I had this problem with my microwave and all the other repair videos were just temporary fixes. You've got it figured out man. Your the greatest! The wife and I had planned to get a new microwave today but you got me fixed up last night. Thanks

After watching several of these "how to fix the Samsung 5e errors" I came to the conclusion that there was one common element. Most of the 'solutions' involved different 'fixes' but one common action. The action was the removal of the cables from the control panel. I removed the grill from the top of the microwave,(2 screws), then removed the panel (1 screw). I left the power on and carefully unplugged each connector on the control panel board until I found the one that supplied power. I knew I had the correct wire connector when the panel went blank, I waited about 10 seconds and then plugged it back in. The panel 'rebooted' similar to a computer and now works. Simply unplugging power from the wall wouldn't work, you had to remove the connector from the board which reset the panel. The whole procedure took about 5 minutes.

Perfect and simple, thank you! Most of the other videos for this problem involved unplugging the control panel and some even went so far as to disconnect the keypad and cleaning everything. After going through all of this some people had the problem return shortly after. I think what happened is that when they pulled out the ribbon cable, it pulled apart and this stopped the short but then returned to the SE or 5E error soon after. I think putting an insulator (the piece of paper mentioned in the video) between the ribbon cable where it overlaps is the answer to this. At least it worked for me. Thanks - gotta love the 'net!!!

Hey thanks for the second explanation. I too had se of doom! Cheap Samsung! As you noted 1.I found the ribbon cable and 2.I peeled back the red sticker spacer that helps the ribbon cable connect firmly with ribbon slot. 3.I folded a sticky note in half and placed it between the ribbon cable and the now peeled back red sticky spacer. I made sure the sticky note spacer was the same width as the ribbon cable. 4. I folded red spacer back to the ribbon cable and connect it back to microwave! PRESTO FIXED! Thanks Buddy! Instructions I used are above.

Your solution seems different than what's in the video. Did you basically increase the thickness of the spacer to achieve better contact?

Hey guys watched several videos on this subject. When I opened it up it was coated in what smelled like bacon grease. So I cleaned all the connectors and put a piece of paper between the ribon cable. Don't recommend taking the key pad cover off. The Ole beauty works perfect now. Thanks for the videos.

jjthetechguy now the error is back, any idea what could be wrong?

Hi Sara, there was a post earlier this month to disconnect the microwave to reset all of the capacitors. You can try that. My microwave eventually stopped working after about 7 years so I saved up and purchased a replacement.

Sorry for my ignorance. I understood the process but I just want to know we're that ribbon is located. Thanks in advance.
@jjthetechguy8 жыл бұрын
+Aldo Hiciano You have to take the control panel off and the ribbon cable will be behind there. I you are not comfortable opening up the control panel then I would not recommend that you do this since there are extremely dangerous parts behind the control panel that can be life threatening (they are farther back and away from the control panel but I figure you should still know). If you do want to open it then there are other videos on KZbin that will show you how to do this. Once you get to the ribbon cable you may insert electrical tape or a piece of paper in between the ribbon. Hope this helps.

+jjthetechguy Hey jj, thanks. Did it and problem solved. No SE error since that day. Don't know how long will the fix last, but for now I'm making popcorns every day, Yupiiiii!

Do not make the same mistake I did. I was honest and told Samsung that I cleaned the control panel and now they will NOT fix it because I voided the warranty. I will never purchase another Samsung product as long as I live !!

The problem is only dirty contacts on the ribbon connector. Remove from socket. Clean with "contact cleaner" and reassemble. Quick permanent fix.
