The profits as defined by return on equity (I think) are regulated by the CPUC and are similar across the country. I'm okay with my natural gas bill, but I wish they would explain why electricity is about 47 cents/kWh in San Diego vs. 13.5 cents across the rest of the nation. It's not as if the ROE (8.6%-ish?) at Sempra is 3x that of others. While they are at it, have them explain why gas prices in San Diego are $1.60/gallon higher than the national average. That said, can't you qualify for one of the programs if you are having trouble paying for heat?

I don't think our City Council members (or any other of our elected politicians) know how it works or what questions to ask: 1 Therm is 100k BTU, 10 Therm is 1MM BTU. The spot price is currently $2.77 per 1MM BTU. On our last bill we all paid $22.70 per 10 Therms (1mm BTU) that was bought for $2.77. So the delivery and profit for SDGE was over $20 in this case, and 85% of our bill. The price of gas was less than 15% of our bill. HOW CAN WHOLESALE GAS DOUBLING CAUSE OUR BILL TO DOUBLE WHEN IT IS LESS THAN 15% OF OUR BILL. ALSO, SDG&E brings in gas from Texas, where their sub's own the production and delivery. I smell remnants of the Enron debacle and ratepayers ALWAYS loose.

@@eggheadegghead California is a single party state. Because of democratic failed energy policies and shenanigans we now import over 60% of our oil from foreign countries, the only state to do so. So, yeah, we get what we voted for, or even worse. $50B covid unemployment fraud= not even investigated. $24B failed HSR project, now to cost $120B, and even that is BS. Long list of democratic failures in this state.
