I give him a lot of credit... he could have stayed in Georgia and lived an easy life. But he wanted to come back and be involved, and then agree to become the head guy. He put his reputation on the line. I think he has a lot of guts and I hope he really succeeds.

I kinda wonder if Larry Baer, Greg Johnson and possibly others on the ownership board pleaded with Posey to take on the position. We all know how brilliant he was as a catcher, but the people around know how smart he is and I'm sure they felt confident in his capability to take on a role like this. We shall see how it all works out.

He's doing what Jeter did, so there's definitely risk. If Posey can set the vision for the future of the Giants franchise and execute it to become a sustainable, postseason competitor, then more fans will come. They don't have to win it all every season, but Giants have to get in regularly to set high expectations for themselves and their fans.

It's very true. Buster is a beloved figure around the Bay Area, but we have no idea how good or bad of a front office presence he will become. I just hope he brings in good people around himself to aid his on the job education and decision making. I'm certainly pulling for him.😁

Farhan has kids. Kind of an insult to Farhan to say if Buster was to try and take on all of Farhan’s duties he would be an absent dad

I don't know why we think that we are in a good or even OK position. We have been a perennial .500 team WITH player min-maxing and milking every micro advantage. Without doing that with our current roster, which is DUE FOR REGRESSION, we could be looking at a repeat of 2017 or 2018 all over again. We don't have the vaunted talent in the Farm to trade up and so far, it remains to be seen if that Farm is going to prove the league wrong which I don't think is likely. In short, I think the Giants are adrift with no direction and no desire to take ANY pain to get us to where we want to be. Keep in mind that the Giants spent OVER the tax threshold and only kept the status quo. I don't see how we don't rebuild.

Why it will work: He was the smartest player on the field. That's not my opinion but rather what the players said. He has been a minority owner now for a couple years. I believe he is the perfect person to bridge day to day play with ownerships attitude and wishes. He has already had a seat at that table and can execute his decisions already knowing ownerships direction. Yes he will need a hand with the X's and O's so maybe they overpay for him to have a good assistant. This is very doable and I'm very optimistic.

Giants org isn't winning, and they're going in the wrong direction with many growing pains. As for Posey, his approach was different with what he saw and understood which's why he was so good. Don't underestimate that talent in the FO, because baseball's hard. You have to break down things, in parts, that happen in split seconds not noticeable to the naked eye, and it's why some players can't explain how they're succeeding when entitled media figures inappropriately ask what they're doing, so they can blab it to their opponents.
@michaelmartinez35002 ай бұрын
Don't project previous regimes failures on Posey. You're playing a psych game of defeating him before he's even started like the stare down before a boxing match. Btw, baseball's a game of failure, so it's BAKED IN, bro. Fans may disagree with his decisions, but they'll know Posey has WINNING in mind. Posey's not going in like it's a beer league softball game where everyone's inferior, and he's afraid to injure his teammates if he hits and throws too hard at them, because he'll learn, improve and may have fun with the business side of the game he loves.

The Giants will probably announce their GM the day after the Workd Series ends.

This is a job that he will have to delegate much of the work. He will have to have the right people under him. Any CEO has his people bring all the info and then makes his decision.
@jodi1832 ай бұрын
Posey is not the CEO. That's Larry Baer's job: President & Chief Executive Officer. Posey is President of Baseball Ops. That's a very different position. That aside, and to your point, yes Posey will be hiring a GM and probably appointing an Asst. GM. It sounds like the GM will have more of a traditional GM role--acting as the team rep in dealing with agents and players and the other day to day operations that go into a baseball org. I would imagine Larry Baer will play a large role as I believe he has done all along. Honestly, I won't be surprised if Posey excels at this position. He was a 3.9 GPA student in college and if I'm not mistaken was finishing up his degree post baseball. Posey might be one of those guys who just excels at everything he sets his mind to.

I don't doubt Posey's intelligence or desire to win in the slightest. I doubt Greg Johnson and how shortsighted this ownership group is. I mean that Greg Johnson was Zaidi's biggest cheerleader and was from what I heard the one who pushed Zaidi into the PoBO position. Ownership was so out of touch with baseball that they never even tried to read the fan base to see if Zaidi's would even fly with fans and according to a Zaidi interview where he found out how far apart he was from what fans wanted and left that presentation completely dejected.
