Samurai Champloo is an anime that first aired in 2005, lauded for it's forward-thinking soundtrack featuring legendary hip hop producers Nujabes and Fat Jon. These were some of the formative beats for me as a producer.
I managed to find this 2017 edition of Samurai Champloo's soundtrack on Discogs. It's not a first edition pressing, but it does sound great. I hope you enjoy listening!
Just a heads-up, this music gets content claimed on youtube. Doesn't matter to me, as I'm just uploading these videos for fun. I'm happy to support the creators (or their labels...)
I hear some folks use my channel for their streams, so if you're one of those folks, skip this video!
Shout-out to everyone who came to my stream yesterday, that was fun. I'll try to pick out some albums to play and chill out on a live sometime again soon.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy the tunes.

Its more because Samurai Champloo heavily featured songs by Nujabes and other prodigies of Japanese Hip Hop which lofi has a lot of influence from.

@@gustavosanches3454 😂 lofi is boom bap Hip Hop, which started in the US around the early 90s. No disrespect to nujabes but he definitely didn’t create it. It was just relabeled. Yoko kanno who is the producer of champloo was looking for an urban hip hop feel to be the background to the series but they couldn’t afford well known American producers that’s why you hear Fat Jon , Nujabes and others

Its honestly all thanks to Shinichirō Watanabe. The Director has made some of the greatest anime series of all time! -Samurai Champloo/ Lofi hiphop -Cowboy bebop/ jazz -space dandy/ Disco He knows how to incorporate music and anime together. It's also got the best English dub in all of anime. It's the only show that I like the dub equally as much as the sub. It might be nostalgia, since dubbed was how I first saw it on Adult Swim in the middle of the night in high school, but I also think the voice acting is perfect.

@@sixpiesbreakfastabound tons happened. If you made it that far without being hooked it's probably just not for you. Personally I liked the realistic elements of the story which balanced out the more fantastical parts. A young woman traveling in feudal Japan (or anywhere at that time period) on her own would experience a lot of that type of danger. It would've been more unrealistic to pretend like she would be perfectly safe wandering around alone all the time. A big aspect of the show is her avoiding being kidnapped and them trying not to starve; reality.

I don't know what it is about this soundtrack or even this video but Champloo's music has always been...calming? I remember having my first panic attack after accidentally going off my lexapro a few months ago and in the midst of trying to get through the side-effects, I kept this video on loop as I tried to sleep. Now again, I had accidentally overdid OTC painkillers and felt really sick as a result...once more, returning to this video, which seemed to make my whole ordeal of suffering feel a lot less terrible.

Lo-fi hip hop has existed for quite a while like late 80s early 90s but it’s cool that champloo shined some light on it and gave it some much needed recognition. The mixture of high action anime and lofi was truly genius!
@riosnyder6122
@riosnyder6122 3 жыл бұрын
Lofi didn’t really exist, there was triphop, jazz rap, sample hip hop, which were inspirations for Nujabes’ style, which has now become Lofi. These original styles were done by producing masters J Dilla, Madlib, Guru, etc, J Dilla being one of his biggest inspirations. It was Nujabes that took these styles, inspired by his old records and hip hop, creating the raw style of lofi. The reason Lofi is so reminiscent of the sounds of hiphop in the 80s & 90s is because Nujabes blended those elements, he took the best from all, and with his own flavor and touch, created what we know today as Lofi/Lofi Hip Hop.
@Bumbly_Vee
@Bumbly_Vee 10 ай бұрын
@@riosnyder6122No, they're right. Nujabes and Dilla were the same age and that scene of hip hop was already know in Japan. People Shing02 and Verbal exist with similar styling. Lo-fi hip hop itself is just low fidelity, meaning it sounds more aged, which gives it that nostalgic feel. That aside, laid back vibes of Nujabes sounds are probably influenced from other artists like, A Tribe Called Quest, Massive Attack, Slum Village, The Fugees, Mobb Deep, etc.

I don't remember exactly how, but I stumbled upon Samurai Champloo, all by myself. Maybe I was looking for Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) and scrolling down the list I came across this. I decided to try it out (I think it's only around 24 episodes). Man, did I wish there were more episodes. It's a solid 9/10 for me & I'm definitely gonna rewatch it sometime.
