Today sitting on toilet.. me thinking "what's inside of my T7? is it maybe a small nvme mounted on an nvme-usbc-adapter?" thanks for answering & saving my time :D

the best ssd is the one you can make yourself, a fast m.2 usb adapter (between 10gbps and 40gbps) and you can buy 1TB Nvme for super cheap nowadays. faster and more reliable and WAY better value than anything else on the market.
@benchmonster48632 жыл бұрын
Nice, saved me the time of doing it. I wasn't sure if there was an m.2 inside perhaps a 2260 or even 2240
@charleshines15532 жыл бұрын
That would be in the T5s if they didn't change them and that was mSata. I saw a teardown vid on one. The nice thing about teardowns like these is you get some idea what you might get, even if you might never tear one down.

Samsung T5 can be taken out, it is an msata drive inside it and you can use an msata to 2.5" adapter to put it into any computer. Samsung T7 as you see in this video is just one board with nothing removable.

Damn, they can make the thermal better actually
@uzaiyaro7 ай бұрын
The thermals are fine. The only chip that cares about getting hot is the SSD controller and maybe USB controller to a lesser extent. NAND actually likes being hot for some reason so they don’t need to be cooled. In fact most SSDs have a heat spreader label, not a heat sink. This is to cool the controller down but warm the NAND up.
@uzaiyaro7 ай бұрын
I tore down an old T5 that I regret tearing down, because it still worked, but it was just an eSATA SSD on a board with a USB controller. I’m sure the SSD still works, it’s just in bits and would need a new case.
@B33FY201126 күн бұрын
I have had this SSD for about 2 years and never had any problems with it at all. I was a bit bummed out to find it was chip based rather than SATA, though. I tried using it as a Windows 11 boot drive, and no matter what I do, Windows will just not let me boot from it. I cloned my main OS HDD on to it, and i got BSOD with the error inaccessible boot device. I then tried a clean install to which Windows wouldn't accept it as a boot device either. I know there are ways of getting it working but some of the ways i have found are no longer usuable. I opened it up hoping it was just a SATA in enclosure so I could put it directions in as an internal but that isnt an option for me now.

@@kahuna1247 I'd rather have a standard SATA or m.2 SSD internally which gives you more control of your data on the device. The whole point of these portable SSDs are to back up your data externally from the computer and having it proprietary like this takes away your control of the data on the device

@@fromthesnow Its more the safety aspect that matters most, everything hangs on that usb connector not snapping.
@Ash_180375 ай бұрын
@@fromthesnow A SATA or m.2 SSD does NOT give you any more *control* over your data, just more flexibility and arguably more reliability eg. if your enclosure fails the SSD can be moved to a new one.
