Samyang 135mm f/1.8 Sony

There is the A-Mount Minolta lens with the Sony A-Mount to E-Mount adapter. That Minolta lens is very good and really cheap. And if you get a manual focus 135mm then those adapters are super cheap. Also there is the Canon 135mm f2 with a adapter.

@@TheBergreens The Minolta A-Mount is auto focus those 135mm f2.8 lens go for about I think $150 and the manual focus 135mm f2.8 those go for around $50. The Minolta A-Mount is screw drive and does make noise. I talked to other photographers about camera noise and everyone says if the camera is up to your face its going to sound bad. I did photograph one wedding with Nikon screw drive lens back in the film days and no one cared. But I like silent lens now. There is one benefit to lens that make noise is if you like photographing animals like your pets or kids once they hear that noise they turn their heads and look right into the camera. I have this really great photo of my cat. He heard the lens noise noise and looked right at the lens.

I had the Canon EF 135mm 2.0 L USM Lens, it is not as good as the newer 135mm Lenses.

Have you used the A-Mount Minolta 135mm lens? I'm travelling to Morocco and UK over Christmas and have the 20-70mm but would like a bit more reach and have seen the Minolta for about 100usd. There's not much info about it online.

@@sisdl15 I did have the Minolta 135mm f2.8 years ago and I really did like it when I had it. I got out of photography for a few years ago so I sold my film gear. I kind of wish I did not sell it. Who knows I might be shooting Sony A-Mount and maybe gone Sony E-Mount also. Its a nice small lens. You'll just need the adapter. There is a manual Minolta lens 135. f2.8 and the manual adapters are like 10 or 15 dollars. I did see the Minolta Auto Focus 135mm F2.8 about a week ago for about 60 dollars but most of the time it goes for I think 150 dollars.

Did it drain your battery if you left it on your camera?

I usually set the auto power off to 5mins so I didn’t have any issues. Is this a known problem?

@ yes, even if the camera was not on, I would turn it back on hours later, and it would have drained significantly on that lens, very odd

Would you consider the Viltrox 75mm 1.2 on FF as a viable alternative?

That seems like a good alternative but I don't have good experience with Viltrox lenses. It will probably have some good background blurr at f/1.2!

I have the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, but it is big and heavy, now I most often use either 110mm or 85mm. If I should have a new 135mm Lens, then it will be the excellent Zeiss Batis Apo Sonnar 135mm 2.8 T*, it is one of the most Light weight 135mm Lenses. I went through many of my photos taken with the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM Lens, most of the photos was taken with aperture 2.8 to 5.6, some larger than 2.8 and some with 8.0 or 11.0, but it was rare and those taken with larger aperture was nor very pleasant, so 2.8 for a 135mm Lens is all I need.

I also have the Batis 135. I carry is for the reasons: lightweight, APO design, incredibly good colour rendering, sharp and it has OSS. At 135mm shooting f1.8 doesnt make the image look that good, i usually shoot at around f4 anyway. Btw Sony may have the f1.8 but the zeiss has the colours and complete CA control which matters more than f-stop imo.

@@jijdom You cannot see CA from the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, at aperture 2.8 the Sony have lower CA than the Zeiss, the only reall flaw of Sony Lens is the weight and size.

I have sony a6600 ....i have the kit 16-50 ,sony 50 f1.8 and im thinking about getting this lens....will the focal length be too much for portraits or should i invest more and get 35-150 f2 f2.8

I think you’ll find this lens a bit too restrictive for your 6600, maybe try the Samyang 85?
