This is the first and only lens I have bought for my Sony A7iii. I love it and use it full time for travel, portrait, and everyday shooting. The only downside is the size/weight, and the focus ring is tough for accuracy in night sky/star photos.

I own this lens two months ago. It's a fantastic lens for a fantastic video. The last firmware update (v. 4.0) improves a lot the af performance.

It's really nice that Samyang / Rokinon has moved into autofocus. Hopefully, they can continue to get it even closer to native performance and also get rid of the focusing sounds, and then it will truly be a major contender!

I got mine about 10 days ago and really enjoy it. I wouldn’t recommend for quick action because of the AF, but still life and portraits it’s gorgeous. It has a lot of Purple blue fringing but can be fixed in post but for the price it’s really nice and great for lowlight. Great review as usual my brother.

I've been using this lens for over a year now with my A7iii and A7s. My only complaint is that sometimes the lens makes the camera autofocus lock-up and not work. The only way to fix it is to remove and re-insert the battery. This only happens with this lens and none of my other lenses. And it is updated to the latest firmware. I'm not sure why it happens, but it's my only complaint. Otherwise it is an excellent lens with excellent value.

Love your videos but i think they were better with no music, your voice is very nice and calm, so if you must put music then I recommend more slow tempo beats at an even lower volume This is just my opinion, but i still enjoy your content nevertheless

greta review as always - thanks I did own the 50mm few years ago and paired it with my A7 - which was of course slow - image quality for the price was very nice - but now I have the A7 III so would love to get a comparison between the 50mm and the 35mm - but I think you sold me on the 35mm - look forward to your 50mm review and how you think they compared - suspected AF maybe a bit better with the 35mm as it is newer - but you will find out

I use a7II the lens is great, but my camera couldn't catch up with the auto focus. Sometimes the auto focus failed and annoyed me so much But for me. It still is the great lens. I have been using this for 2years already

You're welcome, I don't like using step-up rings, certainly not from 82 to 67mm. I prefer keeping the package as small as possible.

Hi, I have this lens and updated the firmware. it helped the speed of auto focus on low light. The noise of the focusing motors is more noticeable but it's a good improvement and can definitely recommend this over Sony's and sigma's version.

I think E mount Sigma 35mm F1.4 Art is a little better choice, because Sigma has better quality control and mechanical focus ring yet its size is not that bigger. Thanks for the review.

A very nice lens. Samyang/Rokinon seems to be lens at a great value. However, the use of metal on the case is probably not necessary with modern material science considering the size and particularly the weight of this lens. The issue with full frame cameras is the size and weight of the overall system. If one just has to have whatever perceived advantages full frame has to offer, then weight and size of the rig is a given. And the general trend of the marketplace is bigger equates to better. I disagree, particularly at my age, I just cannot afford Leica. A great review, I think an Osmo review is forthcoming!!! Regards from the Desert.

Thank you, most of the weight is probably the glass, so I don't think that it makes so much difference, even though I don't mind plastic as well. Samyang also makes great F2.8 pancake lenses, so that is very lightweight alternative.

debating which would be better - Sony 35mm F1.8. or the Samyang 35mm F1.4. yes it would be nice to have the extra light gathering and bokeh from the Samyang. - but what makes it a difficult decision is the size and weight the Sony F1.8 is $250 more and only F1.8 but so so much smaller and lighter - so still debating with my self :). what is your take ? then there is is the 45mm F1.8 Samyang for $370 even smaller - which like in the middle

Jon Hermannsson I have both of them. Maybe the af of the Sony is more accurate. I like more the size of the samyang but the sony is veryvprctical and the color rendering is beautiful, So I decide to keep both of them 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@charruaporelmundo You mean that the AF of the Samyang is almost at the same level as the Sony 1.8? In low light that gives the Samyang 1.4? I am hesitant between the two, the bokeh of the Sony is a little hard sometimes following the background (but it is another debate). Your opinion between the two interests me.

I have this lens and it locks up on my a7iii. Sent it to Samyang to have checked out and they couldn’t duplicate the lock up. They sent me a brand new lens and it continues to lock up. Not sure what the issue is but have you experienced anything like this?

Podľa toho na akom fotoaparáte. Na A7R III a A7R IV je aj crop mód OK. Na A7 III je veľká strata kvality obrazu, tam to neodporúčam vôbec.

Bought this lens, i wouldnt call it outstanding but it does fine for its price. colors are a bit off (its warmer and more into green compare to my 85mm sony lens) Are there correction profiles for this lens? in capture one it picks Voitlander 35mm 1.4 nokton classic profile which is not the same lens obviously

It's a pity that C1 doesn't support any Samyang lenses.

Samyang 35mm F1.4 AS UMC but that is manual focus only lens. Sgima 35mm F1.4 also has better manual focusing.

Hey, greetings from Canada, I love all your videos. I have an A7iii and Tamron 28-75 because of your videos!! Do you think you can get your hands on the Samyang 85 1.4 af for Sony FE? The only comparable lenses to it are the Sony G master and Sigma which are double or triple the price of the Samyang, or the Sony 85 1.8 or Batis 85 1.8 lenses. So I'd love to see and hear your thoughts!

Your best bang for the buck for the 85mm is always going to be the Sony 85mm 1.8.

only big downsize is this thing is big and heavy .. i now highly recommend getting the sigma 28-70mm F2.8 instead its smaller and lighter and while not 1.4 at 2.8 and the longer focal range should give you a LOT more options; photography wise. now i kind of wish i had not gotten this lens tbh lol

The version 2.0 firmware wasn't that good on C-AF for Video. The firmware 3.0 had problems so it was deleted from Samyang website. I got the Rokinon dock and installed firmware 4.0 which was much much better than version 2.0. I really like the color rendering and bokeh. See the comparison (on the old 2.0 firmware) with the tamron 28-75 but set at 35mm f2.8 just for giggles here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZorHiWqnnsyDbMU The color of the Samyang is warm compared to the Tamron BUT the glare can be really bad if the sun is offset so the hood is mandatory. For $529 from B&H plus $60 for the lens dock, it was worth keeping.

I got this lens about 8 months ago and loved it at first! The lens completely locked up after a few months and isn't recognized by any bodies. After firmware update to V4.0 with the dock it worked for one day... then back to dead. Can't get ahold of Samyang support. Any ideas?? Tried on multiple A7III's and A6500; the dock recognizes the lens and firmware every time, despite not being seen by any bodies (lens never dropped or damaged, contacts are clean; stopped mid-shoot originally).

I bought this lens and have had great results with it, however after updating my Sony A7iii with the latest firmware update I have had some problems with it. I do not like that the firmware in the lens cannot be updated without a special dock.

85mm and 135mm are typical portrait lenses, 35mm is wide angle mostly used for landscapes and street photography. It can be used for portraits, but is definitely not a typical portrait lens.
