I appreciate your style and narration. I am ex-trini that left many years ago so I appreciate your updated videos. Another style I like on how you make your videos is that you don't have music. Yes, good old Pres, my old school, the old house where MacDavid used to live and teach is now clear. We used to exit the college on Carib street when Presentation Sea scouts marched to the promenade church to the beat of the scout band led by scout Master Br. Michael Luke, and troop Leader Andy Karim who also played the front drum along with Ricky Waldron and myself. The other exit was used to go to scout house on the wharf to scout house after classes on Friday evenings. Woolworth, was famous for soft ice cream cones and there was Dixie soft drink factory opposite sports and games store. A lot has changed!

@@JBsManCave No scout house, the government minister vowed there would be no paralysis of analysis some years ago, Politicians, politicians! Serpents have forked tongues, with one half they speak truth and the other with the other they lie.

@@JBsManCave At the wharf, where the water taxi was docked, was Presentation Sea Scouts scout house. Sea scouts learned, to swim, row boats, earned badges by learning to tie knots, swim to Farallón, have regattas, have band practice. These activities contributed a great deal to our all round development, building character and leadership skills. The government in introducing the water taxi service, took the scout house with the promise that it would be relocated, elsewhere along the coast as some part of a development scheme, in the near future. There was no relocation to date. Presentation Sea scouts, have now effectively become Presentation “land” scouts. The thing is, the water taxi depot could have been set up with no disruption a little further down the coast, along Lady Hailes Avenue, where you started to walk. If this was done, “the scout house” would have remained and a wonderful thing would have been preserved. We all should not stand in the way of progress, but does progress mean change for the worse? Or is progress for the politicians, who may have different agendas. I have noticed, that whenever a common sense practical solution is not followed, there is lurking behind motives, a hidden agenda. Hence the forked tongue analogy.
@JBsManCave2 жыл бұрын
Derek, I did not know that, thanks for bringing it up. What a shame. Scouting activities are hardly mentioned in the public forum anymore and from experience I can say they are so good for youth development.

@@JBsManCave Right that’s what I figured. My sister came two years ago and stayed at the Hyatt in Port Of Spain. My other sister came three years ago and stayed with a friend and also stayed in an Airbnb. I haven’t been back since 2012 unfortunately. It’s a shame but life. But I remembered when I lived there years ago San Fernando was so far away in our eyes. Most Northerners stayed and shopped in the North and the same for most Southerners. I wonder if that hasn’t changed. It’s seems like transportation especially the busses have improved a lot. Seems much more comfortable and enjoyable ride than those old big blue busses. We lived close to Arima.

Lovely video, it felt like being on a holiday. What was that gorgeous red building in the middle across the road from the blue building. It looked quite Georgian in it's architecture. Also I think your format of filming, no editing etc is spot on

Ecriptus, thank you kindly. I think you may have been looking at the library but if you put a timeline I can tell for sure. Have you been to San Fernando before?

No I haven't been before, I actually stumbled upon your vlog by accident as I was searching for Trinidad California 😂. At 6.19 the building could be seen.

Ecriptus, ah cool, did not know their was a "Trinidad" in California, but I am aware of the one in Colorado. I hope you will stay and continue to participate as I cover more than just the islands. As for the building: "The Carnegie Library was founded in 1916 and named after a Scottish born American philanthropist Anthony Carnegie who donated £2,500 to establish the library." -- nationaltrust.tt/location/carnegie-free-library/

Hi I live in Diego Martin but my grandmother lived in San Fernando and I spent many childhood holidays there. Please do a video next time walking down Harris Street from the Promenade side. She lived not too far from Ali's Doubles and obliquely opposite the Kallicharans home/mas camp (not sure if it still is). I would love to have a look at that street again and her house. Since she passed many years ago I have not been there, but I remembet always going to church at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, High Street and the Market and the bakery opposite the playground opposite Paradise Cemetary lol. Gosh I miss my Granma and my childhood days. I miss my years spent at San Fernando 😌

I appreciate the amount of walking you did, especially in the hot sun, with all the hilly areas. This was my secondary school environment, and haven't been back in many years. So thanks for the tour. The only place I didn't get to see was Cipero Street, and Rushworth Street where my school was located, at that time called San Fernando Government Secondary School, now called San Fernando Central Secondary School. Still, much appreciated!

Living abroad and watching your video of my old home town brings back that nostalgic feeling . your video is very detailed with those 360 turns, that you make so we get a better view.I was waiting patiently to see you make that right turn on Library corner than going back down. High St.To see the best view of san Fdo in my opinion to go up Haris promenade, and to see the most beautiful scene, The san F' do general hospital sitting on that hill ,where I worked for many years, before migrating . The city has changed a lot after 30 yrs. Many new buildings on High St .you must be tired doing all that walking up and down those hills. And the pavement where you can fall easily. You have to watch your every step Your video is great. Awesome .

I notice in these videos there ar not a lot of street lights are the streets very Dark at night can someone from San Fernando answer that for meit looks like it would be risky to be out at night.
@JBsManCave2 жыл бұрын
Tom, thanks for watching. What makes you want to visit Trinidad? As far as street lighting goes... there are street lights but I would not say they are very bright but if you are tourist I suggest not walking around at night. It would be better to have a taxi from the hotel you are staying drop you to specific night life locations and then pick you back up right after.

What a great video. I went to Sando Boys RC School, sang in the Catholic Church next to it in the school choir. Walked the train line many times as a school child from the wharf to Marabella. Went to all the cinemas especially Strand 10am shows. Went to San Fernando Technical Institute. Knew the paradise cemetery by tomb from passing through there. Swam from flat rock on the wharf to Marabella (3 guys) as a '"dare you challenge" . Played steel pan on Coffee Street. My point is that I know every area of Sando and a lot has changed as expected. The place looks beautiful and it was nice seeing it after so many many years. Thank You JB. ✌

Tony, you play the pan as well?
@tonyob24552 жыл бұрын
Long story. I hit a bass drum note with my clenched fist at 7 years old when my father took me to see Jouvert. Because of the love with the sound I started playing @ 14 when a neighbor brought a few pans in his yard; I arranged a tune one month into it. I played double second and single tenor with bands on Coffee Street during my teenage years in Trini. Migrated and travelled with a tenor pan and I also have the double tenors. I play them for relaxation but no longer professionally.
