We're Going to CHILE! 🇨🇱 | Remote BORDER CROSSING from El Calafate to PUERTO NATALES by Bus

In today's episode, we're crossing over to Chile! This country wasn't originally in our travel plans, but then we realized detouring through Chile was the most convenient way to travel overland to Ushuaia, plus it would give us the opportunity to experience a bit of Chilean Patagonia after so many months spent in Argentina. So, we bid El Chalten farewell and began the bus journey over to El Calafate and then transferred on to a second bus bound for Puerto Natales, Chile. The journey was nothing short of scenic - we saw turquoise lakes, loads of guanacos along the side of the road, and open land as far as the eye can see. When we reached the border crossing, for a moment we honestly thought we were pulling up to an estancia because that's how gorgeous the landscapes were. By the time we reached Puerto Natales it was 10pm but it was still daylight - summer days in southern Patagonia are really long! So after getting settled in our AirBnB, we walked to a nearby restaurant where we had some delicious ceviche and sushi. That was our travel day from El Calafate to Puerto Natales by bus! I love that you love dogs. I have 4 right now. My old lady is 14.5 and still hanging in there in spite of her health problems. Every day is good with her. Though every night she wants on the bed then wakes me up to get off and then on and off. Frustrating but I love her so much I gladly do what she wants.

hotel la leonora had great empanadas! we stopped there too , we were going oppposite of your direction and were heading to the airport to head to Buenos Aires which was the last leg of our 3 week trip down there.....THE HIKING WAS PHENOMENOL!!!!

We've only travelled a fraction of Chile but for dry desert weather, I'd suggest Arica and Atacama, or Easter Island for more of a tropical vibe.

Thanks for your message. This was several years ago now, so I don't remember the details. We either booked online via BusBud or BusPlus (this will allow you to check the schedule and see what companies do the journey), or we went to the bus terminal a day before to buy our bus tickets in person.

Do you remember if you get at the chilean border something called Papel de ingreso de inmigraciones made by PDI authorities that basically is a paper that you need to prove the hotels you are not a Chilean citizen in order not to pay the 19% VAT when paying hotels in Chile being foreigner and paying with non chilean pesos credit cards?

No, I don't think that was a thing when we were there. We just showed our passports to prove we're foreigners and paid with credit cards.
