Appreciate your efforts and thank you for acknowledging different lines fare better with certain knots. I spent a year auditioning lines for the FG knot. Some were absolutely terrible. in conclusion I tie the Albright. Much more consistent

*Please test the Doubled San Diego Jam knot vs. Palomar, Doubled Uni, Doubled Pitzen, and the Doubled Clinch knots.* For some reason, no one has done this test, and these are the knots that people actually use (pro and enthusiast fisherman).

But if you double up on all others then shouldn’t he double up on palomar.

The double San Diego knot has proven it self one of if not the strongest knots you can tie.

This is exactly why i DONT fish the palomar knot! It doesnt break! When i did i would have a bait get stuck somewhere and 50% of the time when you broke it off your line snapped at a random weak spot on your line loosing you 10-100 foot of line. I fish almost all braid to floro and use a SD jam for the hook and a uni to uni on the connection and ive found it works a little better

Where do you want the break happen? The knot or the line? I’m still using improved clinch knot on bft…like me don’t break😘

Thanks for this it’s quite insightful. I’d love to see that same test using fluro, as I’ve had recent issues with the palomar on fluro leaders of several diameters & makes so I went to San Diego jam. Thanks so much!

Ive used the San Diego Jam my entire life. There is a reason tuna fishermen use it and not a Palomar. Both are great knots but I’ll stick with what i can tie in the dark from years of practice.
@matthill5066 Жыл бұрын
Im a tuna fisherman and the palomar never failed me. The palomar is also the easiest knot to tie. The only limitation is that it doesn’t do as well on line over 80lbs

Try this with heavier line, like 100. Of course crimps would be preferred around that point, but I believe the san diego jam becomes a better knot at thicker diameters. I'm curious if the san diego jam is better for 80lb.

I use a Springer knot for heavier line. Recommended by John Collins himself! kzbin.info/www/bejne/enXSnJh9edB0qpo

It's a pseudo science. The guy does great job, but it's 99% useless. Unless you use the same line and the same rings as your terminal tackle.

Great to know very interesting above 100! Can you test Palomar fishing leader vs other brands. They claim the thinnest diameter and affordable but the line maybe not as strong as they rate it. Thank you in advance.

@@scottlandb6579idk… they freaking swear by the sd jam knot here on the west coast and the long range fishing boats. I see the results here but other factors we’re not seeing at play or just improperly tied Palomar knots failing with 50-300 pound bluefin tuna. I grew up on the palomar but either by superstition or failing knots… I use the jam not exclusively for offshore and big game fishing. I’ve yet to have that knot fail or pull whereas the palomar fails somewhere during the 30 minute to 3 hour battle. This isn’t a freshwater knot but if you ever go offshore for big game it’s a good one to know. Use it or don’t I tie the palomar for everything else though. Is the best all around knot just don’t trust it to violent head shakes at high drag for long durations
@scottlandb6579Ай бұрын
@@IBreathFishinguse what you got confidence in. I’ll be truthful. I landed a 130 lbs yellow fin out of Guadalupe island using a palomar. But I do hear you, if you’ve seen or experienced palomars and double palomars slipping or breaking then I wouldn’t use them either. I’ve seen straightened hooks with palomars. But I’m not on ocean fishing boats everyday. So I can only speak to my one time experience. Either way if they’re doing it on the cattle boats and private yachts then they’d know better than me.
@ARCSTREAMS3 жыл бұрын
assuming these knots are making the line break and you got 30lb test line then should it not be breaking somewhere above 30? they usually have a higher breaking point than what there rated for ,anyways try this with a doubled sand diego

With all due respect. That's not how tests should be conducted. The experiment should be done multiple times to make sure it's fair and square. The results will never be the exact same every time then you calculate the average results for each. Thank you. One offs it's not a scientific way to claim a winner.

Does anybody ever do these type of tests hundreds upon thousands of times over to establish any sort of real data. It seems like we could easily put these knot strength questions to bed of somebody just took the time to eliminate all the variables.

So you tested each knot once? That's not even a test. At least do 10 times each knot, still not a lot of data but better than once. Also, none of these knot test videos have multiple testers. You might be better at trying one knot over another, the next guy might be better at tying the other knot. How about 10 different guys testing each knot 10 times? Then I'd give the video a thumbs up.
