This video takes me back to what I really loved about living in the Hollywood hills around old Hollywood blvd, and how enjoyable San Francisco can be if you skate. I grew up in the Bay Area but San Francisco was always a fun little day for me that I would do once in a blue moon. Just hopping on BART with nothing besides my Skateboard and a backpack, going into the city and exploring it on my board. It's the best way to enjoy the city IMO. Haven't done it in years but this inspires me to take a trip out there with my board, even though the city has changed it is a very unique experience and one of the best places for getting around on a board. I was living in old Hollywood for a while and I remember how didn't even have a car for a while because I would just skate around everywhere. My family thought I was crazy and eventually pretty much made me buy a car but I barely drove because the traffic was terrible and there was hardly any parking to be found anywhere. I wasn't far from the main parts of Hollywood blvd and it was all downhill from the place I was renting at the time. Some of the roads were just crazy steep and you would be going straight down into crazy traffic so it would have been suicide, but there was no shortage of great streets that were manageable if you knew how to navigate the neighborhoods. I would skate everywhere I could and it quickly became my favorite thing to do, since everything was relatively close by it was a good way to get around and carrying around a skateboard is a lot easier than trying to manage a bike, plus you can really squeeze in and out of tight spaces with ease. I only did that for about a year or two but it was a totally unique experience and one that I really enjoyed. There is just something about the kind of freedom you can have on a board in that kind of environment and how fun it is to get around one. It's not something that everyone can understand, but I think this video really takes me back to what I loved about it.

It depends on what part of San Francisco you skate in now... it was awesome in the 90s, when certain spots were not skate stopped yet or demolished. I wasn’t brave enough to bomb hills Lol I mainly stuck to flat-ground and ledges. But today, San Francisco has been so gentrified to where a lot of places don’t look how they used to from what I remembered as a kid growing up in San Francisco. Embarcadero was awesome till that skate spot was demolished... same thing with the Hubba Hideout, destroyed. With EMB you can still skate there, but it’s not the same. At least for me that’s what I’ve experienced going there again as an older dude. I don’t think that city will ever get rid of the homelessness problem if anything it’s become worse. I personally feel that it was pointless tearing down EMB and the Hubba Hideout when they shut and tore those spots down, they took a piece of the city’s heart out, because I feel Skateboarding did nothing but help create progression with Skateboarding in San Francisco, especially in the 90’s🛹

My friends and I were 4th and 5th generation San Franciscans and we were skating the hills way before these guys mid 70's to early 80's. We would pay a nickel on muni and get a transfer and the bus would take us to the top of the hill and we would skate down for the length of the transfer. When the transfer would expired we would pay another nickel and go for another 2 hours. One area we would skate would be 10th ave from top of the hill in Forest Hill all the way down to golden gate park. We would take muni back up the hill and do it again. We did this all over the city.
