As you guys have said, you CANNOT approach playing a Kitara like a conventional guitar, or even a keyboard/keytar. It's a totally different mindset, as the subtleties aren't there. But, in the hands of a musician who can truly adapt (like Chris from Muse) it becomes a formidable piece of stage kit. I've seen Muse live on every concert tour, and he used it on the 2nd Law, Drones and Simulation Theory tours (it's now incorporated into a dual neck bass body) that guy creates amazing grooves on the Kitara. I'm tempted to get one myself and hook it into my midi rig (I use an Alessi Vortex Wireless 2, and a Kaoss) I like the Nova, but the Kitara has that something.

A "bunch of musicians" have already contributed apps to Apple's app store, so it's not limited to what is prebuilt into the controller, and it's far more portable than some of the other midi guitar options out there. There are midi patching apps that allow someone to use the fretboard for non-guitar apps, but sometimes just pulling up iKaossolator and giving the left hand a rest is fun too.

Ah, the screen digitizer glitch... I was hoping you might have found a solution or a workaround. Incidentally, the Tri-bass, also by Misa, featured the same touchscreen input and also has the same issue. The digitizer used was the HF804F V1.3 with an I2C interface. These would have been easy to replace back in 2017, but are non-existent now. I still have hope for this beasty. Watch this space. In theory, you should be able to replace the digitizer with another using the same I2C protocol, but then you might need to tweak the misa firmware to recognize the address of that device. Even then, there's a degree of finger-crossing involved as the chip used on that digitizer would have to be generic enough to share the same instructions/conventions/protocol as the older digitizer. Most manufacturers tend to source the same chip to build their digitizers around it. So you never know. I'm still working on this.

When it comes to things like this or the DG-20 they have no real practical use, but at the same time if you can play one of them well people are gonna be drawn towards it a bit, I feel like a touring solo guitarist wouldn’t get as much attention as a solo touring Casio DG-20ist

I was a senior in high school when the Kitara made the internet rounds. I was captivated by the possibilities, but being young and broke, there was no way. Probably the first time I’ve heard of it for ten years, and I am glad you made this. Have you looked at Jamstiks? Similar concept of a synth guitar. It uses string (big selling point back in the day). The older one looks like one of those dumb fret board trainers that grandmothers think their guitar playing grandchild needs. The new ones seem to be more of a guitar with synth capabilities. Would love to see your take on it.

I have two Kitaras, both of which have the same problem. I'm hoping the Mosi guy decides to make some replacement touch screens for them but it doesn't seem likely.

They should make more of there and more screen guitars in general bc thats such a cool concept especially for people with long nails or trouble playing normal guitars Different variations of it would be cool it really was future of instruments but no one aknowledged it and now we need it without it being out there

Hopefully the Misa Kitara is still being made since I'm an aspiring musician willing to play one!
