Incredible footage. The first thing I noticed is we don’t drive much better now than we did then.

Thanks for this- my great-grandfather was an electrical engineer in San Francisco at this time and would have had to walk down Market Street daily on his commute to work. I love to think that one of the people in this video is him. My beloved grandmother was his oldest child, 8 years old at the time of the great quake. The entire family survived.

My grandparents were 13 and 15 year olds in SF when this occurred. My grandfather's large family was force to move to Oakland to reopen their "Denver Bakery" (bread). Brick buildings which were not "secured" to foundations caused buildings to collapse, then the fire took care of more buildings. Goldenrath and Rothenstein families.

I love watching the people and how they dressed in 1906. Wished people took care of themselves nowadays. I thought there was footage of the actual quake on KZbin somewhere. My great grandfather was in this quake but I didn't get a chance to hear much about it because he died when I was young.

I believe, if you do some background check on this film, The footage of before the quake was taken in April of 1906. It was filmed about a week prior to the quake. The film had to be sent to New York to be developed. The photographer sent it out the afternoon prior to the quake.

There was a "60-Minutes" spot about the pre-earthquake footage, and found that the sequence was filmed by the Miles Bros. Studio and the footage took place at early April 1906. The footage was processed, copied and sent eastbound by train just days before the quake.

The cable cars are just as iconic as the red double-decker buses in London. Unfortunately, London has become a sewer since I last visited, and S.F. had already gained that title.

@rob yohn It would be great if those disasters would get rid of the vermin of the population. The trouble is illness and disasters are not particular when it takes people from this earth. Sweet, good, productive people and heroes are taken also. That is the sad part.

What kind of weird earthquake brought down huge masonry structures, yet left the light rail tracks intact? And all the attires, everyone in tailor fit clothing with hats and canes. Was it really an earthquake or a demolition?

Wendy...Why do you and everyone that lives in S.F. always says "My" City? Quit bragging. I see comments like this on KZbin all the time. My City....pfffft. It smells like piss all over, homelessness is rampant, and the air smells like a sewer by the Bay. I live an hour away. I see it and smell it all the time.
@zzz116666 жыл бұрын
Jimmy....I agree. I live near there. They really do think their shit don't stink and they brag about a city that smells like a sewer and there's urine on every corner with bums sitting in it. LA is that way too, but it has much more beautiful areas like Rancho Palos Verdes, Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel...much more appealing than the Bay Area.
