I just returned this tv to my neighbor who is on a disability pension and couldn't afford a new set .He is absolutely thrilled to say the least. Many thanks to 12voltvids for saving it from the scrappers, and making this informative video to help others save their tv's . The picture is absolutely fantastic!

You're welcome. I love the plasma sets for their picture quality. Even though this is a 720 set, the picture is still excellent.

Great instructions! My TV is mounted outside, and while my testing didn't determine the board was bad, I guess the action of unplugging and re-plugging all ribbon cables gave better contact, and now it is working again!

Thank goodness you were able to get the replacement board at last, BTW if you are after a output transformer for the Electrohome radio then get the output transformer that is used in valve based guitar amps.

I am old school as well, repair vs replace, alas the world has changed...I watch a guy that does board level repairs for Mac Laptops, and he is always ranting about how Apple makes it harder and harder to repair their products. A skilled electronics pro at your fingertips used to be as important as a good plumber, now we just throw stuff away :( Nice repair.
@FindLiberty7 жыл бұрын
COMPONENT level repairs, not board level. Probably, that guy you watch is Louis Rossmann. He is very helpful and shows exactly how repairs are made. I love his "rants". Louis sells tools/parts/supplies too. _(he "hates" Apple repair policy/parts/prices/way they deal with customers, but he loves the fact that Apple makes his business possible/profitable. Apple owners love him for coming to their rescue!)_
@12voltvids7 жыл бұрын
Got news for you, I do component level repairs. Go look at the Sony XBR6 where I TS and replaced the gama correction ship, and all I had was people telling me I should just change the TCON board. I did troubleshoot the board to the actual component and point it out at 2:45, but why waste time changing the chip when the cost of the entire board is so cheap. If the board is not available, or it cost 100.00 or more then sure, but with a readily available board this is the way to do it, and a board replacement is something anyone can do once they know how to test the board and find out which one is the problem. I guarantee you that someone watching this will have the same problem, watch the diagnostic test, find that their board is bad, and replace it and their TV is fixed. I seriously doubt that that the average hobbiest would attempt a SMD IC replace. They will watch the video, and then go and buy the entire board because they do not have the skill or equipment to do it. I don't have a hot air station, or hot plate, or a microscope because this is NOT my business. I used to do this work full time. I left back in 2003 and now work for the phone company spending my days working on copper and fiber optic networks. I only do this work part time now. I try to do it all using common tools that most hobbyists will have on hand.

U R great 12voltvids, yes I know, not new news to me, I agree 100% . Your repair here was PERFECT ...thanks again for the great tip on testing for shorted chips right at the connectors! _My response was to Unkyjoe's Playhouse who also remembers the good old days: _ _*_Louis Rossmann does SMD *COMPONENT LEVEL_*_ (not board level, as stated) repairs to Mac Laptops since working replacement boards are not available and/or way too expensive; they're almost the cost of buying a new Apple and Apple repair costs are even more of an outrage. And that's Rossmann's main _*_repair_*_ business niche, _thank$ to Apple._

Oh I know you do, I have watched most of your vids, Louis "mentioned above" does them as well, he just bitches more during his repairs :)

I have done many component level repairs, and if the board was 100.00 that would be an option, but when the entire board is 18.00 why fuck around changing parts. I did that on my KDL37XBR6, cut the bad gama correction chip out with a razor blade, and stuck a new one in. Why? Because that board was over 100.00 and the chip 1.82.

I bought a defective PS51F5570 (2013) for dirty cheap, the Panel itself looks without any damage, in the inside it looks almost as this one except the Y sus and Y buffer are separated and also the Power and X are. It also blinks every 4 or 5 seconds and the faulty board is Y sus, it has a blown TPC8407 IC, Q5005, 2 shorted transistors and maybe some more components so I've decided to buy a whole board instead. I hope the board comes next week but I'm also concerned about vertical lines that might appear. If there are some lines than I have to be lucky to have only some unbonded COF ribbon cables on the vertical address board :-)

@BlackBullPistol3 жыл бұрын
@@borndifferentnf1 Yo hey. Yes in my case it was a faulty Y board, after replacing it the TV was working fine. The only issue that I couldn't solve were the vertical colored lines because the panel itself is made low quality. I did not know at the time that many newer Plasma TV's had one and the same problem and that's because manufacturers are cheap mofos. Older Plasma TV's have no Panel problems whatsoever, I have also a Samsung TV from 2007 and has 0 problems. I'm looking into Oled TV's these days cuzz the prices did come down quite extensively :-)

They use a ZIF socket. Lift the release tab and they lift out or slide out easily.

I would say it's repaired. When I brought this tv to Dave it wasn't working, and now it does, and he made it work by replacing a faulty component that cost me a mere $17.00 . Do you think he should have spent several hours trying to replace the shorted IC at a minimum $100.00 an hour ? I can get a working 43 inch plasma off of Craigslist right now for $150 Canadian. Do the math.
