I have a S24 Ultra and Nikon dSLR with multiple lenses. The best camera is the one you have on you... If I had a poor camera phone I would probably would have 80% less treasured photos as I would not have had my dSLR with me. I have some printed photos in my dining room and most people can't tell which was taken on dSLR vs S20 (phone at the time). As you say the ease of actually using them on social media etc is another big plus. Don't get me wrong, when you look closely or zoom (or crop) you can definitely tell the difference (as you illustrate here) so for trips or special occasions the dSLR is always the camera of choice. Sports photography too. So long story short. Get both :)

The physical size of the sensor does its thing, in the case of the comparison between the Canon mirrorless camera and the S24 ultra. I don't believe smartphones will ever be in a position to take better detailed photos than mirrorless cameras, unless they make a smartphone that weighs 350 or 400 grams 😄😄😄

Its pretty much the same. Smartphone sensors outclassed by 1 inch, the 1inch outclassed by micro 3/4, micro 3/4 outclassed by apsc, apsc outclassed by fullframe and the latter outclassed by medium format. There's little how much a.i and processing can do when the physical image sensor is limited. Anothed is the actual lens with the amount glass element and amount of light it can let in and the advantage if it is a prime lens. But again the average viewers always liked excessive processed and heavily contrasted photos.

Great review! But there's error in sensor size comparison 8:18 APS-C sensor size for R50 (1:1.6 crop factor) is about 22.7mm X 15.1mm = 342mm² 1.3" sensor for Galaxy S24 Ultra is about 9.8mm x 7.3mm = 71.54 mm² So the actual sensor size is about 4.7 times bigger Btw I wish I could see the comparison using galaxy s24 ultra's 200MP mode

Idk why people keep going comparing mirrorless traditional camera against with S24 ultra, its not ever the best cameraphone on market (see dxomark ranking), things like iphone 16 pro max / google pixel 9 XL do way better. Samsung just keep going aim to pop effect with vivid unnatural presentation, that is very fine for wow effect on small display, social stuff, ... That said still impressive results for a mobile, with limitations as cant weight more the 220 -230 grams , must do 100 things, first of all as a mobile 😅 So actually as somebody said at the end of the day u will take most of ur pics everyday everywhere with a mobile, but when really need do GOOD pictures , special occasions so on, u pick up that dslr

Why is this even a comparison? It's simple physics. Can a smaller bucket hold more water than a larger bucket ?obviously not. Anybody expecting the phone to take a better picture or a better video than an actual DSLR is living in a Fool's paradise. When a phone camera gets better it's simply because the software processing of that is getting better not because the sensors are getting better. The day we see a one in sensor yes that might make a huge difference especially to low light photography until then keep dreaming on. dreaming on
