Padres are SINKING! You can go out and spend a fortune signing the best players in the world & hope that the talent rises to the level of expectations. But the greater the talent, the greater the ego. All those egos in one room can create conflict. Even if they're all internalized. Internal conflict creates resentment. And all this talent created a bubble of immense pressure that's almost guaranteed to bust. This team is STACKED with top tier talent, no doubt. But beyond the big names, the roster looks pretty thin. Say what you want, but at the end of the day, you can't buy team chemistry. And personally, I think that's the most important ingredient in the entire championship recipe.

They most likely won't even make the playoffs. Padres should've been seller's at the trade deadline. Not buyer's. Just went and had a fire sale. Had they done so and traded away Tatis , Machado , Soto , Bogart's Snell and other's. Yeah they would suck for the next few years. But they are doing that now while spending $250 million. And they would've gotten like 10+ top 100 prospects for those guy's.

Gwynn was just one part of that '98 team, and I think when you look at both teams as being the sum of their parts, It's really hard to say that the boys in blue and orange were better.

They're engraved with acts and things done on the field. The '98 Padres made it. This team has not yet. Otherwise they'll just disappear into another could've been. And that's it.

I can remember games so badly played, by Padre teams yrs ago..and I would think "what in the Hell has to happen for ownership to realize they're sitting on a freaking goldmine if they would only reinvest in the team?"...John Moores wasn't a terrible owner, overall..but it was on his watch that he ignored and cheaped out on draft after draft after draft after draft, and NEVER allowed Kevin Towers to do anything significant at the trade deadline, after '98. His minor league system took DECADES to prop back up. He cheaped out on pursuing the Verlanders and the Trouts..and instead, gave 3 million bucks to a buffoon, named Matt Bush. Who, last I checked, got himself together after he nearly killed a man driving drunk and went to prison. You can literally name on ONE HAND, the prospects that came out of his minor league system, that really contributed to the big league team. ON ONE HAND, IN NEARLY 20 YRS OF OWNING THE TEAM. Geoff Moorad?...came into ownership with a bad rep..and left with a worse one. The only owner in the history of MLB that I can remember asking the MLB Commission, if it was ok to buy the f**king team from John Moores on a layaway plan!!!. So, I just wanna thank Mr Seidler, his group and his family, for bringing the Padres out of the dark, into the light. If only Mr Gwynn Sr, could see this. I can hear his laugh, right now.
