Video shows how to dissassemble and swap an internal hard drive in a samsung N-130 netbook.
When you're going to do this at your own take care of electrostatic discharge precautions.
Choosing a replacement drive take into account the noise. You can get information about the hard drive noise from tests, reviews and specification papers.

My N130 from 2009 is still going strong. I'm going to put in an old SSD soon to give it a boost. Thanks for the video.

I haven't done my N130 yet, but I did my 5 year old Windows 7 Samsung gaming laptop a couple of months ago. I put a Samsung 850 EVO SSD in it... the cloning process was done in 20 minutes and it worked perfectly.

I am looking for a video that shows and explains how to replace the BIOS battery in this particular Samsung model. Thank you for opening the netbook and showing us its parts! This way, I have an idea of what to do when I open it up. May I ask you where is the BIOS battery located here? I can't seem to find it. Thanks so much for your help; I'm always so grateful for people like you who take their time to do something good for others

The CMOS battery is located at the opposite side of the motherboard. It's secured with a piece of tape and connected via a two wire connector to the pcb. After like 10 years I'm still using this netbook on daily basis. However, I needed to replace the HDD twice and I need to lubricate the fan like every fiew years. Todays web services seem to slow down the user experiance by uploading tons of processing power demanding scripts and multimedia files. Windows XP which is the original OS still does work just fine. I only use portable versions of programms to avoid installing anything. The mechanical design seem to approach it's usability deadline - the hinges are weared out, battery (the original, which still holds like two hours or so) holders broke off and the keyboard keys now got a shiny look after countless hits with the fingers.

@@dobroslawja Thank you SO MUCH, for your explanation! Wow, your computer is a fighter! Unfortunately, mine runs windows 7 Starter and it has slowed down a lot. I also cannot update windows firewall or other windows functions, so I can't use it very much. I will have to find a way to update windows, but I don't know if thiss model supports windows 8 or 10 :( Anyway, thanks again, for the help and the chat =)

@@weirdsister3 I've bought it with WinXP, never tried or wanted to upgrade, because of reasons you've cited (W7 slows it down significantly). I've installed 2GB RAM module, but there was no noticable improovment in speed or user experiance under WinXP. Several times I booted this netbook from an usb key with linux. Back in the day the support for wlan was not that easy, but one distro had managed to use windows drivers for the wlan hw using a special wrapper. I deinstalled virus scanner and I've never used a firewall. I use adblock insteed for firefox and I switch off javascript when surfing webpages I don't trust. Type Samsung N130 windows 10 as keywords - you'll find some footage. Don't bother to install w8 - this OS is a disaster.

@@dobroslawja This is really exciting - I've just found mine at the back of a wardrobe and I'd love to get it going again. Unfortunately the CMOS has gone so I fear I'll be having to watch your video a few times to help!! I'm going to upgrade it to 2GB just because I can and would certainly like to put an SSD in.

@dobroslawja I have this exact model and yesterday replaced it with an SSD 240gb Kingston. However the BIOS seems to not detect it. I installed Xubuntu i386 on it and the install program detected without problems but once installed, could not find the disk, also, it doesn't appear listed in the boot settings (the hard disk says "N/A" and "IDE channel 0". Could be that I need to update the BIOS for correct detection? Do I need WXP for doing it? Thanks in advance.

Will the N130 run with an SSD without any problems?
@dobroslawja
@dobroslawja 6 жыл бұрын
It will run faster and it will be much less loud. Also it should survive accidental drops or mechanical shocks. You need an imaging tool to transfer the old HD content to the new one like clonezilla (its free). Hovever SSD also wear out with the time. You should take backups to have your data in case of a failure.

Can i swap The Intel Atom with a Intel Pentium Dual Core T4500?
@dobroslawja
@dobroslawja 6 жыл бұрын
The atom is soldered directly to the pcb, there is no socket, dual core is a different processor with diferrent pinout and IC casing which requires also a different chipset, for all those reasons a swap is impossible

Can anyone tell me what type of SSD model and form I need to be compatible with the N130? Does it improve the performance enough to make it worthwhile keeping it for word processing and internet? Finally, would it be better with win xp or win 7

If you don't need more than 120 gb it may be worth it. Spend 20 bucks on any standard 120gb ssd. Then install windows 7, XP is too outdated for aour time being.
