7:52 The Corpse Bombers: Eurasian aircraft, these things fly low over battlefields and airdrop loads of their main soldiers, Cyborgs who are forcefully converted citizens and refugees in new bodies forced to fight out of their control. They are literally dumped without parachutes to swarm their enemies like zombies. 7:56 + 14:31 Mother Courage. Eurasian robot droids, these very large female-looking androids come out only at night and search for cyborgs and corpses to recover bio-matter (flesh) and cybernetics. They are essentially resource collectors, recovering fallen cyborgs to bring back to feed to the Eurasian war machine, given the appearance of a female perhaps as a sign of comfort for any cyborgs who happen to get "rescued" by them. 10:00 The Cow Balloons: Basically, when a unit is given a task and completes it successfully, their AI commanders may send them a cow on a balloon drone as a method of delivering a source of fresh meat. This is basically the most utilitarian way to deliver food that an AI can conceive of. 11:40 "Friendly" T-90 Tank: This is one of my favorite mechanics I have to talk about. If you happen to come across a large enemy such as this, if you do have not attacked any of its forces and generally don't act threateningly, enemies may actually IGNORE you based on the fact you are not a threat. A mech with a railgun could stomp right up to you, look at you, and will determine that you are not a threat worthy of killing, and simply let you be as it carries on to take on more dangerous threats. After all, you are a simple Scav, not its enemy And this is part of the core to the game: "You are not this guy." You are not the soldier, you are not the main character. You are a scavenger in a war between soldiers who are not you. While you're in the game, enemy factions will actually fight their own battles, even if you don't see them. A MASSIVE battle could break out where patrols call for backup, tanks roll in, then their huge railgun-toting mechs have a final climactic duel to the death - and you could completely miss it as you're tucked away underground searching for water, completely unaware of what's happening above you, perhaps never even seeing it before you escape. THAT is one of the coolest parts of the game for me. The world goes on without you. After all, you're just a Scav trying to get by in the middle of this huge forever war.

Totally-not-Oceania Europa having Merkavas is...certainly a design choice (then again, they're in a defensive war against two other superpowers so "symbolism" perhaps?)

Old Man, Forever Winter is a game where you play as a Scav, a survivor really, trying to scrape by in a world literally torn to bits by WW3. You are an outsider, independent of the 3 superfactions left. You survive not by fighting, but by Scavenging. Your goal is to survive. No more, no less. The 3 AI/NPC groups will fight it out without you around. Loot the remains of their conflict for weapons, ammo, and other items. This game is a brutal, merciless dive into a war where everything is just wrong. In Forever Winter, war is not a concept. It's a LIFESTYLE. It's an ECOSYSTEM. And we the players are so infinitely lesser we aren't even the bottom of the food chain. We are parasites and vultures, feeding off carrion and the deaths of the armies fighting.

Welp, time for a lore-dump, sorry for the long post but the lore behind this game is super interesting, dark, and incredible to take in Basically, you're stuck in the ruins of the former megacity "Lost Angels", likely a renaming of the pre-war Los Angeles, where there is currently a war between two main sides, Europa (on the defense), Eurasia (on the Offense), and Euruska (Allied with Eurasia): - Europa (The Americas and West Europe) are the most recognizable and utilize a lot of more traditional/conventional equipment, drawing from a population who are able to opt into service to escape poverty, with no conscription. Because of their technological shortfalls compared to the other factions, they appear the most "human": their soldiers are akin to Vietnam soldiers with cyberpunk and apocalyptic themes, and are more recognizable due to technological shortfalls - but many of the soldiers make up for it in sheer brutality. Fun fact: The most iconic example of their brutality is the "Corpse Tank", a Merkava tank that they literally COVER IN HUMAN BODIES. This is supposedly to act as a layer of armor and camouflage it in the wasteland, but mostly for pure psychological terror. - Eurasia (Eastern Asia and parts of Eastern Europe) is far more technologically advanced but also extremely barbaric, as it takes its poorest citizens, prisoners, and refugees, and physically converts them into cyborg robots with no physical control, yet leaving their brains intact, and using them like mechanized zombies and soldiers. They are the most technologically advanced and struggle with overpopulation, and post-war are an advanced but unequal society with rampant corruption and oppression. Fun fact: The "Corpse Bombers" Cypher keeps referring to are the large glider-like aircraft that fly low over battlefields. They literally drop converted cyborgs from the air, and at night large "Mother Courage" robots will capture and tear off biomass and cybernetics off bodies for recycling for the war effort. Also, each cyborg is CONSCIOUS, so they feel everything from pain to panic as their bodies make them fight to the end. - Euruska sits in the middle of both, inhabiting mostly Eastern Europe and Africa as a whole. They aligned with Eurasia and are a mix where they have some more freedom but utilize a lot of technology, including with combinations of human bodies to make human-robot mechs. They also lean much more into techno-religions and practices, reflecting on slavic influences as a whole, and are a lot more utilitarian in their application of technology without the compelled cruelty of the Eurasians. They also are more creative in their designs, with dog-like robots and so on being created. Fun fact: The Euruskans are arguably the most friendly and closest to the "good guys" of the conflict, being far more open to respect for outsiders while Europans and Eurasians view all outsiders and those beneath them as inferior. In fact, the Euruskan task giver is supposedly the only one to treat you with respect or give kind words, while the other two treat you lesser than their lowest soldiers.
