@@TheNicosmik I'm a happy owner of a Samsung QN85A. If picture is blueish on any mode, you're not setting it properly. Do not use standard picture modes, especially on games. If you set it to the warmest color temperature and use auto color space instead of native, you'll have accurate natural colors on any Samsung TV.

Finally, a reviewer who understands that an overly bright picture loses definition. So many people without the expertise have jumped on the doing reviews bandwagon, that it’s becoming difficult to find good reviews. Yes, brighter looks better in a quick A B comparison, but gets fatiguing in a long movie. Just like too much treble in an audio component.

Excellent video. Oddly enough the thing I love about the C the most is what people are complaining about, the ips panel. I think the ips panel is what really makes this tv pop & glow. I know samsung tried it before with the 85b but that tv that didn't have the brightness to really pop over competitors, this one does. Honestly I think the C is the closest to Oled I've seen for any mini led tv, And I just saw it side by side to x93l and lg's miniled. I was not that impressed by those, but the qn90c definitely stood out to me so much that I thought it was an Oled when I first saw it.

_shrug_ I have a QN90B and I legit don't notice blooming. Coupled with the additional punchiness of LEDs it's perfect for my bright ass living room, and I'm glad I got it over the C2. I also don't mind the rainbow effect, having had the regular glare my whole life, the rainbow effect is also not really noticeable, in fact to me it's "fancy" in how it disperses reflections lol especially when watching something, you're not going to notice a rainbow over a straight up glare. If you're shopping for either of these TVs and are concerned about pricing, I noticed the 75" QN90B going for the price of what it went for last year (when it debuted) with the employee discount ($1999), and the QN90C is going for $1919 with the discount. Make of that what you will, but you really can't go wrong with either of these TVs, especially if you're getting it for a bright enough room, you really, truly aren't going to notice any blooming whatsoever. It's important to remember that these videos are shot to show the comparison, but in the real world, you wouldn't have those conditions all the time.

It’s because he’s testing at an angle. I have a 43 inch QN90b and if viewing head on the blooming is very difficult to spot. The 43 inch does have a narrow viewing angle though because it doesn’t have the wide viewing angle filter, but this improves native contrast so it might be less reliant on local dimming (especially as I have to keep the screen brightness to a minimum at night while sitting closer).

I just got an LG C3, but it can't get nearly as bright. Most other content looks almost identical. Would the QN90C in a 65" be a good upgrade or at least even with my QN90A? Or just get the used QN90A?

I have with qn90b in the livingroom and qn90c in bedroom and honestly I prefer the qn90b due to the superior contrast and colours. Plus I find the local dimming better on the qn90b. Clearly VA panels are better than IPS. My advice would be save the money and get the qn90b as its slightly better overall.

I just watch this video and now I am looking at TV's all over again/ {lol} . I have been shopping for another tv for a long time . Until watching this I was fairly sold on the QN90b , but your video made it very clear the 'c' might be a better choice . Have you done a QN90c vs S95c head to head ? I must search , if not please consider it !! I mainly watch streamed content and movies and I need to add I use any tv as a monitor for my Mac Mini that. I am using to watch and comment on the video. My only tv in my home at. present is a 10 year + old ? Samsung F8000 _ 3D - 46" . It still is a very good tv for what it was designed to do. The main board failed after only 4 months and with much effort I finally got Samsung to replace it free of charge and the tv has been calibrated perfect ever since . Every tv I have owned and will own gets used , a lot -- I am taking some days 20 hours + use. On average my tv is either serving as monitor or for movie and streaming . I like the look of OLED's however I still am concerned about the effects of static image retention/burn-in over time. I would like to find another ' work horse ' tv . I have X950H and upgrading to QN90C was mostly notable in SDR content and improved viewing angles. The Netflix HDRs looked the same to me. Or even a bit more blooming on QN90C. I was surprised how good the Sony's dimming algorithms are considering it has far less dimming zones.

This review had me very interested in the QN90C. I have the QN90A at the moment, so the best idea would be to hold out until the QN90C drops in price. Interesting is that your review approves this TV with great deep blacks, and well-controlled blooming or almost no blooming at all. Fantastic review and comparison! There has been a lot of hate thrown at the QN90C because of the switch to an ADS panel. Everything that I have read about the panel types led me to similar doubts for the QN90C. However, you address this very issue and show that it really has not impacted performance in any negative way. And the elimination of the rainbow affect is definitely a bonus. Seems like Samsung really was able to deliver the best of both worlds: great contrast and reduced reflections/improved off-angle. It will be very interesting to see how the QN95C, with its VA panel, fairs against the QN90C.

​@@Marcus_Sylvester -IPS is LG's trademark name for their in-plane switching panels, Samsung cannot call their panel IPS so they call it ADS instead- Edit: I was misinformed about the info above, they have different engineering. But no, it doesn't have better contrast compared to VA. Native contrast is much lower on this type of panel leading to lighter blacks than VA; where ADS will be more reliant on its dimming zone control to achieve blacks, so instances where dimming zones don't perform ideally ADS will show inferior black performance and significantly more bleed. But it has advantages such as much superior uniformity and viewing angles improvements. But no, it's no "game changer", it still has trade-offs.

I have some doubts. ADS panels were used in QN85A/QN85B series as well and difference in contrast/blacks was quite obvious in favor to VA based QN90A/QN90B. But then some magic happened and QN90C with ADS became better in that regard. The same number of dimming zones but native contrast is worse on ADS. What is the cause of improvements?

that witcher EOTF example was great I never understood what that meant but the rtings review said the 90B was crap at it. Still can't figure out why they say "overall the 90B is better." I think like many they just hate the idea of a non VA panel. But this man speaks the truth. I do have a question though, I will be using this in PC mode with VRR enabled all the time. Is there any situation where the poor native contrast on the 90C would pop up, or is local dimming on all the time no matter what the mode or input source is? I know you said you can only disable local dimming in the service menu, but I'm wondering if that applies to all modes and inputs. I just recall seeing reviews on TVs before where using VRR or PC mode will make local dimming worse, usually just in terms of ghosting. I just don't want to be in a situation where I set everything up and then all my blacks look bluish/grey because local dimming doesn't work in PC mode so I'm left with the poor native contrast and have to exchange it for a 90B.

The blooming in the John Wick still, for instance is down to the algorithm aggressively dimming the area and IPS panels nature. However the 50 & 43 inch are VA panels so this won't be the same across the range. And the blacks will be better in general on the previous models (QN90B) and the 50 & 43 inch QN90C's.

Is it possible to disable HDR tone mapping completely on QN90B and manually calibrate it using colorimeter and 20 point calibration to make EOTF tracking as accurate as it is on the 90C, or is there something that would prevent me from doing that?

No it's not. Also a colorimeter by itself wouldn't be accurate and would need a spectro to profile it.

Now I'm looking to do the same for my wife's PC but with QLED, and was close to pulling the trigger on QN90B expecting I'd be able to make it behave as an HDR reference monitor (essentially HGIG), in the same way I did A95K, but information on if this is possible is near impossible to come by. Would you have a recommendation for a QLED that would allow for this?

@@mariokotlar303 any display will need a spectro in order to make the colorimeter have accurate readings. As far as HGiG, only LG does it correctly. If you just want to have it follow EOTF correctly, the Samsung 2023 C models are decent, Sony's X90 or X95 series do that well, and LGs QNED85 is pretty good.

I would tell you to go to a store and look at the TVs that have your interest and go from there. While I like the PQ on OLEDs, I def prefer the brighter panels on miniLED. My room is also brightly lit so OLED wouldn't be good.

Hello, I'm in the process of upgrading my TV, I have three in mind and would really appreciate your input. I'm looking for an 85" Mini-LED under $3,000. My current options are the QM8 for $2,200, the QN90B at 2,300, or since watching this video, wait on the QN90C to drop under 3,000 by Black Friday. The QM8 is a beast but with a few issues, like the poor processing, Dolby Vision issues and EOTF is off in HDR making it very bright when it shouldnt be. The QN90B seems to have the rainbow effect, blooming, color washout and EOTF issues. THE QN90C seems nice, but current 3,500, over 1,000 more than the other two. What would you recommend? Wait for the QN90C to drop price, specially if purchased at Costco, with the 5 yearwarranty? Or is there another option that I failed to observed on my path for a new TV? I currently do mostly streaming, sports, shows and movies. In the future I may be open to gaming, but probably just consoles, nothing too crazy.

Id say wait for the QN90C, or call Value Electronics for no tax and free shipping outside of NY. Or call Chris at Cleveland Plasma for no tax, shipping, and hundreds of but not an "authorized seller".

How is the color gamut compared to the QN90B? Both rec2020 and P3 on the QN90B were a downgrade from the QN90A according to RTINGS, curious to see what the QN90C scored in its most accurate mode.

Torn- 85 QN90B is $2300. I was thinking 77 c2. Basement TV. Movies and gaming. If 77 LG comes down soon, not sure if the larger size of the Samsung would be better. I already have a OLED for main tv.

I just bought the 65" QN800B for $1500. The QN800C is currently $3500. In my opinion, these newer C models are not anywhere near enough of an improvement over last year's B models to warrant spending such a huge amount more.

Really wish you would have spent some time on display of TEXT. The problem is that there are zero actual monitors available at >43" for 2160p. TV's are much better for just image viewing (which you are focusing on) but generally they suck at RGB text display. In reality would really love a larger actual monitor, but no OEM makes them so have to really look at these reviews to see what can be put to use.

This one would be great for text because it has an RGB subpixel layout which is what windows is built to work with. Although even with a different layout like BGR, you can enable cleartype and windows can adjust itself to a different subpixel structure.

Yeah, the difference in price is huge. And tbh, literally everybody is saying, that QN90B (or 91-94 in Europe) was literally a mini Downgrade from QN95C, while QN90C (and all its variants) is only a mini upgrade from QN85C. This is basically the only test, that has the QN90C at front.
