There is absolutely no need to face the sub driver to your listening position or else. You might want to check how low frequent waves behave in a room and you will see, that turning the Subwoofer will have no impact on its sound.

When the sub is rectangle, it is important (for me) that the sub is front facing. Because I placed my sub horizontally. I wouldn't be able to do that if the sub is side facing.

Great review! A few weeks ago I had the opportunity of a direct comparison between the 990b and 930b. My sound impression was, that the 990b has a little bit better subwoofer, a slightly wider soundstage and a better midrange sector. When I switched to the 990b the sound got more fullness. Vocals and Instruments had more body and sounded more refined. The result of the bigger size and the additional 5 speaker in the 990b is definitely hearable. It's not a huge difference, but for me it's an important difference. The 930b is also a very good soundbar and a great option, but in a direct comparison imO not as much impressive as the 990b. I therefore purchased the 990b and I am absolutely happy with it. So far I have no problems of disconnection at all.

Thanks for the review. It seems like a concerning number of purchasers are have serious and annoying connectivity problems. I wish this was mentioned. This is the only thing keeping me from purchasing this system. It seems to be hit and miss but not resolved by Samsung satisfactorily and has been going on for some time.

I purchased the Q930B for $800 at Best Buy and I really love it. It is a great addition to the q950a. I do miss the Auto EQ function and the width of this soundbar but I cant complain. It has a very easy set up and gets really loud after tuning in certain settings. Atmos and DTS:X seem upgraded as well. Also, thank God they put the settings on the front of the soundbar. Lol. Just got one a week ago( renewed by samsung,not a scratch everything factory wrapped saved 600.00$)i havent upped my sound bar in 12 yrs.( had the old sony with the black glass top and zero options for a sub or satellites) all i can say is wow.the little screen is hard to read other than that love the thing.no wires i have not experienced dropouts.thanks for the tip on the sub menu in the app for individual speaker fine tuning.just watched civil war avengers on disney with the imax enhanced,read the imax enhanced audio is still on the engineers plates but nonethe less ..crystal clear and the tv/ soundbar decoded it just fine.my suggestion to newbs get stands for the rears that way you can put them where you like without holes in your wall till you decide where.i think the upfire rear speakers work as intended on lower ceilings.i see no need to mount them up high...my 2 cents.

The bar it's louder after 11 you will notice For people in small apartments thank God there is a night mode I think the Disney movies can give you the best Atmos effect, like Eternals with the scene with Arishem talking to the girl

A) You can't put a driver capable of sub-bass frequencies on the front of that enclosure - if you really want it to face forward, just turn it on it's 'side' or whichever way the sub faces to the front. B) The display the top was to allow the front to remain dedicated to the speaker's drivers.

There’s a port on the back of the subwoofer, if you turn the enclosure, the port would be facing to the right which isn’t ideal. They had room on the front for the display, it was just easier to put it on top.

I recommend this soundbar to fire on tidal with dolby atmos music. Just remember that the TV must support it. With such recorded music, no stereo equipment in this amount has a chance with this soundbar. Of course, audio specialists will tell you otherwise because if you spend 5000 usd on equipment, sometimes you have to lie to reality that it is different :) of course, soundbar has no chance in stereo, but music recorded in atmos will break the stereo system even more at the same price :) I will add that the acoustics of the room are often less important here than in expensive loudspeakers.

Good review. I have the Q950A, and it would be nice to have the channel settings in the app for the Q950A too - maybe Samsung will update the app and firmware on the unit for us too. Doubt I need to upgrade, but good to see the new unit. Thanks for the video.

Standing close to the bar and looking at its top mounted display to change the channel levels that too with a remote is sometimes frustrating. Additionally, if Samsung wants, they can add spacefit sound to Q950A bar natively since it has microphones installed already for Alexa.. If they add all these features through OTA... it would be great!

That’s a hard choice honestly! It kind of depends on your room layout. If you have optimal positioning, then I’d probably go with the Q990B, if not and you’d like a little more bass, then go with the A9 and a SW5. I wouldn’t want to the A9 without the SW5 sun though, so keep that in mind. Massive price difference there as well.

So, I deal with a LOT of customers, especially older customers, who accidentally change settings and "break" their TVs or soundbars. I think putting some of the advanced menus behind the 3 dots prevents some of that. I work in a Best Buy, and this is just a guess. Great review. I just picked this up over a week ago. I was hesitant to buy it, given the price. For the listed $2300CDN, you could scour eBay or a local marketplace for a solid used AVR surround system. But I got it for nearly $1000 less from a local retailer. It's worth every penny, even at full price. My only issue is that the soundbar audio cuts out repeatedly while watching KZbin. I'm still trying to figure out if it's a KZbin app thing, or a TV thing (Hisense 65U8G). I've read this bar (and older models) don't like Samsung TVs. The immersive surround experience AND the clarity are unmatched in the soundbar market, without spending double or triple. I highly recommend this system.

I have a confusion with the placement of the speakers. The one that says right side is placed on the right from the television and to my right sitting in front of the television I wait for your answer and the other question is if my tv only has dolby digital, the bar will not work in dolby Atmos?

Thank you for the review, it was very helpful. As much as I want to get the Q990B to pair with my QN900B, I will wait until the next year model is out when it can support 4k/120 hz HDMI 2.1 passthrough + fix the rear speakers disconnecting issues (chip). Right now I pair the tv with the Vizio Elevate P series soudnbar and it is more than good enough for now. I have been using the Elevate for about 7 months and it has never given me any issues. I do hate the Vizio app, which is trash compares to the SAMSUNG Things app.

Vizio will probably release both new P series tvs and sound bars using the new mediatek chip at once. The 2022 M series sound bar has HDMI 2.0 only as well.

I'd love to get this sound bar but I've been looking at the specs of my current TV an LG SK8500. It unfortunately appears to only have 4x 2.0 ARC HDMI. Not eArc. So I'm wondering if I bought this sound bar would I be able to get proper Dolby atmos with it. As much as I'd love to get this sound bar I couldn't justify buying a new TV just to make the sound bar work fully. I've had two TVs in the last 6 years

You have Hdmi inputs on the soundbar also, so if you connect for example apple tv, cable box etc you get the best sound this way

And after looking in the sound settings of my xbox and seeing I needed to install a Dolby Atmos app in it I finally got it to show Atmos on the front display.

For what it’s worth, in my opinion the sound of the Bose is stellar in a small to mid-size living room. Dialogue in movies/videos is unparalleled for the price. The only negative to me is that it lacks a solid left/right channel separation experience. Just about everything sounds like it’s coming from the center.

Hi Jonah, I have a Sonos Arc with 2 one, and I should get the sub 3, but with Sony TV, PS5 and Samsung smartphone, I'm thinking of changing to Q990b: my doubt, however, remains the 4K 120 passthrough, which I would have with a HT A9, which I could perhaps adapt better in the irregular living room: for example Ones often appear disconnected from the main bar Arc especially in gaming, on the other hand they are quite present on the dialogues: do you have any suggestions? No problems here either. It seems sensitive to certain routers nearby for as far as I can read. People having issues could try to see if it helps when moving things around a bit, disabling radio signals and stuff like that. But there are also a lot of defective devices I suppose.

Hello.. May i ask you for solution? I have plan to buy SONY HT S20R which have HDMI ARC in it. and i have RX 6600 AMD GPU at home. If i hook HDMI cable to ARC on Sony to my GPU, will sound work with surround 5.1 ?

Hi guys. I have a old LG 5.1 home cinema set up (HX976TZW), with 5 individual speakers. Do you think I will hear much of a difference upgrading to a modern sound bar surround system, specifically the Samsung Q990B? Thanks for any input.

Definitely, I also upgraded from an older 5.1 setup and this is on a whole other level, especially when playing Dolby Atmos content. The sound field is so seamless, you'll have to experience it to understand it. Sound seems to come from every direction, not just from the rear left or the front right (for example), that's the sound bubble everyone is talking about. And the sound is crystal clear, you can hear every bell and chime. It's also amazing how wide the front sound field can be, coming from just a bar. It sounds way, way wider and it amazes me how this is possible without having speakers in those positions every time again. I don't think you'll regret it. It can pay of to try and find it cheaper though, I got mine for as low as 900 euro (Netherlands), which is an absurdly low price for the quality it delivers.

Perhaps someone can advise me. Is there a standard setting I can change that will prevent super loud music and action scenes and barely audible dialogue. I have to watch with the sound control in hand, constantly adjusting. Thanks!
