Yep! A Samsung T5 oddly enough. But I wasnt exactly sure why. It could have been my fault. Sometimes a USB Cable/Drive gets disconnected before you eject it, though this is usually easy to fix. Not sure why this one failed though But - I do have a disk repair tip. 😀 I have a Macbook 16" split 50/50 MacOs and Windows 10 on a bootcamp partition. I've found that if a problematic file scramble (on an external drive) can't be fixed in MacOs, then I pop into Windows and it fixes it every time. I dont know why, but it can be a life saver. Thx for another enjoyable video

HORROR!! Invested on a Seagate HUB (3,5" inside) with 8TB of storage and it worked for about 6months even with pretty delicate operation putting it to box etc. Fortunately I had a backup of all files in original HDD and SSD drives it was meant to backup but it was quite a hassle and managed somehow to save most critical files that were only on that 8TB drive. Never had failures with 4tb drives on smaller form factor 2,5" for some reason??? Just remember that even NVME drives can fail like my Samsung 960EVO but then again it was used daily for 3years back and forth until it stopped working. Still using NVME 980PRo now and just about to expand externally with 2tb T9 Shield to see how it fits my pipeline.

I had a hard drive fail when I dropped it taking it out of my bag. It was my 2tb wd passport non ssd. I had hundred of TV shows and movies on it plus work related files, and was my back up of all other external hard dives I had. Luckily I had 99percent of the files on other hard drives. I bought 2 orange bumper for my other external drives, incl a 4tb Toshiba HD as a back up of back up of a back up then completely lost track of where everything was. I since bought a 1tb Samsung t5 3yrs ago for 400 quid and that is my main back up. Having said that I REALLY do need to clean out my 4 pcs, multiple external hard drives and ssds, and Google drive, one drive and icloud, and samsung drive, all of which I own. Definitely I will purchase the rugger Samsung. My t5 is smooth like a greased pig.

I think if you enable write caching, then you'd have better transfer speeds. I'm wondering if this is how crystal disk mark is testing things. I don't like this option as you'd almost certainly lose data if you don't use the remove safely option in windows and you don't know when the buffer in ram is written to the disk with it enabled.

Interesting review, but, if you are going to spend the money anyway, and I did, I decided to amp it up, and go for max bangs per buck. Samsung 980 PRO 1TB M2 NVMe drive, which came from the local pc store, and a Simplecom SE509 (or similar) aluminium housing, also from a local pc store. 980 PRO T is rated at 7000 MB/sec read and 5000 MB/sec write. These are purely regular mnfr rated numbers, but content transfers are completed in the real world typically between 3000 and 3500 MB/sec using USB C transfer ports, which is respectable. If you want to take this solution into the bath to play with, or run over it with your SUV, do not buy this solution, you will break it. Otherwise, it works well, approximately the size and weight of a modern chunky car key, maybe even smaller and lighter, made of aluminium, and with speed to burn. It is more difficult to check actual write speeds, but, stands to reason, it will resolve any out of camera requirements, the choke point would more likely be the camera. You will need to spend 2-3 minutes with a screwdriver, to get the M2 drive into the drive case, but no biggie. Pricing seems to be reasonable, speed is a blinder, read or write, durability is good, providing you are in regular human habitation environment. Just saying, there ccould be a plan B.

this drive is awful, the port on it isnt secure at all. The slightest does and the wire falls out. I sent mine back. The older T7 is way better and more secure. Look up reviews, i wasnt the only one w this issue.

Sorry it's not clear, do these SSD still work after you've banged them and dropped them ? You show the action footage, but not the damaged SSD plugged for proof that it still works after all the mishaps :) :)

At the very beginning of the video, he shows everything he did to it and then him plugging it back in and the mac recognizing it and showing his files still there.

He does show it at the beginning of the video. That's the whole point for the product too, so it absolutely will work.

t7 and t7 shield price differencce is 30 euros. Is it worth it?
@lw7108
@lw7108 11 ай бұрын
Right now, it's about a 15 € difference (for 2 TB, depending on color of choice). From what I read, the Shield one uses more modern chips (in terms of Nanometer structure / power consumption) and keeps up sequential transfer write speeds better after the internal buffer has been filled.
