had poorly made screwdrivers. I found the case needed the Tri-point Y00 and the Board needed a Philips PH000. At a pinch, the case screws can get away with size Y0. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The 0.6 x 30mm tri-wing, which was supplied with the battery replacement kit, started to strip the heads rather. These were sourced from AE. If I had replaced from your link I imagine the correct tools would have been sent. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful

Wenn der Akku der Uhr nicht mehr lange durchhält sollte man, bevor man die Uhr aufmacht, zunächst eine andere Prozedur durchführen. Durch eine jahrelange Benutzung und somit das Laden und Entladen, stimmen irgendwann die Kalibrierungsdaten des Akkus in der Uhr nicht mehr. Es gibt keinen Menüpunkt mit dem man die Uhr dazu veranlassen könnte eine neue Kalibrierung zu starten. Es sei man bringt die Uhr dazu die Hardware neu zu starten. Mit dem einachen Ausschalten geht das nicht! Um die Kalibrierung zu starten muss man die "Aus/Ein-Taste" (rechter unterer Drücker) für mindestens 10 Sekunden gedrückt halten, bis auf dem Bildschirm das Wort "Rebooting..." auftaucht. Damit startet die Hardware und Software der Uhr neu. Es wird nichts gelöscht! Aber die Uhr beginnt jetzt mit einem erneuten Kalibrieren. Der Kalibrierungsvorgang beginnt, wenn man die Uhr auf unter (!) 10% entlädt und danach vollständig (!!!) auflädt. Die Uhr ist erst vollständig aufgeladen, wenn in der Ladestation die grüne Lampe aufleuchtet, nicht wenn vorher schon 100% angezeigt werden. Damit ist der Kalibrierungsschritt vollzogen. Man kann diesen Schritt noch ein zweites Mal wiederholen (Entladen unter 10% und danach vollständiges Aufladen). Danach sollte der Akku wieder lange durchhalten. Ist das nicht der Fall, dann würde ich erst den Akku ausbauen und durch neuen ersetzen!

Fortunately the replacement kit only cost me $12. Unfortunately the two side small ribbon connections broke a d my new battery is worthless. Oh well. The watch lasted me 7 years, which is pretty awesome for a piece of tech these days. Cant really complain.

Dang, I'm having the problem that seems to be plagueing a lot of people with the gear s3 classic on the forums, where you replace the battery and the power button no longer works despite the screen working and updating battery percentage, and the back button turns on the screen to show the percentage, but the home button doesn't do anything, including turn on the watch.

@WeRepair i just looked up "gear s3 will charge but won't turn on after replacing battery" and the top link is a forum on IFixIt from 2019, and there's another forum from 2018. I'm hoping the connection just got bumped off when I was taking the first battery off, so I'm going to try to re-solder that and see if that fixes it. I was looking for a soldering project anyways, so we will see how it goes.

I did something wromg cause it does not turn on any more. Not with the old and not with the new battery. With the old it did work but the battery died within minutes. Now i cant turn on the watch at all any more with neither of the 2 batteries

Yeah the battery only lasts a little over a year or so in these. I'm surprised they don't make it easier to replace the battery, also why no rubber seal inside to keep the water resistance, seems like a poor design. I had to replace the battery in a moto 360 back in the day and it had gasket.

also, you should use a plastic spludger/pry tool between battery and pcb, as you could damage pcb traces or any surface mounted components... (I have been doing laptop and pc repair for a long time, just my observations, not bashing, but hoping for anyone else that may be watching, this may be helpful to avoid possible damage to their watch or other electronic device.)

hello there! does anybody know if when replacing the motherboard, the entire watch needs to be reprogrammed from an authorised service in order to make the new motherboard as an additional part to work with the other components of the watch and let it function properly? I was told so and I wonder if I can replace motherboard on my own or do I need to have that process done by Samsung inevitably....? thank you in advance!

You can do it on your own but it's a very tricky process. The parts are all universal so there are no restrictions on changing it.

@@WeRepair thank you for replying! I have disassembled the watch once before, and its electronics consists of following parts: 1. Screen 2. Battery 3. Motherboard. During the process, there are some cables that needed caution to get them disconnected, but other than that, I didn’t meet any other difficulty (as far as I remember). I see on online market sellers selling the whole spare part having motherboard, waiting to be connected only with other two mentioned parts above. Is it like that?

Good, simple instructions. However, the annoying background music is completely unnecessary, and annoying. Also, wearing a glove on the hand holding the watch is a good idea to prevent jamming a sharp tool into your flesh, if the tool were to slip off its intended spot.
