Time to make a really long comment: I couldn't agree more with everything said in this video! Linux truly stands out as the best operating system for those who value customization and control. Its open-source nature means that you can tweak and optimize your system however you like, making it an incredibly flexible and powerful tool. Unlike Windows and macOS, where you're stuck with whatever features they give you, Linux lets you take charge of your system and tailor it exactly to your needs. One of the points that really resonated with me was how lightweight Linux is compared to other operating systems. It’s incredible how smoothly Linux runs, even on older or less powerful hardware. I’ve personally experienced this when reviving older laptops with Linux, and the difference in performance is night and day compared to running Windows or macOS. It’s no wonder so many people turn to Linux for performance and efficiency. Security is another area where Linux absolutely shines. The way Linux handles user permissions and system access makes it far more secure than Windows or macOS. I love knowing that my system is protected without needing to constantly worry about viruses or malware. The open-source community works so quickly to address any vulnerabilities, and that kind of rapid response is hard to beat. I also completely agree with the point about the diversity of Linux distributions. Whether you’re new to Linux or a seasoned user, there’s a distro that fits your exact needs. I’ve experimented with several over the years, and it’s amazing how each one is tailored to different use cases, all while maintaining the core advantages of Linux. This level of choice is something you simply don't get with Windows or macOS. All in all, Linux truly is the superior operating system for anyone who wants performance, security, and freedom. It’s easy to see why so many people, myself included, believe Linux is simply better than Windows or Mac. This was written by AI, but in all seriousness, great video

I actually love my Linux computers. It's like wanting a car, building the car, and then having to learn how to be the mechanic for the car. You have to want to learn all that, which I did. But most people would rather buy a Mac, which is wanting a car, being given a different car, one where all the parts are welded shut inside where you can't touch them, and then when you try to drive it, it takes you where IT wants to go instead. Meanwhile Microsoft made a dumpy car, and with each iteration, they layered a new car on top of the old one until there are now 7 cars and you have to dig down to the first car just to get to the glove compartment.
@akeem29832 ай бұрын
I personally use Fedora Silverblue, which is like a car with all stuff welded in place, but you can use the package manager to solder something on top or desolder something that you soldered in the past and don't need anymore (mostly it's used for stuff like drivers), or you can replace the entire car with preservation of soldered stuff and your personal stuff that lies inside by doing rebase if you want to switch DEs or something. I don't like tinkering with my system and don't use terminal apps that often, so this is the perfect system for me and this further shows just how diverse and powerful Linux may be - power users can do any level of tinkering that they want and everything in Linux is beatifully customizable for them, while casual users aren't left unnoticed too - they can just use stuff that is pre-configured, but still have other benefits of Linux

great video, but yeah Im a longtime Linux user, I agree with most of this, novice computer users should not attempt to use linux, their endeavor will end in frustration. Anyone wanting to make the jump from Windows should know that, Linux can function like Windows, but it is NOT windows, its a totally different ecosystem, be ready to re-learn EVERYTHING. That being said, KDE is a very windows like experience, and 99% of all my games, regular and VR work on Linux with proton steam and lutris.

And that is writing eproms or eeproms. Yes I own a writer that I have only used two times in total. So I still keep an old 2009 Win7 laptop around just in case I need to write more chips. Linux is safer not only because it's less attractive for hackers (cause that's not even true, since it's dominating the servers market and a server is much juicier a target than some PC) but because it is properly designed from the very start. Also, there is a huge difference between the old legendary Linux that you are describing and today's beast: the scary terminal is not really needed, not more than having to edit the registry in Windows and the "compatibility of parts" with Linux is a thing of ancient past. Linux is like tap water: cheap, abundant, safe and fit to purpose in 99.99% of the cases (more than Windows) but corporations spend billions in marketing to persuade gullible people to buy bottled water. Contrast that with the cost, security and privacy risks (or rather certainties) of its competitors...

LOL, a fresh Linuxer here, learning my ways around it, I have Win11 on USB, with Linux on hard drive of the laptop. And when the Win10 on my main pc loses support, it will follow the fate of the laptop. With LMDE or Mint in general, it isn't as difficult as it used to be with Linux. And believe or not, I love terminal. I rely on AI to help me figuring things out, but hopefully that won't be forever. It is just the teething issues I need to figure out as a novice. Once set up and running, I shouldn't need much of it. Just don't be super comfortable on the security side, the vulnerabilities are everywhere. Just learned about some in relation to printers and some settings that allow exploiters to invade your system if not configured right. The community should issue regular updates to patch up the system, so sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade are my regular commands I use every time I turn the machine on, not waiting for the little shield with a dot to tell me updates are available.

Although I did have an Advansys SCSI card that the manufacturer wrote for Linux driver for slightly before Nvidia released their binary driver. But really who's ever heard of Advansys? Nvidia was the first major manufacturer to give Linux any love. Although DEC supported Linux before them. Well, they gave Linus an Alpha. They knew he'd get Linux to work on it too. I'm not fluent in linux but I have tried it out for a while in short bursts before crawling back to windows, because I don't like being back at the level of computer noob again. It /does/ have some things going for it though. I was amazed how much lower the base RAM usage is, but then found even with that RAM/cpu savings I /still/ couldn't find a practical use for the older/low-spec systems I was trying it out on, since the only things I could actually use another system/home-server for all need better hardware on par with my main system to work. You did an alright job of talking about its good points while also somewhat subtlety acknowledging its drawbacks. However I do notice that even when Linux promoters even acknowledge the drawbacks they downplay them, while sometimes almost exaggerating the benefits. It's understandable, that's like how all marketing works even on a subconscious level. Will old/low-spec systems run better on linux than trying to install like Windows 10/11 on them, most probably yes, especially the full version and not a debloated one. Does that boost increase proportionally as the specs rise? Not necessarily. Is that boost on low-spec systems life-transforming? Not most of the time, even on videos where they manage to install linux on surprisingly old systems those systems are still /far/ from a joy to use, and they /still/ can't do anything really demanding by modern standards, but they're at least somehow up to date with software actually able to launch even if the hardware is still a major bottleneck and it might lag like crazy.
