I have Galaxy Book 3 paired with S23U and Tab s8+ and have been using both for a while. As soon as Nearby Share came out i got it and it is far far far far more reliable and fast. Quick sharing to a laptop is a hit or miss case. It works better between tab and phone.

Quickshare must've done better but it's the opposite. I liked the nearby shares features like showing speed and option to choose file within the app. Samsung must work on with their ones as they are the one who first brought it to Samsung Books. Aslo it's them who are know to be more feature and option packed

I don’t get it. Can someone explain the difference between: Wi-Fi ONLY and Without Internet Assuming neither is sending the file to a server … so one is using Wi-Fi Direct device to device while the other setting is using local wifi network? If so it’s a misleading term as neither is using “the internet” it’s just a matter of using your router behind you’re firewall to send the file vs direct device to device.

With internet meaning from the router and without Internet banking WiFi direct. Nearby share requires Bluetooth turned on to get it working, quick share doesn't. I try nearby share by disconnecting from the WiFi because I tried quick share it works all the time even if you don't have router.

Now compare with the Phone Link sharing option. They just recently added the ability to do it with Windows 11 from what I saw in my latest Windows update. I get the early updates so not sure if everyone has it, yet. It's pretty fast. I transferred a 650MB movie from my phone to my PC via Wi-Fi direct getting close to 250 Mbit/s. It will show up if you have Phone Link enabled on your Android phone and have it installed on your PC when you go to share a file.

Nearby Share has two modes of transfer - bluetooth only(v4.0+), and WiFi Direct + Bluetooth discovery(v5.0+) NS will choose either depending on capability of both client and server device - Whether WiFi is on/exists or not etc... Quick Share only has one mode of transfer, WiFi Direct + BT(v5.0+). That's why it's so picky about what WLAN module is being used.

I don't think any of the options mean there is no wifi included in the transfer process. "Without internet" probably means there is no server connection, but the wifi connection between the devices is used. But I see your point, it's not totally clear.

@petigubi he did 2 test, first with the option "use only wifi" and the second test was without that option enabled. Right now there are a lot of apps like it made by different OEMs, if I remember correctly there is a version made by Xiaomi and another one used by the BBK companies (Realme, OPPO, OnePlus). Android has the amazing thing of being open source, but sometimes they should collaborate to create a software/feature to "rule them all" with a common protocol but maybe just a different UI according each vendor, at least for those things that must be available on every single Android device.

I think it's more of an Apple thing. Because if they would bring Nearby Share on Mac laptops, a lot of people would start to benchmark it with AirPlay. @@ifrankenstein7455 I meant AirDrop, btw. My point is that it's not Google fault if this software is not available on Mac and iPhone.
