INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 5-22-24 4:00 am approx
LOCATION: 1250 Rosecrans St
AREA/CITY: San Diego
DETAILS:
Police responded to a Burglary alarm at the West Marine store. They found an entrance glass door had been smashed, and they could see merchandise spread out on the floor.
They started to search the outside and found a male pretending to be asleep in a truck right outside of the entrance. They saw him moving, and when they approached, he had been watching videos on his phone but was pretending to be asleep.
When the officers got his attention, they asked him to step out of the truck, but he refused. When they finally got him out of the truck, he resisted and was arrested.
Officers made their way inside the store after hearing noises coming from within the building. After a long search of the very large business using Police K-9, no one was found inside.
A large amount of expensive Shimano Fishing reels were taken from their display cases, and the cash register was broken into. The loss is unknown at this time, but the fishing reels cost hundreds of dollars each.
The male who was arrested is being arrested for interfering with a criminal investigation and other charges. The security videos will show if this male is also the burglar.
West Marine is a chain store specializing in boating accessories & parts, related apparel & fishing supplies. The store has been broken into previously.

He was arrested because the suspects story sounded fishy!

Not the first time that store has been hit. The street parking next to the stores parking is usually a sleeping spot for homeless. I remember last summer a guy in a Nissan Xterra with a homemade sleeping trailer use to park there almost every night between 9-10pm.
