Hi all, in this video I will do a comparison for the Longchamp La Pliage tote made in China and made in France. There are quite a few things I can quickly spot between the two! Since prices are going up each year and demand still sky rocketing, I thought it was super interesting to see how the bag's quality changed over the years. The bags differ through stitching, leather texture, feel, and wear. Watch the video to find out more!

Hope you guys all found this helpful so far! I really wanted to compare and contrast the difference on the quality between the two, especially when you are paying a similar price (of course it is more expensive now, but as mentioned in my video you will know when and where I bought each bag). As someone has already mentioned, depending on the exterior colour determines interior colour. Light and like colour have white, while dark has dark. I do believe the reason for made in China is on the higher demand colours. In order to keep up with the demand. I don’t know how popular they are today. I love all my Longchamp, I’m so hooked on them I’ve bought different colours, short and long handles, small to large size. I will have to look at mine again. But I’m sure my light pink, khaki and light blue have white interiors.

Ohhh! That makes sense. I did think it might have been because of the lighter exterior as well. Nice to know that yours are too and the confirmation 😆. I was hooked on it too and wanted multiple coloured ones especially with the medium one I showed in the video. Do you still use yours to this day?? Yes, I’m actually using my black one, lol. I use a daily work tote (a canvas one) and I have my Longchamp folded up inside for errands after work. I know what you mean with using less at the moment. I sometimes carry all I need in my coat pockets. Less to worry about sanitizing when I get home. One day I will be back to daily handbag changes. I miss those days.

I have my Longchamp bought in 2017 in Germany, made in China, and I bought another one recently also made in China, online in Brussels. The one I bought in Germany is has all the features that the one you bought which made in France. Thus, I think the quality of the material which made Longchamp bag different from year to year :(

Oh wow!!!! Yeah that seems to make sense, that over the years they may need to change their materials for cost... and other reasons. Who knows but it’s quite upsetting to see the quality go down. True. Also maybe at the airport she got a LC bag with a lower quality such as those sold at the outlet mall… I never buy at the outlet or at the airport for this exact reason. I find that the quality at those stores are not the same as the LC brand store

I bought two at their website and it arrived to today, my small short handle is made in china while my large tote in long handle is made in vietnam. The china leather is stiff and the nylon is thicker, while the made in vietnam the handles are soft but the nylon is quite thin. I tried both of them on the crook of my arm with weights on them and the china one is uncomfortable. The made in vietnam has thesame softness to my made in france as well and both are comfortable.

Another comparison site said that the leather flap grain is horizontal diamonds on the real, vertical on the fake. But I got mine in a reputable department store - a very upmarket one, certainly not from a market or online - and the leather flap grain is vertical. The gold hardware is nice and bright and true brassy gold and the nylon shiny and good quality. But was I sold a fake? Some of the stitching on the handles had the odd loose edge too and I had to snip them off. Otherwise, it has been a good functional bag, which was made in China. I did get the bag in the sale though - about £60 instead of the retail price of around £80 at the time. I wonder if Longchamp made some inferior bags or seconds and sold them at cut price at this department store - like some brands do at Designer Outlets. Perhaps that is what I bought - an authentic China made but slightly inferior quality original. Are they allowed to do that? I am happy with the bag, but I have just ordered another Le Pliage 'green' and the large is slightly bigger than my original 'large' shoulder strap bag and the grain is horizontal. The leather feels a bit softer too but not that much more.

Early years the items are made in France but they moved manufacturer and everything LC Le Pliage (in my experience) are now made in China. We have the same comparison as made in France stamping is lighter l, the leather is way more malleable and softer.

I thought the interior depends on the exterior colour? Dark bags will have black interior and light or bright ones have white interior

I think it does too! Just so happens my lighter one is MIC too! 😊 I haven't bought any Longchamp or looked into it at stores anymore so I can't confirm that 100%.

I don’t think you get to choose! Most of them now are made in China and I’ve read in forums/comments that people have waited to go to Europe to buy this bag and even then it is Made in China.

@@samanthamok Fair enough! Lol. I have five large Le Pliage and one travel sized one. 🙃 I have the magenta/pink and black one you mentioned and the leather is super soft and buttery. Thankfully. The other three bags I don't use as often so I haven't broken into the handles yet. But I can definitely see what you mean about the leather! It's stiff and feels like plastic.

The Longchamp company produces their bags in France, Romania and China to save costs. If you are unlucky you get an original Longchamp bag by Longchamp, but made in China or Romania. Then the bag is too expensive when you buy it.

It's in the interior lining of the bag, on the side!! It could be a white tab or a somewhat plastic tab!

I’m eyeing a Longchamp backbag online but was kind of hesitant to purchase because it said made in France and wasn’t sure if it is authentic because I have been told that if it said made in France they are fakes. Not sure tho.

Hey Samantha. I have a Longchamp Made in France (Eiffel Tower version) tote and the handles are not as soft as yours. I did get it in 2015 and perhaps it is a year to year variation. However, I do make it a point to not purchase ones made in China. I believe I have one made in Tunisia and it felt the same as the Made in France one. It would seem Longchamp should have quality controls for all of their bags no matter where it is made? Regardless, interesting thoughts!

Alot of companies are out sourcing their products to other countries for cheap labor. Unfortunately the quality and materials suffers and customers can see the difference. Companies are lowering their quality of their brand when they do this. Its all about money.

I have 2 bags they both were made in China. But one I bought 4 years ago in EU, one I bought this year in China. The new one is stiffer as well, the handle, the canvas. Although they both from China, the quality is quite different. So I suspected I got a fake one for a long time.

This is so strange! I have both kinds and my made in china one has by far the softer leather, and the handles look (down to the way they're sealed on the edges) just like your made in France one!

Same brand. Two different factory countries. Very different results. This was such a thorough comparison! It’s really all in the details from font to stitching and so on. I agree that the one from China would have looked better if the lining wasn’t white!

Bought a le pliage and never thought that they have made in China nowadays. I’m quite disappointed because I ordered this from Italy and it will be expensive to return it. Oh well. It wasn’t that expensive so I ain’t going to return it. 😞😞

Thank you for your review. Really really good. I hope Jean Cassegrain and her team wacht this and is aware of all the complains of the quality. My mother's LePliage from the lates 90's and 2004 's made in France still going strong. I bought 2 LongChamp in Amsterdam (i never looked at the labeling but Im doing now because of your review and they are made in China! ) That explain why after 3 months use zip broke and de edges started too.. The first repair is for free and for a broken zip you pay €25. Its this worth it? What a waste of money, time and materials! Very bad for the the environment and the world. Very smooth Logo or NO Logo is more elegant. I love Long Champ Le Pliage shoppers and traveling bags but at the moment I stop buying them.

Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your thoughts. For me, LC made in China is basically for their Premium Outlet outlets and it's so much cheaper. If you want to buy again LC that made from France, you have to buy from their Boutique and the price is more expensive. Definitely quality difference between them.

I also have read somewhere in my comments that someone went to Europe boutique and it was still made in China sad to say, perhaps that was an outlet I'd hope. @@samanthamok In Malaysia the boutique still selling ones made from France and the price still considered the handbag as luxury items. So as you said the quality is a lotttt different. So I guess airports also sell one of their 'cheap' quality bags.

The C in “made in China” stands for Cheap! 😂 Love your video, I didn’t even know that Longchamp manufactured some of their bags in China. They really need to stop doing that because it ruins the brand’s image. I’m starting to think that they aren’t really a true “luxury” brand. They’re kind of like MK and Coach, especially their entry level bags.

No I don’t think it’s fake! Especially if you bought it from boutique. I feel like they just changed their level of quality/approval for the way they make this bag.. like different grade of fabrics and martial. Who knows though!

i have been desperately doing so much research trying to avoid buying bags and shoes manufactured in China or Vietnam because I am tired of having to tolerate buying products from supposed European or American brands that are slightly expensive but their quality don't match the price and last only a short time because they are produced in China and other Southeast Asian countries! I just really want to buy products that are actually match their price.

Will never buy one made in China. It is a French brand and I was very disappointed to learn that mine was made in China so I returned it. The quality as you mentioned was different. Disappointed and have alerted my friends to be on the lookout for ones not made in France.
