Up until the Note 4, the back popped off with a mere pry of the fingernail, and you could not only replace the battery in 5 seconds, you could carry a spare with you, so you never had to worry about needing to find a wall. I had an external charging tray, so I never even plugged my phone in, I just rotated 3 batteries through it. I could go camping, read books, bring movies on extra SD Cards. It was freedom. Samsung saw that Mac Cult iDiots were replacing their devices with every new release, while Note users would skip a model, as their phones would retain their lifespan. Steve Jobs had been quite open, and proudly stated that the reason their processors were sealed in, was so that computer users couldn't upgrade them on their own. He said that he was frustrated that even then, that non-power users would use computers for web browsing after "he" thought they should be buying a new computer from him (which is a stupid idea anyway, when it was so easy to just swap in a bigger drive, more ram, etc.) He proudly took credit with the idea of sealing in batteries, so that "he" got to decide when it was time for a user to replace their computer (and now phone.) Now we're buying "premium" disposable, designed to die products, made by slaves, which are poisoning the earth an it's people at "recycling centers" where people burn out components, and dump refuse in the river. The children their suffer from eye problems, and lead poisoning, and their water is black, and undrinkable.

@@pryingeyes1551 I know its ridiculous. I absolutely hate it. I am on battery 3 of my Note 3, had it for little over 5 years, partially out of hatred of the idea of a phone I can't easily fix myself to extend its life. But as an artist the Note phone is perfect for me on the go, so I don't want anything else. Cheaper phones still have removable backs but guess if you want a better device they assume you're rich enough for a new one every 2 years. (And that doesn't even address the digital waste issues you mention which is a problem with our disposable culture everywhere in appliances and electronics. Companies design things to fail after a time and not to last.)

Yea they didn't design it (or any premium phone nowadays with these stupid wireless charge backings) to be changed out easily. They just assume you'll be getting a new one in 2-3 years. Even though the tech easily can last 5-6 years on high end phones (my note 3 still plays youtube, browses web, no lag issues. The tech is still keeping up longer since it was top of the line in 2014.)
