Dangerous to Apple's bottom line. Also, I'm sooooo sick of hearing how Apple's M-series hardware is like the greatest thing since sliced bread. Apple this, Apple that, blah, blah, blah. It's pretty good, yes, but can we give credit where credit actually due? Namely TSMC for translating Apple's design into something that actually works. They did all the hard work, just like all those engineers who turned the iPad and iPhone, etc into real products after Steve Jobs had an 'idea'.

@@roboko6618 I do not get how people says "linux is complicated because you may need to use the console" like this was something to be scared of and then when they actually make use of it (because they suddenly lost the ¨fear" of it) they think it is ok to run commands (that they do not understand) and close the window and hopes anything that has not yet finished do not breaks something. I think we could agree that closing the console with a running command should show a pop-up to warn that this may not be a good idea, like some terminal does or sending a "Control-C" signal to the process before closing the window. That could be a "better design" and a simple modification I guess.

TBH I think there are three types of people Linux is perfect for. Users that have simple needs, advanced users that already know how to use it, and computer enthusiast that want to know more. If you don't fit into any of those camps linux is probably not the best choice for you. Basic users that have someone to provide tech support when needed. Think grandma who checks her email and browses the web, but not much else. As long as her grandson can set it up for her it'll be perfect. She doesn't know how to use a Mac or windows machine anyway, so it's not like she's less comfortable with linux. People that have been using linux for years will obviously have no issues or at least they'll be able to resolve them with ease. They know the different package managers and windowing systems. They are comfortable with the command line. They want the computer to do what they want rather than what some corporation wants. Linux gives someone like this the freedom to do more than they could on any other OS, well maybe not more than BSD, but you get the point. If they need to run something in windows they can dual boot or use virtualization. People that have used Windows or MacOS for years and are comfortable with a computer, but want to know more can only become the power users of the other group by learning more, but you have to want it. If you don't want to watch tutorials, read manuals, or are terrified of the command line and can't live with your computer being out of commission for a day or two while you fix it this probably isn't for you. But if you want the freedom to create virtual environments that can directly utilize your GPU or have the option to use open source drivers want to learn how linux is definitely for you.

@@kehindeakiode2865 Hi! I just installed Windows-10 last month on a laptop: First, getting a 'Clean' Microsoft ISO install media onto a flash drive was a pain because MS needed to use 'special tools' (Rufus/MS Media Creation) as opposed to just burning a bootable image like I've done with Linux ISOs. Next, several Windows created bootable flash drives would start and fail installs because Widows is picky about some models of flash drives, even though I was using name brands drives. I actually missed just using the old school CD/DVDs. Once the install was working, I had to opt-out of all the privacy invading 'features' as I could. Then had to decline all the MS products/service they were pushing. Finally at a desktop, now update, re-boot, update, re-boot a ridiculous number of times. After all that there is still no office suite, ect. installed. I've been using LibreOffice for years. The driver situation on clean windows installs is much better now. Thankfully Microsoft and the manufactures are working together with drivers on pre-built/laptop machines where they know the devices installed. No OS is perfect. Keep watching Sam, and..... Stay Funky! 😁

@@fredrickbambino Or why advanced users eventually switch to rolling releases where they don't have to live in PPA hell or any equivalent system to workaround a the limitations of the ditrib frozen repository, or worse: frozen kernel versions or module loading. Amusingly I have far less issues installing and configuring kernel level drivers on arch since it's automatic in most cases, if they're not already installed as dependecies. Not that easy on Debian or Ubuntu, honestly I would rather install arch on a recent laptop. A good package manager, with great dependency management and an up-to-date repository, + lots of automatic stuff makes your life pretty easy. There's a reason why Homebrew and Chocolatey exist too (even though they're far more limited). At a high enough level, ease of repeated / automated installation and configuration of a full system with apps, job specific tools (dev, video, etc.), vpns, proxies, etc. would be linux > macos >>>>> windows. Pretty easy choice when you have to setup computers regularly (one per new client or employer).

All linux distros are very hit or miss depending on the system where it's installed, I've tried to switch to linux many times on my personnal computers (use linux from command line server side since many years), and I can assure you that in a lot of systems, many distros are just completely broken like this in very random odd ways, then if you are lucky enough, you may end up with just the correct hardware configuration and distro that work well and think that this is the normal experience but it's not. I remembered that on a particular toshiba laptop I used to have, half of the keyboard just didn't work, the touchpad was extremely sensitive no matter the setting, and to make the keyboard and touchpad work, I had to do so many manipulations through the terminal, things a normal user wouldn't ever be able to do. Then the system would also just have random errors and crashes so many times a day, that ultimately, I switched to another distro, but then it was laggy as hell and the battery would drain in 30 minutes and the laptop fan would be at max systematically. So I brought that laptop back to windows and it's working fine, it's not like the hardware is broken or anything.

It's not as bad as critics make it out to be and yet it's not as easy as proponents make it out to be either. You can make a USB drive to boot into Linux (opt for Mint [cinnamon] because it's arguably the easiest option) with zero commitment (aside from formatting the USB drive) and you can try it out for yourself. You might be surprised at how smoothly it works for you. It's really not that bad and this video had an unusual amount of issues. Linux isn't the most user-friendly OS out there, granted, but it's not all that hard either. There's just a bit of a learning curve and it's not all completely intuitive to someone who has been raised on Windows but that's to be expected.

As a longterm distro and OS hopper I can tell you: macOS works because it usually is already set up for you. And if not, macOS runs on the hardware 100% known by the manufactor (except the ones that run on forgotten hardware via Open Core Legacy Patcher), so no wonder it runs smooth. Compared to Windows, your Linux experience had to be the better ones. That apt-error btw may occur because the installation of another app has been interrupted. A simple Windows-fashioned reboot should have helped. Next time just try debian, it doesn't fiddle with package formats like flatpacks and snaps, but relies on good old native debian packages called .deb-Files, and accepts side-loaded appimages (which are the honest snap-flats). All-in-all, Linux always has been picky about the hardware it runs on, but if it runs it runs pretty well, and is much faster installed and updated than any version of Windows or macOS. On my very machines it is at home on all non-OCLP-capable Macs, aswell as on PCs for which I am not willing to pay 500 € for the fundamental functionality of a professional Operating System - especially when its online-only.

@@CathrineMacNiel In some (generally non-relevant) ways, the Linux kernel is broken by design and locked into that design. It originated as a student project by Torvalds, based on a unix-for-students called "Minix", created by Tanenbaum and used in his Modern Operating Systems book. It was the first unix-like for the x86 (PC) platform, so it grew a following and became the "standard" before the actual *nixes, based on the Berkley System Distribution, made their way to the platform. Since Linux was already adopted and embraced, it's continuously seen more development efforts, including some efforts to fix the core problems, so it has considerably better driver support than the *BSD options. However, conceptually (as in, generally non-relevant) it retains those original flaws. Of the *BSD options, OpenBSD has the best reputation and track record on security. I'm a lazy person, so I run Mint, because it "just works" without me having to fiddle around too much, and has "enough" security for my (low) needs, but I appreciate NonameEthereal's setup: * Arch Linux, the most configurable version of Linux, bringing with it driver and gaming support for a gaming PC. * SteamOS 3 on handheld, because, well, handheld. You can brick yours if you want to. Also, Arch with flatpaks is quite stable. * OpenBSD on the actual workstation, where gaming support isn't needed but rock-hard security is. The "best" Linux alternative to OpenBSD, in this case, would probably be something like Qubes OS, which doesn't trust it's own kernel and runs everything as virtual machines, but OpenBSD deserves the love and isn't nearly as awkward (yes, Qubes people, I said it).
